“He Knows His Way Out and That Is to Quit”- Justin Gaethje Makes a Scathing Assessment of Charles Oliveira’s Will to Win
During his time in the UFC, Justin Gaethje has built a reputation for being involved in extremely entertaining fights. ‘The Highlight’ as he is appropriately nicknamed ensures violence every time he steps into the octagon, which makes him a heavy fan favorite. However, Gaethje has not been able to achieve his ultimate goal in the sport thus far and aims to fix that the coming weekend when he takes on Charles Oliveira for lightweight gold.
In a recent interview with Megan Olivi, Gaethje shared his thoughts on ‘Do Bronx’ and what separates the two men. He said, “Something about me I just say what I think. I was not being overly critical, I was not saying he is a bad champion, I was saying in the times that he has lost, he did not even get knocked out he quit sometimes. The choice to quit is something one makes and once you make it you can make it again because you know that is there.”
‘The Highlight’ continued, “I do not believe I ever made that choice…. I do not think you can be honest with yourself if you have because you can not fight again… I believe deep down, he knows his way out and that is to quit whenever he gets hit too many times too hard. All those assessments were of a younger man… he is a man now and with confidence. A man with confidence is a dangerous man. He is not the same man I was referencing… But deep down, once it happens once, it will happen again.”

Justin Gaethje to become a world champion at the second time of asking?
Thus far in his UFC career, Gaethje has competed for UFC gold only once. He was unsuccessful in his attempt to reach the summit as he was stopped by Khabib Nurmagomedov during their fight at UFC 254 following which he retired.
Gaethje has a tall task ahead of him in the form of Charles Oliveira, who has looked amazing in his last two fights. It will be interesting to see if the fight stays on the feet where Gaethje has the advantage or goes to the ground where Oliveira is superior by a mile.
