‘Michael Chandler Kicked You in the Face, Bro!’- Daniel Cormier Gets Candid on His Emerging Beef With UFC Lightweight Tony Ferguson

Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier addressed his ongoing feud with Tony Ferguson that has emerged out of the blue. The genesis of their beef can be traced back to Ferguson’s last appearance in the cage at UFC 247, where he went after Cormier post-fight, and harkened back to his controversial weight cut against Anthony Johnson where he was accused of cheating.

Ferguson’s comments were engineered to express that Charles Oliveira was robbed of his title, however, Cormier found the call-out rather odd. In fact, the former Olympian spoke out about Tony Ferguson’s recent distaste for him and associated it with his well-known friendship with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

What drives the beef between Tony Ferguson and Daniel Cormier?

According to ‘DC’, the fact that he is close friends with Tony Ferguson’s rival is reason enough to attack him constantly.

“What he’s talking about is ‘enjoy my retirement with Khabib [Nurmagomedov]. That is one of the biggest issues that I have had with Tony Ferguson. Literally my relationship with Khabib. I did an interview with him for my YouTube channel the other day and we’re talking off air and it was fine. We spoke about wrestling, our heroes, all these great things. The interview starts and he immediately brings up Khabib Nurmagomedov.”

“As we’re going forward in the interview, I ask him a follow-up question on that. I go, ‘Tony, do you think maybe you should live in the now? Not worry about Khabib? That’s a confrontation you never got to have.’ He threatened to walk off the interview and now he comes at me. Bro, what’re you worried about me for? Michael Chandler kicked you in the face, bro! Daniel Cormier is clearly not overly concerned about Tony Ferguson’s verbal jabs and he’s constantly reiterated confusion rather than anger. It’s evident that Cormier views Ferguson’s angst towards him purely out of an association with ‘The Eagle’.

Tony Ferguson has mentioned Nurmagomedov several times in recent interviews and he seemingly has unfinished business with the former lightweight champion. ‘The Eagle’ has been firm on his decision to stay retired and it will be an uphill battle to convince him to face Ferguson for a fifth booking.
