Watch as Khamzat Chimaev Tests Petr Yan’s Wrestling Defense Ahead of UFC 273: ‘He Is Ready’

UFC 273 is just days away and with the press conference now wrapped up, fans are more excited than ever to see the marquee stars face off. In particular, two names on the card that have stood out all week has been Petr Yan and Khamzat Chimaev.

The aforementioned fighters have a massive Russian fanbase behind them and they are keen to take over their respective divisions. Both men are at the very top of the division and they are being tested against the very best that the division has to offer.

Petr Yan is looking to avenge his disqualification loss to Aljamain Sterling whilst recapturing his belt while Khamzat Chimaev is on the verge of becoming one of the most dominant ‘prospect-turned-contenders’ that the UFC has ever seen. He goes up against Gilbert Burns in what will be a showdown that could define his career.

Khamzat Chimaev has a test for Petr Yan

It’s not uncommon for fighters to run into each other at the fighter hotel during fight week and this is precisely what happened to Yan and Chimaev. Both men crossed paths and embraced and it was here that Chimaev decided to test Yan to see if he was prepared for Aljamain Sterling’s wrestling.

‘Borz’ Chimaev was quick to go in for a single leg takedown to test Yan’s takedown defense. ‘No Mercy’ Yan proved to be ready in more ways than one and Khamzat Chimaev lauded Petr Yan’s preparation for his title fight saying that he was ready.

Petr Yan will most certainly have to be ready with a comprehensive wrestling defense arsenal as he goes up against ‘The Funkmaster’. Sterling is adept at testing grappling positions and mounting unorthodox submissions at the very first opportunity he gets. In fact, he is one of the few fighters in the sport of MMA to successfully secure a suloev stretch submission.

With a solid base in wrestling defense, Yan will be prepared to press forward with his own form of cerebral striking on the feet.
