Angels Won't Trade Shohei Ohtani This Winter

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that the team isn't trading two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani this winter. There has been plenty of speculation that the Angels will need to trade Ohtani before he's eligible to hit the open market after the 2023 season. But it's a complicated matter, especially with owner Arte Moreno planning to eventually sell the team. It looks like Ohtani will start next season with the Angels, but if they fall out of contention again, Ohtani will be the most coveted trade piece in baseball before the deadline. If not for Aaron Judge's record-setting season with the Yankees in 2022, it's likely that Ohtani would have won his second American League MVP. He hit .273 with 34 homers, 95 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 157 games while also going 15-9 on the mound with a career-low 2.33 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP and a career-high 219 K's over 28 starts.

Angels Not Currently Listening To Shohei Ohtani Trade Offers

The Los Angeles Angels are not currently entertaining trade offers for their starting pitcher/designated hitter star Shohei Ohtani, per SNY's Andy Martino. The 28-year-old will be in the final year of his contract in 2023, so it is conceivable that the team could try to trade him if they do not reach a contract extension. Navigating a trade for such a superstar could be difficult in terms of asking price, as Ohtani slashed .273/.356/.519 with 34 home runs, 95 RBI, and 11 stolen bases while also going 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate in 28 starts in 2022. Even if he plays with the subpar Angels in 2023, Ohtani will be a top-tier fantasy player in all leagues.

Shohei Ohtani Critical Of Team's Season Performance

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani said Tuesday that he was pleased with his personal success in 2022 but had, "a rather negative impression of this season," from a team perspective, per AP News' Koji Ueda. His sentiment is warranted, as the Angels endured a seventh consecutive losing season and missed the playoffs for an eighth consecutive season. Ohtani himself was a fantasy stud once again, compiling a 15-9 record with a 2.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate in 28 starts while also posting a .273/.356/.519 slash line with 34 home runs, 95 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. Ohtani has one year left on his contract with the Angels, and they will clearly need to add more support besides himself and outfielder Mike Trout if they hope to be more competitive in 2023.

    Shohei Ohtani Not Starting Thursday

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Texas Rangers. It looks to be just a normal day of rest for the 28-year-old two-way superstar. In 16 games this month, Ohtani has gone 16-for-61 (.262) with four home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored. He's scheduled to start on the mound against the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Mike Trout will serve as the DH and bat second on Thursday, while Magneuris Sierra gets the start in center field and hits ninth in the batting order. Sierra will be a DFS option to avoid in the nine-hole for the Halos. Trout, well, is usually in a lot of starting lineups each and every day.

Shohei Ohtani Returns To Lineup Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (illness) is back in his designated hitter role and is batting third in the order on Tuesday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Ohtani was pulled from his start on the mound early on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers due to a stomach bug, but he'll return to the lineup Tuesday. The 28-year-old Japanese two-way star will make his next scheduled start on the mound on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Fantasy managers will want to get Ohtani back into their lineups as a hitter on Tuesday. He's hitting .264/.357/.515 with an .872 OPS, 27 home runs, 72 RBI, 67 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 435 at-bats entering Tuesday's contest.

Shohei Ohtani To Make Next Start On Saturday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani (illness) will make his next start on the mound on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, as originally scheduled. Mike Mayers will make the start on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Ohtani was removed early from his start on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers due to a stomach virus, and he's not in the starting lineup as the designated hitter on Monday against the Rays. Fantasy managers should consider the must-start fantasy asset as day-to-day for now, but the Angles clearly expect him to be fine by next weekend. The 28-year-old two-way Japanese star has gone 10-8 on the mound this year with a 2.83 ERA (2.68 FIP), a 1.09 WHIP and a 167:32 K:BB in 121 innings over 21 starts. Fantasy managers will want to get him back into their lineups as soon as he returns for the Angels.

    Shohei Ohtani Not Playing Monday

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (illness) is not in the starting lineup on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Ohtani left his start early on the mound against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday due to a stomach virus, and he's not feeling well enough on Monday to start the series opener as the DH against the Rays. Fantasy managers should consider the Japanese two-way star as day-to-day until further notice. The 28-year-old is a must-start fantasy asset and is hitting .265/.357/.516 with an .873 OPS, 27 home runs, 72 RBI, 67 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 434 at-bats in 2022. Mike Trout will DH and hit second on Monday, while Magneuris Sierra will start in center field and bat ninth against Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs.

Shohei Ohtani Removed Early On Sunday

Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (illness) was unable to get through his scheduled start on Sunday. The right-hander went four innings, allowing three runs, and striking out two batters before getting lifted in the fifth inning. The 28-year-old superstar is reportedly dealing with a stomach illness. This shouldn't be something that forces Ohtani to miss more than a day or two of action. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more information following this contest.
