Does Henry Cejudo Deserve an Immediate Title Shot Against Alexander Volkanovski?- Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager Has the Answer

Dominance MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz spoke to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi in a recent sitdown and provided status updates on several fighters under his management. Ali Abdelaziz is perhaps most famous for managing Khabib Nurmagomedov and has also overseen negotiations for nearly half the UFC roster, including fighters like Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.

Another marquee fighter under his wing is the former two-division champion Henry Cejudo. ‘Triple C’ recently announced that he was back in the USADA testing pool and was aiming to make an emphatic comeback to the UFC. This news was met with both speculation and intrigue as Cejudo has been retired since UFC 249 back in May 2020.

Cejudo wants a chance to win the featherweight belt from Alexander Volkanovski and become the first three-division champion in UFC history. However, ‘Volk’ has gone on record saying that Cejudo is going to have to prove himself to be worthy before fighting for a belt. Famed manager Ali Abdelaziz took exception to Volkanovski’s statements and aimed to set the record straight.

Ali Abdelaziz has something to say to Alex Volkanovski

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager directly addressed Volkanovski’s statements and reminded him of Cejudo’s accomplishments in combat sports. According to Abdelaziz, ‘Triple C’ is more than deserving because of ‘champ-champ’ status as well as his ability to sell a fight.

Cejudo is extremely vocal on social media and has managed to remain in the headlines often despite being a retired fighter.

“Henry Cejudo is two-division champion, Olympic gold medalist. You said, he need to prove himself in the division? It makes no sense. It’s a much bigger fight, you and Henry vs you and Max. Henry’s been in the media more than 95% of the fighters in the last two years.”

“How’re you gonna say he needs to prove himself. He’s a two-division champion… At the end of the day, Henry thinks he can beat you [Volkanovski].”

It remains to be seen if the UFC gives the green light to square off Cejudo and Volkanovski once ‘Triple C’ is cleared by USADA. However, given everything that will be on the line, the fight itself is likely to be a memorable one.
