James Harden-Ben Simmons deal likely ahead of trade deadline

With the NBA trade deadline 5 days away, the 76ers are expected to aim to sign James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets.

According to sources, the team has been in talks for a trade for wantaway star Ben Simmons.

Philadelphia could possibly include Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle in a potential deal to get their man. It is believed that a deal struck for the franchise could help them pursue a championship. The 76ers have been impressive this season, but a significant contributor is Joel Embiid. The MVP frontrunner has been in fine form this season, averaging 29 PPG.

Meanwhile, the Nets signed Harden in a blockbuster trade in January 2021. The combination with Durant and Irving promised win a title for the franchise. In the 16 games all three have played together, Brooklyn is 13-3. Their availability together has been a major concern, but the dream could now be over.

Simmons, on the other hand, has been away from court and refused to play. His attitude is seen to be problematic with few players and staff. Doc River, coach of the Sixers even suspended the Australian for a game in 2021.

For both teams involved, the trade could be beneficial for both teams. The problem lies in the contractual issues, which needs to be sorted out prior to the deadline. Harden was named to his 10th consecutive All-Star team this week, despite a poor season offensively  Simmons has yet to play this season after requesting a trade in the offseason and then informing the team in October that he is not mentally ready to play.

It will be a vital few days for both teams involved as they try to make a deal happen in the final days. Nets‘ who are in 6th position in the East will look to find the right balance ahead of the last 30 games. With Durant back in March and Irving firing in away games, the team could well be on their way to the Playoffs. The dilemma is the current 7-match losing streak, in the absence of big stars.

The 21-22 NBA season is surely hotting up and will be an exciting watch in the next few months.
