  • Julio Rodriguez Named AL Rookie Of The Year

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez was named the 2022 Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year on Monday. Rodriguez won the award over Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan. The 21-year-old J-Rod led all rookies in 2022 in home runs (28), wins above replacement (6.0), OPS (.854), wRC+ (146) and total bases (260). He led AL rookies in slugging percentage at .509 and ranked second among all rookies in RBI (75), runs scored (84) and stolen bases (25). Rodriguez finished third in hits with 145. He joined Mike Trout as the only players in AL/NL history with at least 25 homers, 25 steals and an .800 OPS in their rookie season. He's the fifth player in M's history to win the award and the eighth Dominican-born player to claim the honor.

  • Julio Rodriguez Sitting In Game 1

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Rodriguez returned from the injured list on Monday and didn't miss a beat, going 3-for-4 with a double in the loss to Detroit. The M's will give him a little rest, but the 21-year-old All-Star could return to the nightcap. With J-Rod sitting out in Game 1, Jarred Kelenic is getting the start in center field and is batting sixth against Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Kelenic does have three home runs and five RBI in 11 games since rejoining the Mariners on Sept. 22, but he's also hitting just .200 (8-for-40) with 11 strikeouts.

  • Julio Rodriguez Activated And Starting Monday

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) was activated from the injured list and is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff on Monday against the Detroit Tigers and right-hander Bryan Garcia. The Mariners will ease Rodriguez back into action with just three regular season games left before the postseason. The 21-year-old has been as advertised in his first major-league season, slashing an impressive .280/.342/.502 with an .844 OPS, 27 home runs, 73 RBI, 81 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 500 at-bats. Seattle will be hoping that he can pick up where he left off as the club gets ready for a postseason appearance in 2022 later this week. In 16 games last month before his injury, J-Rod was hitting .383 (23-for-60) with six homers, eight RBI, 14 runs scored and two stolen bases.

  • Julio Rodriguez To Resume Baseball Activities Thursday

Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said that rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) will begin baseball activities on Thursday and is aiming to return from the injured list when he's eligible next Monday. The Mariners took the conservative approach by putting him on the injured list to make sure his back gets right, and Rodriguez has reported feeling better every day. The 21-year-old should be able to play in the last couple games of the regular season before a potential playoff run. He's been great in his first MLB season, slashing .280/.342/.502 with an .844 OPS, 27 home runs, 73 RBI, 81 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 500 at-bats, but unfortunately fantasy managers won't get much from him the rest of this season.

  • Julio Rodriguez Will Be Ready When His 10 Days Are Up

Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said that rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) will be ready to go when his 10 days are up on the injured list. Rodriguez is first eligible to return from the injured list on Oct. 3, so fantasy managers should expect him back then. The 21-year-old All-Star landed on the IL last Friday with a lower back strain. Although he won't have much time to make a fantasy impact when he returns, at least he'll be available for the final series of the regular season against the Detroit Tigers for any fantasy managers that play through the end of the season. J-Rod has become a superstar in his first MLB season, hitting .280/.342/.502 with an .844 OPS, 27 home runs, 73 RBI, 81 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 500 at-bats.

  • Julio Rodriguez Officially Placed On Injured List

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) has been placed on the 15-day injured list. The 21-year-old slugger is dealing with a lower back strain, so hopefully he won't need additional time on the sideline. He underwent an MRI on Friday, so apparently the team saw something they didn't like during the testing. Rodriguez will be eligible to return for the final series of the regular season, assuming he's ready to go. In the meantime, Taylor Trammell has been recalled from the minors. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much from his bat.

  • Julio Rodriguez Likely Heading To Injured List

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) is likely heading to the injured list after he left the game early on Thursday with more lower back tightness. Rodriguez was headed for an MRI exam Friday after he missed three games last weekend with the same issue. Manager Scott Servais said Thursday night that he was concerned about the 21-year-old All-Star's injury, and there's now a chance we won't see the impressive youngster until the playoffs, if Seattle makes it. He has been a must-start in fantasy all year, so this is a big blow for fantasy managers down the stretch. With J-Rod out for the next two weeks, Jarred Kelenic and Sam Haggerty should see more playing time in Seattle's outfield.

  • Julio Rodriguez To Undergo MRI

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) will undergo an MRI exam on Friday, according to manager Scott Servais. The 21-year-old outfielder missed the entire weekend series due to a lingering back issue. The team is injured about his back, so they will have additional testing done on Rodriguez. Hopefully, Rodriguez won't need to be placed on the injured list. Fantasy managers should have more information later in the day on Friday.

  • Mariners Concerned About Julio Rodriguez's Injury

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) will undergo an MRI exam on Friday in Kansas City, according to manager Scott Servais, who called the injury "concerning." Rodriguez didn't go for imaging tests when he first experienced lower back tightness and missed three games last weekend. The 21-year-old left the game in the first inning on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics with more back tightness, so fantasy managers can probably expect him to be out on Friday against the Royals. We'll all just be hoping that he can return before the end of the regular season. J-Rod has lived up to the hype in his first MLB season, slashing .279/.341/.499 with an .840 OPS, 27 homers, 73 RBI, 80 runs and 25 stolen bases in 499 at-bats. Look for more updates on Rodriguez on Friday.

  • Julio Rodriguez Leaves Early With Lower Back Tightness

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) left the game early on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics with lower back tightness in the first inning. It's not a good sign for the 21-year-old All-Star, as he also missed three games over the weekend with the same issue. Seattle will be hoping to have Rodriguez for a possible postseason run, so it's unlikely that they'll rush him back for the end of the regular season. Consider him day-to-day for now. J-Rod has been worth the hype in his first big-league season, entering the day Thursday hitting .279/.341/.499 with an .840 OPS, 27 home runs, 73 RBI, 80 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 499 at-bats. If he misses extended time, Jarred Kelenic, Dylan Moore and Sam Haggerty will fight for playing time in Seattle's outfield.

  • Julio Rodriguez Back In Seattle's Lineup Tuesday

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) is back in center field and is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics and left-hander JP Sears. The Mariners were optimistic that the 21-year-old All-Star would avoid the injured list, and they were right. He will return to the lineup on Monday after taking 30 to 35 swings off a tee on Sunday. Fantasy managers will want to get the outfield phenom back into their starting lineups right away. He's been extremely impressive this month before his back injury, going 20-for-51 (.392) with six long balls, eight RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases in only 13 games.

  • Julio Rodriguez Remains Out Monday

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Los Angeles Angels. According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, Rodriguez took 30 to 35 swings off a tee on Sunday and is "feeling better," according to manager Scott Servais. There is no timetable for Rodriguez's return, but an injured list stint is unlikely. The 21-year-old All-Star remains day-to-day for now, but hopefully he'll return soon for fantasy managers. Monday will be Rodriguez's third straight missed game. Dylan Moore will get the start in center field and will hit fifth against Angels left-hander Jose Suarez, while shortstop J.P. Crawford will serve as the team's leadoff hitter for the third straight game.

  • Julio Rodriguez Sitting Out Again On Sunday

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) is sitting out on Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Angels. Rodriguez was a late scratch before Saturday's contest with lower back tightness and it appears he's still dealing with that issue. The Mariners, who are on the cusp of snapping a 21-year- playoff drought, are going to be extremely cautious with their budding superstar and will keep him out another game. Dylan Moore is starting in center field in his place. J-Rod could return to the lineup for the series finale on Monday.

  • Julio Rodriguez Scratched With Back Tightness

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (back) was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels due to lower-back tightness. The severity of his injury is unknown, and the 21-year-old is considered day-to-day. Taylor Trammell replaced Rodriguez in center field and is batting eighth in Saturday's contest. Fantasy managers should remove Rodriguez from their lineups immediately. Trammell is 0-for-13 over seven games in September and is not a recommended streaming option for Saturday's slate. Rodriguez will undergo further evaluation, and more information about his injury should be known after the game. Stay tuned.

  • Julio Rodriguez Receives 12 Guaranteed Years

Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez agreed to a long-term contract extension with the team on Friday that includes 12 guaranteed years through the 2034 season and options that could run through the 2039 season. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on Friday that Rodriguez's deal had a baseline of eight years for $120 million and a maximum value of $470 million. The 21-year-old All-Star has been worth the hype and then some in his first MLB season, hitting .267/.326/.467 with 20 home runs, 64 RBI, 64 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in his first 424 at-bats. He'll have to perform at an MVP-type level for multiple seasons in order to hit the maximum value of his contract, but Seattle fans have to be ecstatic that they've locked up one of the best young stars in the game.

  • Mariners, Julio Rodriguez Finalizing Monster Extension

The Seattle Mariners and rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez are finalizing a deal on Friday that is expected to guarantee him more than $200 million with the possibility of earning as much as $450 million-plus, according to a source. ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting Rodriguez will make $210 million guaranteed over 14 years with the ability to grow to well over $400 million. The deal includes player and team options. J-Rod is the real deal, as he's hitting .269/.328/.471 with 20 home runs, 64 RBI, 64 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in his first 420 major league at-bats. The 21-year-old superstar will be the face of the franchise for the next decade, and he should be one of the highest-ceiling fantasy players as well as he moves into his prime.
