Mets Sign Abraham Almonte To Minor-League Deal
The New York Mets signed outfielder Abraham Almonte, right-handers Tommy Hunter and Jimmy Yacabonis and infielder Jose Peraza to minor-league deals on Friday that include invitations to major-league spring training. Right-hander Sean Reid-Foley was also signed to a minor-league deal. Almonte opened the 2022 season with the Milwaukee Brewers and was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox. The 33-year-old Dominican only played in 15 major-league games for the Red Sox, going 9-for-35 with a homer, two RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base. Almonte will be organizational outfield depth for the Mets. He has a career .235/.302/.374 slash line with a .676 OPS, 24 home runs and 118 RBI in 455 games over 10 big-league seasons.

The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Abraham Almonte for assignment on Wednesday. The 33-year-old appeared in 15 games for Boston this past season, batting .257 with a .297 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 37 plate appearances. As of now, Boston's outfield options on the 40-man roster include Jarren Duran, Enrique Hernandez, Tommy Pham, Rob Refsnyder, and Alex Verdugo. The Red Sox also claimed catcher Caleb Hamilton off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.

The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Abraham Almonte for assignment on Tuesday and claimed catcher Caleb Hamilton off waivers from the Minnesota Twins in a corresponding move. Almonte played in just 15 games for the Red Sox this year, going 9-for-35 (.257) with a homer, two RBI and seven runs scored. He slashed .291/.469/.536 with a 1.006 OPS, seven home runs, 24 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases in 32 games for Triple-A Worcester. Hamilton, 27, plays infield and outfield and made his big-league debut in 2022 with the Twins. He went 1-for-18 (.056) with a home run, five runs scored, four walks and 14 strikeouts. Hamilton was a 23rd-round pick out of Oregon State back in 2016.
