  Brett Baty Cleared For Baseball Activities

  New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) has been cleared for baseball activities and has been hitting flips. He's scheduled to progress to hitting off a machine soon, and this Thursday marks five weeks since his right thumb surgery to fix a torn UCL. The 22-year-old will not be able to make it back for the final three games of the regular season, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to rejoin the team for their postseason run. He had played in just 11 major-league games before his injury, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. Veteran Eduardo Escobar has been manning the hot corner for the Mets with Baty injured, but Baty could be a nice power option for the Mets in the playoffs if he can avoid any setbacks.

  Brett Baty To Have Surgery On Torn UCL In Thumb

  New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is dealing with a UCL tear in his right thumb and will undergo surgery on Thursday that will likely end most, if not all, of the rest of his 2022 season. It's a tough break for the Mets and the 22-year-old after he was recently called up to the big leagues for the first time. He struggled at the plate in his first 11 games, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts. Baty was the team's No. 2 prospect this year, per MLB Pipeline, and he has a bright future ahead of him in Queens. Eduardo Escobar should see the majority of playing time at the hot corner for the Mets with Baty out of the picture, at least until Luis Guillorme returns from a left groin strain.

  Brett Baty Starting On The Bench Against Dodgers

  New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Baty also missed Tuesday's contest with a thumb injury. Fantasy managers should consider the 22-year-old day-to-day for now. The left-handed slugger has gotten off to a slow start in his first 11 major league contests, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two homers, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts, but he'll continue to be relevant in deep mixed leagues the rest of the way, as long as he continues to play regularly. Eduardo Escobar is starting at the hot corner and batting eighth against Dodgers left-hander Tyler Anderson. Escobar will be a deep DFS sleeper. He's hitting .242 (31-for-128) with six of his 12 home runs this year against lefties.

  Brett Baty Unavailable Tuesday With Minor Thumb Injury

  New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) was unavailable to pinch hit in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers due to a minor thumb injury he sustained over the weekend, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The injury also explains his absence from the starting lineup, but it sounds as though he is merely day-to-day. The 22-year-old prospect has gotten off to a slow start since his call-up, slashing .184/.244/.342 with two home runs and five RBI in 42 plate appearances. He may not offer a ton of fantasy value right now in redraft leagues, but he is still worth plenty of attention down the stretch for fantasy managers in dynasty leagues.
