The Soldier Field remains the worst stadium in the NFL Posted on February 17, 2022 by Henrique Bulio The NFL is a multi-billionaire league and this is evident everywhere. From the contracts to the TV deals to the stadiums, we all know how much money there is and how much the league earns on a yearly basis. But while teams like the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Las Vegas Raiders are living in the luxury of new stadiums, the NFL also has some old venues that don’t really fit the mold of the modern league. They’re outdated, difficult to enjoy and they’re a problem even for broadcasting purposes. The NFL has a clear answer for the worst stadium in the league: the Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears. The Soldier Field opened in 1924, and the Bears moved there in 1971 after five decades inside the Wrigley Field. They’ve played all their seasons there except for 2002, when the stadium went through inside renovations – but these renovations were later dubbed as a ‘joke’. Because there are three ski jumpers from Illinois, I am obligated to repost photos of when Ski Jumps were held at Soldier Field pic.twitter.com/keuQCcsAV0 — Blake Schuster (@Schustee) February 12, 2022 The problem with the Soldier Field is exactly the lack of renovations. The stadium has a legendary feel because of everything that happened there: the Bears are one of the NFL’s oldest franchises, but the stadium feels more like a museum than a real stadium. Everyone criticizes its structure because it’s true: the Soldier Field is old and bad. History and location are a good thing for lots of stadiums. But the modern NFL demands more from its teams, especially considering how much money the owners earn every year. The Bears are already looking for solutions in Arlington Heights, but until it actually materializes, the Soldier Field will remain active. And it will keep its place as the worst stadium in the NFL.
