Chris Bassitt Signs With The Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent starting pitcher Chris Bassitt to a three-year, $63 million deal on Monday, pending a physical. Bassitt comes over from the New York Mets after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts in his lone season in Queens. The 33-year-old right-hander will boost a strong Toronto rotation in 2023 and beyond. Bassitt heads to another tough division in the American League East in a tough hitter's ballpark, but he was an All-Star in 2021 with the Oakland Athletics when he went 12-4 with a 3.15 ERA (3.34 FIP) and a 1.05 WHIP in 27 starts.

Chris Bassitt To Decline Qualifying Offer

New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Bassitt will decline the $19.65 million qualifying offer from the Mets, which doesn't come as a surprise after he already declined his $19 million option for the 2023 season to become a free agent. He is seeking a more lucrative multi-year deal on the open market this offseason, and he should be able to find that after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts for the Mets. Bassitt, Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker are all free agents this offseason, so the Mets starting rotation could look quite different heading into the 2023 season, especially if they don't bring back deGrom.

Chris Bassitt Receives Qualifying Offer From Mets

The New York Mets extended the $19.65 million qualifying offer to free-agent starting pitcher Chris Bassitt on Thursday, as expected. The Mets also gave the qualifying offer to right-hander Jacob deGrom and outfielder Brandon Nimmo but didn't give one to starting pitcher Taijuan Walker. It made sense to give Bassitt the $19 million qualifying offer after he declined his $19 million option for the 2023 season. The 33-year-old should be able to secure a nice multi-year deal on the open market after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.15 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over his 30 starts in his only season in New York.

Chris Bassitt To Decline His Mutual Option

New York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt will decline his $19 million mutual option for the 2023 season, as has been long suspected. Bassitt will be in for a multi-year deal on the open market at that rate or likely more. Even though the 33-year-old didn't do well in his start in the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres, he was solid in his first and perhaps only season in the Big Apple. Bassitt finished his 2022 regular season by going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts. He made his first All-Star team with the Oakland Athletics in 2021 and posted a solid 22.4 percent strikeout rate this year with the Mets.
