Darren Till Names His Ideal Next Opponent for Khamzat Chimaev Before He Fights for UFC Welterweight Gold

UFC middleweight contender Darren Till has risen to prominence in recent weeks more so for his association with Khamzat Chimaev than his own activity in the cage. Till is one half of the ‘Smesh Bros’ duo comprising of himself and ‘Borz’. Chiefly, Till was seen at UFC 273 where Khamzat Chimaev came out on top in his battle against number two ranked Gilbert Burns.

Till spoke to the boys down under over at Submission Radio and chimed in on what should be next for his friend and training partner, Khamzat Chimaev. According to Till, Khamzat Chimaev would greatly benefit from facing Colby Covington next. Covington is arguably the second-best welterweight in the world and would be a marquee test for Chimaev before he fights for UFC gold against Kamaru Usman.

“I would like to see him fight Colby in a five-round main event. I think that’s the best thing for both guys. I think Khamzat can knock him out. I don’t think Colby has felt power like Khamzat’s. I’ve changed my opinion because Colby is a good fighter but I just don’t see who is fighting him. Like who is at the top of the level obviously like Usman. Khamzat has obviously come up.”

Is Khamzat Chimaev’s power the difference-maker?

Moreover, it’s clear that Darren Till believes Chimaev’s power will be the ultimate decider in his fight against Colby Covington. Covington is known for his granite chin and it’s certainly going to be tested against the undefeated Swedish-Russian phenom.

“I think Khamzat’s got so much power. Obviously terrific fighter but I see the win there with Khamzat and I’d love to see that to get him ready for the title with Usman.”

Colby Covington’s biggest ace is his relentless forward pressure and cardio. Despite his often trolled statement of saying he has ‘two lungs’ and hence is the cardio king, it’s undeniable that Covington will push Chimaev into deep waters as no one has before.

Gilbert Burns put forth a strong litmus test for Chimaev’s abilities and ‘Chaos’ Covington would be the ultimate hurdle for ‘Borz’ to overcome in his battle for UFC supremacy.
