Mitch Garver Avoids Arbitration
The Texas Rangers and catcher Mitch Garver avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million deal on Friday. Garver had a down year in his first year with the Rangers in 2022, hitting just .207/.298/.404 with a .702 OPS, 10 home runs, 24 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base in 54 games. The 31-year-old backstop had season-ending surgery on his right forearm in July. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to return to the 31-homer mark he set in 2019 with the Minnesota Twins, but a bounce-back could be in the cards in 2023 if he can stay fully healthy. Still, fantasy managers should only consider him as a backup catcher for the time being. Garver is expected to split time with Jonah Heim in his second year with the team.
