2023 MLB Spring Training Schedule: Dates & Reporting
Even though the MLB offseason is already underway, the regular season, which starts either at the end of March or on April 1, is still a few weeks away. Teams aim to get in condition during this time, and exhibition games are commonly referred to as “spring training” by fans.
Florida and Arizona are the two states where Spring Training is held. Teams from the East and West coasts typically travel to Florida and Arizona, respectively, to train. The Grapefruit League and Cactus League, named after the two most popular fruits in each state, are the only leagues in which teams can compete against other teams who train in their own state.

In order to provide teams the balance they need going into the regular season, clubs get to play against minor league teams, college teams, intra-league games, or even split-squad games during Spring Training. The players are often called in the middle of February, and the games begin two weeks later.
Positional players are typically invited to the training camp a few days after pitchers and catchers, on average. Within a few days of the first game, the entire team will begin reporting. Positional players can report on February 20 while pitchers and catchers are often called up by February 15. Depending on the team and the rosters’ availability, different dates apply.

However, because of the World Baseball Classic this year, pitchers and catchers will be able to report as early as February 13, while position players would be able to report by February 16.
