Ty France Agrees To One-Year, $4.1 Million Deal

The Seattle Mariners agreed to a one-year, $4.1 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration with first baseman Ty France. The 28-year-old has found a home in Seattle and has had a really nice last couple of seasons. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2022 and finished with a .274/.338/.436 slash line, .774 OPS, career-high 20 home runs, career-high 83 RBI and 65 runs scored in 613 plate appearances over 140 games played. France isn't elite by any means, but he's not a bad consolation prize at the first base position and resides in a Mariners lineup that is dangerous. He has produced a .283 average, .795 OPS, 38 home runs and 157 RBI in his last two seasons with the M's.

Ty France Returns To The Lineup Tuesday

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is back at first base and is hitting second on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres and right-hander Yu Darvish. France didn't start the series finale on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves due to a left wrist injury, but he's back in there after the off day on Monday. The first-time All-Star has been great in 2022 with 18 home runs, 71 RBI and 52 runs scored in 469 at-bats, but he's slowed down of late and has gone just 8-for-40 (.200) with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and six strikeouts in 10 games so far in the month of September. The 28-year-old is returning to a tough matchup versus Darvish as well.

Ty France Not Starting But Available Off Bench

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is not starting in Sunday's series finale against the Atlanta Braves. France's left wrist, which nagged him back in August, has been bothering him on swings, per beat writer Corey Brock. The M's plan to sit him on Sunday but keep him available as a pinch-hitter. Seattle also has a day off on Monday so between missing Sunday's contest and having the extra day of rest on Monday, the 2022 All-Star should be good to go for the start of Tuesday's series vs. the Padres.

    Ty France Suffers Calf Bruise

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (calf) left Thursday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early with a right calf bruise. France went hitless in his only at-bat of the game before being replaced by Jake Lamb at the cold corner. Check back for more information on the severity of his injury, but for now, fantasy managers should consider the All-Star first baseman as day-to-day. If he's forced to miss time, Lamb, Carlos Santana and Dylan Moore are all options to fill in at first base. The 28-year-old made his first All-Star team in 2022, but he's hitting just .129 (9-for-70) with a home run, 10 RBI, five runs scored and 13 strikeouts in 17 games in the month of August.
