Onyeka Okongwu NEWS
  • Onyeka Okongwu Returns To Bench Wednesday

Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu will come off the bench Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. Fellow center Clint Capela (Achilles) is returning from a one-game absence which caused Okongwu to move back to his reserve role. Okongwu should have a 20-minute role off the bench, but his fantasy value is directly tied to Capela's health moving forward. Capela should have rest days and Okongwu would be on the streaming and DFS radar whenever Capela sits.

  • Onyeka Okongwu Questionable Wednesday

Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) is listed as questionable to play Wednesday against the New York Knicks. Okongwu is experiencing some soreness in his left shoulder and is danger of missing his first game of the season. Okongwu has carved out a decent role off the bench with an average of just under 20 minutes per game. If Okongwu were to sit, Clint Capela will likely see an increase in minutes with the starters while Frank Kaminsky and Jalen Johnson could see a small increase off the bench.

  • Hawks Exercise Option For Onyeka Okongwu

Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu had his fourth-year option picked up by the team on Tuesday. The 21-year-old big man registered 8.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks while playing 20.7 minutes per game last season. His averages increased to 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game in his six games as a starter. Okongwu is likely to still come off the bench this season, but he'll receive enough minutes to be considered in fantasy leagues. He's already established himself on the boards and on defense, which has led to his increase in minutes from his rookie season to last season. Look for him to be a good contributor for both rebounds and blocks.
