49ers Christian McCaffrey Explains: Trade Comments Weren’t Made To Shade Panthers

When the dust settled after Christian McCaffrey’s relocation from Charlotte to San Francisco, he had come to the conclusion that it had only been beneficial for him.

In fact, it was the “best thing that ever happened” to him. McCaffrey took a time on Friday to explain his remarks when he became aware of how it could appear to the supporters of the team that sold him away.

49ers Christian McCaffrey Explains: Trade Comments Weren’t Made To Shade Panthers

Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers seems to be having a good time with his new club, but he is careful not to show it.

The talented running back, whose deal with San Francisco runs through 2025, was dealt from the Carolina Panthers to the 49ers in October.

McCaffrey said something that shattered the Panthers’ heart when the news of his trade first surfaced: “I firmly believe it’s the best thing that ever happened to me.” And it was in a lot of ways.

“I was thrown to the fire pretty quickly,” McCaffrey said during an appearance on Good Morning Football of his arrival to the 49ers. “I think early on in practice when I was in the huddle with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Kyle Juszczyk and all these guys, I felt like I was on a Pro Bowl roster. It hit me that this was a special team.”

“I was very fortunate to come into a team that built a culture and had taken time to build a culture. To add on top of the roster, in my opinion, some of the best coaches in the NFL and guys who know how to use players like myself and have been doing it for so long. I just felt very fortunate to be a part of something that was already so developed so to say and like I said a culture that was established.

“I do want to make it clear that was nothing against Carolina when I said that. I have no bad blood and I love everybody there. I still keep in touch with a lot of my teammates there and a lot of the coaches who I had the privilege of playing for there.”

After joining the 49ers, the 26-year-old running back was exceptional, scoring 10 touchdowns in 11 games. In addition, he gained over 1,200 all-purpose yards (746 from running and 464 from receiving).

San Francisco advanced to the NFC Championship Game with his assistance before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I say this with the utmost respect, this is a family,” McCaffrey explained. “The word I would use now is, just very proud to be a part of this organization.”
