Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who declined vaccine with Cubs, tests positive for COVID-19.

Manager Aaron Boone said Rizzo, who turned 32 on Sunday, is experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus and has been placed on the COVID-19 injured list.

He is the fourth Yankees player to test positive this week, joining catcher Gary Sanchez and starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery.

As it turns out, after now testing positive for COVID, the NY Yankees’ Anthony Rizzo, who has refused to get the vaccine, might have inadvertently used his platform for good after all – an example of how selflessness and bad judgment can endanger both you and those around you.

Rizzo joined the Yankees at the July 29 trade deadline from the Chicago Cubs. He is batting .281 with three homers and six RBIs in nine games with New York.

A cancer survivor, Rizzo said earlier this summer that he wanted to see more data before deciding whether to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Rizzo is a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner with a lifetime .269 average, 246 home runs and 799 RBIs in 1,366 games with the San Diego Padres (2011), Cubs (2012-21) and Yankees.

The Yankees activated first basesman Luke Voit from the injured list on Sunday to replace Rizzo in the lineup for the series finale with the visiting Seattle Mariners.

Voit, 30, has been out since July 11 with left knee inflammation. The 2020 MLB home run leader is hitting .241 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 29 games this season.
