Cubs Sign Nick Neidert To Minor-League Deal
The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent right-hander Nick Neidert to a minor-league deal last Friday, according to a source. The 26-year-old was recently non-tendered by the Miami Marlins. His deal includes opt-outs on June 1 and July 1. It's unclear if Neidert will be ready for spring training after undergoing surgery on his knee in September. He made just one start for the Fish in 2022, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking none and striking out three in five innings in a loss to the New York Mets on July 30. In 13 major-league appearances (eight starts) in three seasons with Miami, he has a 4.59 ERA (5.45 FIP), a 1.45 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched. He'll serve as starting and relief depth for the Cubbies in 2023.
