Justin Turner Agrees With Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox and free-agent third baseman Justin Turner agreed to a two-year deal worth just under $22 million on Sunday, according to sources. The 38-year-old Turner is expected to spend most of his time at designated hitter or first base with Rafael Devers locked in at the hot corner. It's an end of an era for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as Turner had spent the last nine years in LA. Turner will help make up for the loss of J.D. Martinez, who ironically signed with the Dodgers on Saturday. Turner's power was way down in his final season with the Blue, as he posted just 13 home runs and a .438 slugging percentage in 128 games. He lands in a good environment at Fenway Park and in the hitter-friendly American League East, but fantasy managers should expect more diminished power along with a useful average and on-base percentage.

Dodgers Decline Justin Turner's 2023 Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers declined their $16 million team option for the 2023 season on third baseman Justin Turner on Thursday, making him a free agent. The Dodgers are interested in re-signing him at a lower price, so there's a chance Turner won't leave the team he's spent the last nine years with. In 2022, the 37-year-old veteran hit a respectable .278/.350/.438 with 13 home runs, 81 RBI, 61 runs scored and three stolen bases in 532 plate appearances and 128 games at third base and designated hitter. The two-time All-Star hit a career-high-tying 27 long balls in 2021, so his drop to 13 this year was significant. Turner is still a good source of on-base percentage and average, but the drop in power production is a reminder that his best days are behind him.

Justin Turner Receives 2022 Roberto Clemente Award Monday

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was named the winner of the 2022 Roberto Clemente Award on Monday. The award is given annually to the player who "best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field." This was the veteran's fifth nomination for the award. Turner has been an impact player both on and off the field for the Dodgers, as he owns a .296/.375/.490 slash line with 156 home runs and 574 RBI over his nine seasons with the team. It remains to be seen if the Dodgers will pick up his team option for the 2023 season.

Dodgers May Not Pick Up Justin Turner's 2023 Club Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still deciding whether they will pick up third baseman Justin Turner's $16 million team option for the 2023 season, per the Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. The 37-year-old veteran provided yet another productive regular season, slashing .278/.350/.438 with 13 home runs and 81 RBI in 532 plate appearances. Turner has been a fantasy staple for some time now, although his power production did take a hit this season. His fantasy value in 2023 will of course depend on where he ends up playing and his role, but it looks like he can still contribute in some facets if given routine playing time.

Justin Turner Riding Pine Again Thursday

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner (leg) remains out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the division-rival San Diego Padres. Turner is dealing with an injured left leg and could be out for another few games as the Dodgers look to rest him up before the postseason. LA has already locked up the National League West and the top seed in the National League, so they have nothing left to play for heading into the final few games of the regular season. Max Muncy is starting at third base and is hitting fifth on Thursday against Padres right-handed opener Steven Wilson. Muncy is hitting exactly .200 on the season, but he does have 21 home runs. He's gone hitless in his last 13 at-bats with three strikeouts over four games.

Justin Turner Will Be Out A Few Games

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said third baseman Justin Turner (leg) would probably be out for a few days. He fouled a ball off his last week, then aggravated it again on a slide in Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. The 37-year-old is experiencing swelling in his shin. It's unclear how many games the veteran will miss and is considered day-to-day. Turner is slashing .280/.353/.444 with 13 home runs, 81 RBI, 61 runs, and three stolen bases over 521 plate appearances in 125 games in 2022. Miguel Vargas and Max Muncy will fill in at third base while Turner is sidelined.
