“He Deserves It”-Alexander Volkanovski Shares His Take on Henry Cejudo’s Bid to Challenge for the Featherweight Title

Alexander Volkanovski is slowly cementing his place amongst the best to ever do it at 145-pounds in the UFC. ‘The Great’ defended his belt for the third time with a TKO win over ‘The Korean Zombie’ in a short notice replacement fight. After the win, Volkanovski has put forth a number of options and is undecided among them as to what he will do next.

Volkanovski stated that he might move up to lightweight since there is no clear contender at featherweight for him. However, former two-division world champion Henry Cejudo has re-entered the USADA testing pool in order to take a shot at a third title in the UFC, which would mean going up against Alexander Volkanovski. In a recent podcast, ‘The Great’ shared his thoughts on a potential fight against Cejudo.

He said, “He deserves it a lot cause he has done great things but I mean let’s be real, in the featherweight division, it’s a different story.”

The champion went on to give his thoughts on a potential third fight against Max Holloway as well, he said, “In our division that trilogy with Max is what everyone’s talking about, most people probably want, obviously in Australia would be great, so that’s why I would make that decision.”

What is next for the champion Alexander Volkanovski?

The options are seemingly limitless for the champion at this point in time. A third fight with Max Holloway makes sense, given the two were supposed to fight at UFC 273, which did not take place due to Holloway pulling out.

Alexander Volkanovski UFC 273

Australia recently hosted the Formula 1 race, which saw over 400,000 people attend the event. This means that the UFC can also put on live events, which is what the champion also wants. Also, Dana White has stated that Henry Cejudo will not get an immediate title shot after being away for two years therefore, in all likelihood, Volkanovski’s next fight will be against Holloway. And if things go well for the champion, it might just take place in his home country.
