Aaron Judge Inks Nine-Year Deal With Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free agent superstar outfielder Aaron Judge to a nine-year, $360 million contract. The 30-year-old ultimately will remain with the Yankees after Jon Heyman of the MLB Network reported that the slugger would sign with the Giants on Tuesday. Heyman later retracted his report. The star outfielder also met with the Padres Tuesday, but the Yankees bumped their offer Wednesday morning to keep him in New York. Judge had an incredible 2022 campaign, slashing .311/.425/.686 with 62 home runs, 131 RBI, 133 runs, and 16 stolen bases over 157 games with the Yankees. He set the American League home run record and was named the AL MVP last year. Judge is expected to be a top-five fantasy pick in upcoming 2023 fantasy drafts.

The San Francisco Giants had a chance to give their free-agent pitch to outfielder Aaron Judge the last two days, and MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi expects the Giants to make a formal offer to Judge within the week. Judge and his agent had dinner with president/CEO Larry Baer, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, manager Gabe Kapler and other members of the organization on Monday and continued to meet with the team on Tuesday. Morosi could see Judge signing with a team in the next two weeks by the end of the Winter Meetings. The 2022 American League MVP broke the AL home run record with 62 home runs for the New York Yankees last season and will be cashing in on the open market this winter, whether it be with the Yankees, Giants or another team. And wherever he lands, Judge will remain an elite power bat in fantasy.

As expected, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge was named the 2022 American League Most Valuable Player on Thursday. Judge picked a nice season to set an AL record with 62 home runs before becoming a free agent this offseason. While also breaking Roger Maris' single-season AL home run record, Judge also finished just five batting average points shy of the Triple Crown. The right-handed slugger beat out Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Judge hit 16 more homers than anybody else in baseball and also led the league in RBI (131), OPS (1.111), OPS+ (211), total bases (391) and runs scored (133). His 15.9 percent walk rate was in the top one percent in baseball, and his 23.9 percent chase rate ranked in the 89th percentile.
