“Not Too Many Big Stars in the UFC Right Now”- Khabib Nurmagomedov Explains Why a Season of the Ultimate Fighter Against Tony Ferguson Would Be Beneficial for the Promotion

For the better part of a decade, Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were two of the very best fighters in the UFC’s lightweight division. ‘El Cucuy’ put together one of the most impressive win streaks between October 2013 and June 2019. During that time, Ferguson left all his opponents in a bloody mess by the time he was done with them. ‘The Eagle’ on the other hand dominated his opponents from start to finish and seldom lost a round in the UFC, let alone a fight.

Given that they were a class apart from the rest of the fighters, it was only logical for the UFC to match Tony Ferguson against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately, the UFC booked a fight between the two men not once but five times and had to cancel the fight five times. Everything from injuries to a pandemic played came in the way of Tony Ferguson taking on Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Now that Nurmagomedov is retired and Ferguson is not the fighter he used to be, a fight in the UFC between the two is nearly impossible. However, ‘El Cucuy’ recently shared an idea that caught on pretty well with the fans. He suggested a season of The Ultimate Fighter with Ferguson and Nurmagomedov as the coaches.

Will we finally see Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov?

In a recent interview with Brett Okamoto, ‘The Eagle’ shared his thoughts on a season of The Ultimate Fighter with Ferguson. He said, “I like this idea honestly, I like this idea. We can do some stuff because right now its like, not too many big stars in the UFC right now. Even myself I am finished, Jon Jones is not there, Henry Cejudo not there, Daniel Cormier not there.”

‘The Eagle’ continued, “Of course, I don’t like this guy but he have big name, Conor not there, lotta people is not there. Adesanya, Volkanovski, of course Ngannou and my brother pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman, it is like only few people. If me and Tony we gonna be The Ultimate Fighter coach, I think they can create some good content.”
