He was picked as a second baseman for the fifth-round draft by the Minnesota Twins in 1983.

3. Besides playing baseball, Trout also played basketball at the Millville Senior High School, in which he was also quite good. While he was a junior at Millville High School, he pitched a no-hitter on the way to the state playoffs, which showed how good a player he was at a very young age.
