  Angels Won't Trade Shohei Ohtani This Winter

  Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that the team isn't trading two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani this winter. There has been plenty of speculation that the Angels will need to trade Ohtani before he's eligible to hit the open market after the 2023 season. But it's a complicated matter, especially with owner Arte Moreno planning to eventually sell the team. It looks like Ohtani will start next season with the Angels, but if they fall out of contention again, Ohtani will be the most coveted trade piece in baseball before the deadline. If not for Aaron Judge's record-setting season with the Yankees in 2022, it's likely that Ohtani would have won his second American League MVP. He hit .273 with 34 homers, 95 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 157 games while also going 15-9 on the mound with a career-low 2.33 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP and a career-high 219 K's over 28 starts.

Navigating a trade for such a superstar could be difficult in terms of asking price, as Ohtani slashed .273/.356/.519 with 34 home runs, 95 RBI, and 11 stolen bases while also going 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate in 28 starts in 2022. Even if he plays with the subpar Angels in 2023, Ohtani will be a top-tier fantasy player in all leagues.

His sentiment is warranted, as the Angels endured a seventh consecutive losing season and missed the playoffs for an eighth consecutive season. Ohtani himself was a fantasy stud once again, compiling a 15-9 record with a 2.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate in 28 starts while also posting a .273/.356/.519 slash line with 34 home runs, 95 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. Ohtani has one year left on his contract with the Angels, and they will clearly need to add more support besides himself and outfielder Mike Trout if they hope to be more competitive in 2023.

  Shohei Ohtani Not Starting Thursday

  Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Texas Rangers. It looks to be just a normal day of rest for the 28-year-old two-way superstar. In 16 games this month, Ohtani has gone 16-for-61 (.262) with four home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored. He's scheduled to start on the mound against the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Mike Trout will serve as the DH and bat second on Thursday, while Magneuris Sierra gets the start in center field and hits ninth in the batting order. Sierra will be a DFS option to avoid in the nine-hole for the Halos. Trout, well, is usually in a lot of starting lineups each and every day.
