“Usman Almost Handicapped”- Khamzat Chimaev Sends a Notice to Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya With an Ambitious Two-Weight Takeover Plan

Khamzat Chimaev returns to action in a highly-anticipated fight against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. ‘Borz’ has never faced anyone inside the top 10 in his career, let alone anyone in the top 5 in the UFC. That all changes as he takes on ‘Durinho’ who is number two in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.

Chimaev, who made his debut in the UFC in 2020, has taken the promotion by storm and has quickly established himself as one of the biggest names in the UFC. During his short stint in the company so far, Chimaev has competed at welterweight as well as middleweight.

In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, he sent a message to the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman as well as the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. He said, “Usman almost handicapped, brother. His knees doesn’t work, his back hurts, his arm hurts, operation everywhere. The guy is too old, and he’s too slow. They wanna find a way to make money and go away from my way. Israel, I think he will fight me. I don’t think the guy is scared. That guy is gonna fight with me, and I will fight the guy, as well.”

‘Borz’ continued, “But this is not my level, that guy. He gives his back to this guy (Whittaker) who never did wrestling in UFC, never took somebody down. I can take that belt today. Just send me location where is Usman, where is Israel. I’m gonna go and smash them both. I don’t know what the UFC is gonna do. I’m ready. I said it from my first fight: I come here to take my belt. I’m still saying that after my fights.”

Khamzat Chimaev aims to follow the footsteps of Conor McGregor, Henry Cejudo, Amanda Nunes and Daniel Cormier

Being a simultaneous two-division world champion in the UFC is a feat that only four fighters have accomplished. Chimaev is confident that he can be the fifth, although he does have the talent to do so he has to get through Burns, which in itself will be a very difficult task, and then follow that up with a title win over Kamaru Usman.

Needless to say, Chiamev has a lot of factors on his side in order to be able to get this done. It will be interesting to see how high Chimaev’s ceiling in the UFC is and if he is indeed able to become the fifth two-division world champion in the UFC.
