“If Islam Doesn’t Get the Job Done….”- Daniel Cormier Scripts a Way for the UFC to Lure Khabib Nurmagomedov Back Into Action
In the sport of MMA, there have been very few fighters that have walked away from the sport on their own terms. In most cases, fighters tend to stick around a lot longer than they should and are forced out of the UFC on the back of multiple losses against young upcoming fighters. However, that was not the case with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
‘The Eagle’ ended his career after a dominant win over Justin Gaethje. ‘The Eagle’ stated that his mother did not want him to continue after the death of his father. Since his announcement, Dana White and the UFC have tried to lure him back to the sport multiple times without any success.
His teammate and friend Daniel Cormier in a recent episode of ‘DC&RC’ shared the most likely way to get Nurmagomedov back in the UFC. He said, “Man, it’ll be nice to see him (Oliveira) fight Khabib, right?. Many people have said that, ‘It’ll be nice to know, it’ll be nice to know.’ What better way to draw him back in than by having Oliveira beat his friend, training partner, and long-time friend.”
Cormier continued, “it’s another way to try to draw him in because obviously the money, Dana’s throwing so much money at Khabib to try to get him back, that hasn’t been enough. But what if defending his friend’s honor is enough, if Islam doesn’t get the job done.”
Is Daniel Cormier spot on in his assessment of the situation with Khabib Nurmagomedov?
‘The Eagle’ is the head of a very close-knit team of fighters and trainers. Most of the people in his circle are people he has grown up with. Nurmagomedov has in the past suggested that the outcome of the fight is something that Makhachev has to deal with irrespective of a loss or a win.

However, given how close they’re if Oliveira is able to secure an impressive dominant win over Makhachev, it will not be shocking to see Nurmagomedov come back to defend his protege’s honor.
