Can the Magical Luka Doncic Ride Dallas Mavericks to History?
Even though Luka’s last name is Doncic but what he has been doing on the floor is just pure magic. Luka Doncic has been straight up embarrassing the Los Angeles Clippers and that too in their home court, TWICE.
I don’t remember the last time I saw a team take a 2-0 lead on the other team’s home turf. And as far as I remember, the last time that happened, it ended up in a clean 4 game early sweep.
And that is exactly what Luka and the Mavericks are aiming for in this series. Doncic is averaging 35 PPG while shooting 51% from the field. Those are just staggering numbers.
Luka started the series strong with 31 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, recording a triple-double in the very first game against the Clippers. Talk about setting the tone. He then followed that performance with a 39 point performance and might I add, he is now shooting three’s off just one leg. Yes, you read that right, one-legged 3pointers-:
And if you aren’t staggered away by his performances so far, let me remind you that he is just 22 years old right now and is already leading the team in points and assists along with being the team’s leader and a true floor general as well.
Luka’s game is tremendous and his basketball IQ along with his finesse definitely puts him in the category of players like his predecessor, Dirk Nowitzki.
Luka Doncic may not have been considered for the NBA MVP this season but if he keeps up the way he is playing in the playoffs, he will definitely end up winning finals MVP if the Mavericks win it all.
The Clippers were a stacked team with 2 time NBA champion and 2 times defensive player of the year Kawhi Leonard along with Paul George. Clippers even made some big free agency signings earlier and in recent times as well. The Clippers got DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo recently from the free agency. The Clippers signed Patrick Beverly to a huge deal, got Serge Ibaka and Marcus Morris to the team with huge contracts and the whole team is still being balled out by a 22-year-old Slovenian kid.
Not trying to take anything away from Luka, just trying to add some more richness into Luka’s greatness as a player, teammate, and leader.
Mark Cuban must be smiling somewhere with how he lucked out by drafting Luka Doncic and how he has become the cornerstone of this franchise at such an early age. Luka ended the regular season with an average of 27.7 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 8.6 APG. And to think of it, Luka was drafted not number 1 but 3rd overall after DeAndre Ayton and Marvin Bagley.
Luka has been absolutely spectacular and does things on the floor one can’t even imagine. No wonder he is called Luka Magic by fans and commentators across the world. The Clippers have lost two games on their home court and will now have to face Luka and the Mavericks on their turf which gives them a sizeable home-court advantage. And I hate to say this, but the way Luka has been playing, I don’t see the Clippers coming back from this one.
The Los Angeles Clippers will play the Dallas Mavericks On Saturday, May 29, 7:30 am IST.
