  Hunter Brown To Debut Monday Against Rangers

  Houston Astros pitching prospect Hunter Brown will make his major league debut and start against the Texas Rangers on Monday. Brown, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land last Thursday when rosters expanded. The 24-year-old right-hander went 9-4 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 134 strikeouts and 45 walks in 106 innings over 23 appearances (14 starts) at Sugar Land this year before his call-up. It's unclear if he'll stick in the starting rotation down the stretch, but he'll have to throw more strikes to be successful at the major league level. Brown has plenty of velocity on his fastball, but his most devastating offering is a power curveball that drops off the table.

  Hunter Brown Expected To Be Called Up In September

  The Houston Astros intend to call up right-hander Hunter Brown when rosters expand on September 1. Brown is ranked as Houston's top prospect by MLB Pipeline and is the site's No. 71 overall prospect. The 24-year-old hurler has plus fastball velocity and also brings an elite curveball and quality slider to the table. The Astros appear to be planning to use Brown as a late-inning weapon out of the bullpen in the final stretch of the season if he acclimates well to the big leagues. Brown posted a 9-4 record, 2.55 ERA, and 134 strikeouts over 106 innings of work at Triple-A in 2022.
