Scott Effross Needs Tommy John Surgery
New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Effross (elbow) was left off the roster for the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians this week because he had an elbow issue. It's been determined that he will need to undergo Tommy John surgery. It's a major loss for the Yankees bullpen, especially since they'll also be without Aroldis Chapman due to disciplinary reasons. Effross will likely miss all of next season as well. The 28-year-old right-hander was a linchpin of the Yankees bullpen during the regular season. He had a 2.13 ERA (3.43 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, three saves and 12 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings for the Yankees this year after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs.

The New York Yankees reinstated right-handed reliever Scott Effross (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Thursday. Effross should return to a high-leverage role near the back of the Yankees bullpen over the final few weeks of the regular season. The 28-year-old has a 3.24 ERA (3.47 FIP), a 1.08 WHIP, one save and eight strikeouts in just 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Yankees since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a deadline-deal trade. Clay Holmes should continue to see most of the team's save chances over the final several weeks of the regular season, leaving Effross little fantasy value outside of much deeper formats.

The New York Yankees are aiming to activate right-hander Scott Effross (shoulder) from the injured list on Wednesday. He threw 20 pitches in live batting practice on Sept. 16 in Milwaukee, and the session went well. Effross will now join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a minor league rehab start. He was initially placed on the injured list on Aug. 22 with what manager Aaron Boone described at the time as a small right shoulder strain. The 28-year-old right-hander will give the Yankees bullpen a boost to close out the regular season. Before his shoulder strain, Effross had a 3.24 ERA (3.47 WHIP), a 1.08 WHIP, one save and eight strikeouts in only 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Yankees.
