  Jesse Winker, Abraham Toro Heading To Brewers

  The Milwaukee Brewers acquired outfielder Jesse Winker and third baseman Abraham Toro from the Seattle Mariners on Friday in exchange for second baseman Kolten Wong, according to sources. Winker will help replace Hunter Renfroe, who was shipped to the Los Angeles Angels recently. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger ended his season early in 2022 and needed knee and neck surgeries. He struggled after being a first-time All-Star in 2021 with the Cincinnati Reds, slashing .219/.344/.688 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI and 51 runs scored in 136 games for the M's. With better health and in a hitter-friendly environment, Winker could bounce back in his new digs. Toro also struggled offensively by hitting .185/.239/.324 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in a career-high 109 games in Seattle. He could be competing with youngster Brice Turang for a starting job in Milwaukee in 2023.

  Jesse Winker To Have Neck Surgery

  Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said that outfielder Jesse Winker (knee, neck) underwent surgery on his knee last week and is also scheduled to have surgery on his neck. Winker's 2022 season ended early right as the playoffs began in early October, and he was also apparently dealing with a knee injury that required him to go under the knife. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger was a first-time All-Star with the Cincinnati Reds in 2021, but he disappointed in his first year in Seattle by hitting just .219/.344/.344 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI and 51 runs scored in 547 plate appearances and 136 games. He should enter spring training in 2023 as the projected starter in left field, but he'll have to play much better to avoid becoming a platoon or bench option for the M's.

  Jesse Winker Dealing With Neck Issue

  Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that outfielder Jesse Winker (neck) was scratched from the lineup on Monday against the Detroit Tigers with a neck issue. Winker came in before the game on Monday and said he wouldn't be able to play. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday for the team's doubleheader, but the Mariners probably won't push him so that they can have him ready to go for the start of the postseason this weekend in the wild-card series. Sam Haggerty (groin) suffered a potentially serious injury on Monday night as well, so Dylan Moore and Jarred Kelenic could see more playing time for the team's final three regular season games this week.
