Adbert Alzolay Goes Two Innings In Saturday's Rehab Start
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Adbert Alzolay (lat) went two innings in his minor league rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, and he allowed one run on one hit while walking two and striking out six. Alzolay has been out all year due to a right shoulder lat, but he appears to be getting closer to making his 2022 debut for the Cubbies. The 27-year-old went 5-13 last year with a 4.58 ERA (4.65 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP and a 128:34 K:BB in 125 2/3 innings over 29 appearances (21 starts) in Chicago. Alzolay won't return to the big leagues until at least September, and he's unlikely to have much fantasy appeal if the Cubs insert him into their rotation.

Chicago Cubs right-hander Adbert Alzolay (shoulder) started his minor league rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Monday and allowed one run while striking out four in three innings pitched. Alzolay has yet to pitch for the Cubs this year after beginning the regular season on the injured list with a strained right lat, but he's getting closer to making his 2022 season debut. The 27-year-old will surely have at least a couple more rehab outings before he becomes a realistic option to join Chicago's starting rotation for the stretch run. In 125 2/3 innings for the Cubbies in 2021, Alzolay went 5-13 with a 4.58 ERA (4.65 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP and a 128:34 K:BB in 29 appearances (21 starts).
