‘I’ve Had a Problem with Wrestlers’- ‘Irate’ Jorge Masvidal Candidly Talks About His Loss to Rival Colby Covington at UFC 272

UFC welterweight star Jorge Masvidal spoke to Logan Paul and his crew on a recent episode of the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast. Masvidal is just over a month removed from his exhilarating grudge match against friend-turned-rival Colby Covington at UFC 272.

‘Chaos’ Covington ultimately did enough to secure the victory on the judges’ scorecards, and he truly put together a dominant performance. Masvidal had no answer for his wrestling as the fight went on and it was clear that Covington would secure the win by the end of the contest.

Covington’s dominance on the mat showed that despite having good scrambling abilities, Jorge Masvidal is still far off from where he needs to be.

Jorge Masvidal gets candid about UFC 272 loss to Colby Covington

In his recent podcast appearance, Jorge Masvidal revealed that he was ‘Irate’ with the way UFC 272 unfolded for him. ‘Gamebred’ candidly spoke about dealing with the fact that he lost to his arch-rival and also outlined a plan for his future.

“I was fu*king irate. I was upset, you know. I just like to be in isolation when I get like that. It’s just better for me. Take a couple days to figure it out. If I have a problem and I can’t figure it out then f*ck, it’s a real problem…Then I came up with a plan and I’m just going to execute that plan. Get right back to work in a different way.”

Masvidal recognized that he’s had a career-long deficit against highly credentialed wrestlers and is now working hard to correct the issue. His background as a stand-up technical fighter has led to certain wrestlers being able to take advantage and level-change on him.

“I’ve had a problem with wrestlers. It’s a couple times that I’ve had the problem, you know. The more stand-out wrestlers, I’ve had a problem with them… It’s the complete opposite of what I am. I’m a pretty damn good striker that has good speed, good timing… With wrestlers, when they’re able to keep pressing that hugging game, even when I do being it to a neutral, it’s like fu**, I spent a lot of extra power doing that.”

Masvidal is now 0-3 in his last three fights, albeit his losses have come to the very best fighters in the division, including Kamaru Usman. He will be keen to relive the high that came in 2019 and continue to elevate his profile as one of the biggest stars in the sport at the moment.
