3 quarterback options for the Saints in the 2022 draft

The New Orleans Saints have traded up with the Philadelphia Eagles and will now pick twice on the first night of the 2022 NFL Draft, in a blockbuster trade that shook up the league.

With the huge need for a quarterback, the Saints might be looking to add a player with one of these picks, depending on how the run for the position goes. There’s not a consensus first quarterback, so there are plenty of options to avail.

Check out three quarterbacks the Saints might draft in 2022:

1 – Malik Willis, Liberty

Willis has the strongest arm in the draft and seems to be the prospect with the highest upside, even though he’s not as pro-ready as Kenny Pickett, who should go earlier than him.

Willis finished with 47 passing touchdowns and 27 scores rushing the football over the last two years. A former Auburn player, he has improved a lot as a starter at Liberty and, even though he’s a raw prospect, he’s got enough tools to merit a first-day selection.

2 – Matt Corral, Ole Miss

When you take a look at Corral, you instantly get concerned about his physique and whether he’s going to be able to sustain NFL hits or not. Still, he’s also a player that has improved a lot over the last few years, with just five interceptions in 2021. His rushing ability is a plus, but again – does he have enough in his body to sustain the NFL hits?

Corral has some impressive throws on tape, his arm is good enough to make it in the NFL and he can process the game quickly. There are some old concerns about his maturity outside of his safe home with Lane Kiffin, so this is something to monitor.

3 – Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati

I don’t really think Ridder is good enough for the league, but this is not a scouting report, so let’s get on with it. He’s a smart quarterback who can escape the pocket and can throw some pretty deep balls, but his accuracy is all over the place.

Ridder has been getting some buzz to be drafted mid-first round and the Saints now have two first-round picks. They might take a shot with Ridder if he’s there, depending on how the run for quarterbacks shapes up.
