Tari Eason eases LSU past McNeese State

Tari Eason tallied 19 points and 14 rebounds and LSU rolled past McNeese State 85-46 in a nonconference game Thursday night in Baton Rouge, La.

Darius Days also had a double-double for LSU, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Gaines scored 10 off the bench.

The Tigers (4-0), who had outscored their previous opponents 150-73 in the second half, dominated the Cowboys (1-3) in the first half, using 19-0 and 9-0 runs to take a 27-point lead.

Christian Shumate had 12 points and 15 rebounds off the bench to lead McNeese, which rolled past Champion Christian 116-66 in its home opener Monday but suffered its third lopsided road loss of the young season.

LSU increased its lead to 30 points less than four minutes into the second half and led by as many as 42.

The Tigers made sure early on that they wouldn’t have to make another second-half comeback.

Xavier Pinson scored five points and Efton Reid added four as LSU opened a 15-5 lead.

Shumate’s layup started a 5-0 run for the Cowboys, but then they went cold.

The Tigers went on a 19-0 run as McNeese went scoreless for more than six minutes. Eason scored seven and Gaines added five during the run.

T.J. Moss ended the drought by making a 3-pointer and Harwin Francois added another 3-pointer as the Cowboys trimmed the deficit to 34-16, but they didn’t score during the final 2:30.

Days scored five points during a 9-0 run that gave the Tigers a 43-16 halftime lead.

McNeese made just 6 of 31 field goals, including 3 of 17 3-pointers, and 1 of 7 free throws in the half. They had 15 turnovers and LSU had nine steals.
