3 biggest MVP candidates for the 2022 season
With the season approaching, the race for players’ awards starts to heat up. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) is the biggest award of the season, and usually is won by a quarterback as they’re the most important players of the game – the last time a non-quarterback won the MVP award was running back Adrian Peterson in 2022.
There’s a mix of previous winners and newcomers in the favorites for the MVP award, but they all have something in common: none was drafted sooner than 2017 and they all play in the AFC, which adds some spice for the playoffs.
Check out the three favorites for the MVP award in 2022:
#1 – Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Allen isn’t the best quarterback in the league, but he has the best odds to win the award as the season begins. It’s understandable: he plays in an easy division when compared to most of the other contenders, has a fantastic offense around him and he should lead his team to another division title. He checks all the boxes to grab the award.
I’ve honestly avoided these types of things for a while now. It’s stale.
I will say the grand irony IMO is saying that Lamar’s style of play isn’t sustainable long term. Josh Allen truck sticks people. Tom Brady is 248 years old. Burrow was sacked 10371 times. Watson torn 2 ACL https://t.co/kAiyDfSmuU

#2 – Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Mahomes already won the award in his first season as a starter, and while he’s the best quarterback in the league, the number of changes in the Chiefs’ offense take him out of the top spot, at least for now as he settles into a new offense without his previous best friend Tyreek Hill. The fact that Andy Reid remains his head coach will give him a helping hand to win the award – and maybe the Super Bowl – again.
As an MVP winner & Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes has been many folks' best QB in the NFL for a few years now. Despite that status, a recent list from ESPN ranking the league's best signal-callers has Mahomes landing behind someone else. 👀⬇️https://t.co/KwPY4chbn7

#3 – Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
The newcomer on this list, Herbert enters his third season in the NFL already as a top-5 quarterback and elite talent, even if the Chargers didn’t exactly help him to reach the playoffs for the first time. There’s nothing that he can’t do: he has elite arm talent, read the defenses very well and has enough mobility to keep the plays alive when out of the pocket. It’s just a matter of time before he gets compared to Allen and Mahomes as the top quarterback in the league.
