Spencer Steer Headed To The Big Leagues
The Cincinnati Reds will recall shortstop prospect Spencer Steer when rosters expand on Thursday, according to sources. Steer was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in the deadline deal that sent right-hander Tyler Mahle to the Twins last month. He has 27 hits (three homers and seven doubles) in 23 games since joining Triple-A Louisville. The Reds' No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, hit .242/.345/.485 with an .830 OPS, 12 home runs, 32 RBI, 39 runs scored and two stolen bases with Triple-A St. Paul before being traded. There's a good chance that the 24-year-old will take over starting duties at the 6 from Jose Barrero to close out the season for the rebuilding Reds, but he won't have much time to do damage in deeper fantasy leagues.
