The 33-11 fighter has faced some tough tests in his career, including names like Ray Cooper III and Jon Fitch right until the time he retired. Moreover, Shields is well known for his association with Nick Diaz and his younger brother Nate Diaz, and their camaraderie spans back well over a decade.

“The amount of love that that guy gets is off the charts. When they introduced him during that fight too, the whole audience went crazy. He’s a very important part of the history of MMA and people don’t realize what a big part he is. You need to watch him in the Strikeforce days cause when he was Strikeforce champion, you watch the Frank Shamrock fight, you watch the Paul Daley fight.”

“Nick just went at him [Paul Daley] in that fight. Nick just swarmed him. Just the volume of strikes, you can see like that kind of fight is where he thrived… And he talks so much shi* to these guys.”
