Cubs, Ian Happ Avoid Salary Arbitration
The Chicago Cubs agreed to a one-year, $10.85 million deal with outfielder Ian Happ on Friday to avoid salary arbitration. Happ is in the final year of arbitration and will be eligible to become a free agent after the 2023 season. The 28-year-old was a first-time All-Star in 2022 in his sixth season with the Cubbies, and he hit .271/.342/.440 with a .781 OPS, 17 home runs, a career-high 72 RBI, career-high 72 runs scored and a career-high-tying nine stolen bases in 641 plate appearances and 158 games played. Happ should remain a solid source of power and on-base percentage as a starting outfielder for Chicago yet again in 2023. RotoBaller has him ranked just inside the top-50 fantasy outfield options.
