The sad ending of Earl Thomas
Earl Thomas was once one of the NFL’s biggest stars. A major factor in the famous Legion of Boom, the great Seattle Seahawks’ early 2010’s secondary, Thomas is a 5-time All-Pro and 7-time Pro Bowler as a free safety. His days of being labeled as ‘free’ might be over, though.
Thomas was issued an arrest warrant on April 27 with a third-degree felony for at least two violations within 12 months of a protective order from May 2021 that stated he could only communicate with the woman through a co-parenting phone app. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Thomas was arrested in February 2021 on a misdemeanor charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon. Thomas agreed to forfeit the weapon, according to the paper, and the case was dismissed a year later.
It’s just sad to see such a fantastic player with so many off-field issues. In his prime, Thomas was a star, and no team or quarterback wanted to throw the ball close to him. But he left Seattle under acrimonious circumstances after a fallout with the team regarding a contract dispute; nothing made his feeling towards the Seahawks’ organization than him leaving the field in a cart and giving the middle finger to the sideline.

Thomas then went to Baltimore to resume his career after signing a four-year, $55 million deal with the organization… which lasted a single season. He had a good year in 2019, but his 2020 never even started: he had an altercation with teammate Chuck Clark during practice and threw a punch at the safety; he was cut thereafter when a group of roster leaders told head coach John Harbaugh that ‘Thomas was a locker room cancer and they didn’t want to play with him.”

He never signed with another team after the incident. Recently, Thomas told ESPN reporter Adam Schefter that he was ready to return to the field during the 2022 season, but after the arrest warrant, it’s probable that no team will want to touch him, no matter how good he is.
The Earl Thomas story wasn't supposed to go this way. Breaks my heart.

What a sad ending to the history of one of the league’s best-ever safeties. Thomas is really good, but really problematic as well.
