Gilbert Burns became a fan-favorite, household name after his impressive performance at UFC 273. ‘Durinho’ showed the world that his number two ranking was justified when he valiantly fought Khamzat Chimaev and lost a close decision on the cards.

Despite the loss, his stock in the eyes of fans and the promotion has certainly not fallen down. In fact, Burns’ overall star power and appeal has increased by a large margin and fans can’t wait to see him lace up the gloves once more and put on an absolute clinic.

Speaking to TMZ, Gilbert Burns reflected on his fight against Khamzat Chimaev and passionately relived the memories of their combat exchange. While recounting the fight, Burns also made sure to reaffirm the fact that he wanted to rematch Khamzat Chimaev in short order. Given the way the first fight went, no one would complain to see both men lace up the gloves once more.

“It [the fight] was genuine. There was a lot of heart, a lot of intensity. It was intimacy, I don’t want to take nothing away from that. I think the judges do whatever they have to do. I just think we’re not done. With me and Khamzat, we have to see each other again. Someone gotta go down next time. Someone gotta go get a finish next time.”

Chiefly, the UFC brass has hinted toward the possibility that the winner of Burns vs Chimaev would face off against Colby Covington in a number one contender’s match. Burns recognized that Chimaev would likely face Covington next, however, he doubled down on wanting to fight ‘Borz’ in an electrifying rematch.

 

“They said the winner is fighting Colby. I think that’s the fight the UFC wants to make but I want to see this guy soon…Definitely, I want to see Khamzat again.”

Regardless of who he fights next, Gilbert Burns has successfully managed to elevate his stock as an elite-level talent. At the age of 35, he has solidified his position as a marquee draw who will go out to the middle of the cage and scrap against anyone.
