3 landing spots for Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo‘s time with the San Francisco 49ers seems to be over after the loss in the NFC Championship Game. The 49ers will be moving on with Trey Lance under center after they traded three 1st-round picks to move up in the draft to acquire him, and Lance spent a year on the sidelines learning the game – now it’s time to play.

With Garoppolo’s time in California being over, we can now look ahead to the teams where he might play in 2022.

Check out three landing spots for Jimmy Garoppolo in the 2022 season:

1. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts trading for another quarterback? Yes, that’s more than possible. Clearly, Indianapolis isn’t interested in keeping Carson Wentz for another year – the franchise was non-commital for him in 2022 and they’re now listening to trade offers for him. You don’t do that to a quarterback you’re comfortable with.

Garoppolo would be a great guy to lead this Colts team back into the playoffs. He’s a considerable upgrade over Wentz and, while he’s not elite, he’d execute Frank Reich’s offense with much more efficiency than Wentz did this year. It wouldn’t take much to take him away from San Francisco and Indianapolis has enough cap space to acquire him.

2. Washington Commanders

Ron Rivera’s time in Washington has been marred by deficiencies in the quarterback room. They signed Ryan Fitzpatrick last offseason, but he wasn’t able to stay healthy and Taylor Heinicke didn’t do enough to justify their hope in him as a franchise quarterback.

Garoppolo would be a great guy to give Rivera hope as he wants to make Washington a competitor in the NFC East again – they won the division in 2020, Rivera’s first year with the organization. They have a lot of defensive starts, but it doesn’t matter if your offense can’t score points.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

There has been speculation for some time now that the Raiders would’ve been open to part ways with Derek Carr if the right trade opportunity presents itself, and if they choose to do so, then Garoppolo would be a great answer to the open starting quarterback spot.

Garoppolo was drafted by the New England Patriots, where Josh McDaniels spent almost an entire decade as the offensive coordinator. McDaniels is the new Raiders’ head coach and he knows all of Garoppolo’s deficiencies and strengths, and would tailor his offense to help his old friend. If Carr leaves, the cap space would also be enough to get Jimmy.
