49ers Trey Lance Trade Potential: Which Are The Teams Wanting To Trade Him In?

49ers Trey Lance Trade Potential: Which Are The Teams Wanting To Trade Him In?

According to a source who spoke with ESPN on Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers have determined that Sam Darnold will replace Brock Purdy as their backup quarterback this season, and they will continue to look at all of their alternatives for Trey Lance.

However, Lance has struggled to remain on the field throughout his time in San Francisco, sustaining a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 of the 2022 season. The 49ers traded numerous draft selections in 2021 to move up and choose Lance with the No. 3 pick.

Ironically, the Dolphins may be one of the clubs looking to trade for Lance now that he seems finished in San Francisco.

Because former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is now the Dolphins’ head coach and Tua Tagovailoa has reliability difficulties, CBS Sports named Miami as one of three prospective trade partners for Lance.

The 49ers must make a decision with Lance since it appears like Purdy will replace them as their starting quarterback going forward. The North Dakota State product, 23, was a top dual-threat prospect and enthralled fantasy managers in redraft and dynasty formats with his passing and running skills.

Given his youth, Lance may be able to restart and revitalize his career in another area. Let’s investigate where, from a fantasy standpoint, he fits best.

The Vikings are behind door number 2, and their 35-year-old ageing quarterback Kirk Cousins is entering the last year of his deal.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Vikings and 49ers discussed a potential trade for Lance during the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year.

Although Taylor Heinicke will serve as Desmond Ridder’s backup in 2023, Atlanta is a place where Lance may excel. If Ridder performs poorly, Lance may provide a backup option for the offense if the Falcons want to trade for him.

Arthur Smith is known to be a fan of both the rushing game and mobile quarterbacks. Being among outstanding young offensive playmakers like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts would give Lance an opportunity to have an effect.

And then there are the Rams, who are led by a 35-year-old quarterback in the huddle by the name of Matthew Stafford.

Even though hindsight is 20/20, the 49ers were duped into signing Lance and will now have to sell him at a loss.

As the penultimate pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy, last year’s Mr. Irrelevant, gave San Francisco some consolation that they seemed to have hit gold with.
