Bradberry is a nice addition for the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that they’ve signed cornerback James Bradberry to a one-year, $10 million deal. Bradberry became a free agent last week when he was cut by the New York Giants as a cap casualty, as they needed enough cap space to sign their rookies and the cornerback carried a $20 million cap hit for the 2022 season.

By adding Bradberry, not only do the Eagles become better but they also can shove into a divisional rival’s face that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure – in this case, Bradberry was never trash, but he’s still going to be a treasure for Philadelphia.

$10 million isn’t the cheapest of all deals, but he’s going to play a huge part in this defense. He’s going to start as a CB2 who can once in a while travel with opposing number one receivers in case something happens with Darius Slay, the leader of the cornerback group who’s one of the biggest beneficiaries of Bradberry’s signing. Not many teams have as much quality in their starting cornerback duo as the Eagles.

Philadelphia is clearly building one of the best teams in the conference. Their offense got way better with the A.J. Brown trade, giving Jalen Hurts another prime weapon while he tries to cement his spot as the franchise quarterback. The defense got two fantastic additions in the form of Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean via draft and now can count on Bradberry to help the pass defense even more.

The only glaring hole on the roster remains at the safety position. The Eagles have Anthony Harris as a strong safety but it’s unclear who will play as the free safety. Rodney McLeod remains a free agent, and after they missed on Tyrann Mathieu, who went to the New Orleans Saints instead, there’s a clear hole there.

By signing Bradberry, the Eagles made clear their intentions of becoming a major competitor in the NFC. Let’s see if this roster can take the team to prime levels again or if there’s still work to be done in order to compete for a Super Bowl.
