UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev proved to the world that he’s worthy of the hype bestowed upon his name as he defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. While the win didn’t come easily by any stretch of the imagination, Chimaev showed that he can weather even the toughest of storms in order to secure the win.

Khamzat Chimaev talks about facing Gilbert Burns at UFC 273

Chimaev spoke to Joe Rogan in the cage in the immediate aftermath of his fight with Gilbert Burns. He toughed upon Burns’ legendary toughness and grit and attributed his heart to his Brazilian roots. Moreover, he emphasized the fact that he was determined to reach the very top through his intense training regime.

“He’s a fuc*ing tough guy brother. I didn’t know he was so tough but the guy come up with Brazil heart you know. I know Brazilians, many guys my brother. My big brother here, he from day one with me. He’s from Brazil, he helped me for the fight.”

“Thank you for this fight Gilbert. I love you brother, all respect. But just I do my work to make money. I didn’t know he was strong in the beginning… I had to work hard for fuc*ing everything. I never stopped my training for no injuried.”

Khamzat Chimaev also candidly talked about how Burns had successfully managed to bloody him up and inflict pain. Chiefly, this is significant since no other fighter has even tested Chimaev, let alone have him in any compromising position.

“I had 10 fights, 10 finishes. Didn’t happen these things with me. Now I’m bloodied, tired. I feel a little pain. I love this sh*t.”

The future looks bright for Chimaev as he’ll likely be the next man in line to fight for the undisputed welterweight championship. Given the grit he’s displayed in this context, he would have certainly earned the respect of the fans and fighters alike.
