  Mets Pick Up Carlos Carrasco's Option

  The New York Mets are picking up starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco's $14 million option for the 2023 season, according to general manager Billy Eppler. The Mets need all the starting pitching help they can with Jacob deGrom, Chris Bassitt and Taijuan Walker all hitting free agency this offseason. Carrasco, 35, finished his second full season in New York by going 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA (3.53 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP and a 152:41 K:BB in 152 innings pitched over his 29 starts. As of right now, Carrasco and Max Scherzer headline the Mets' starting rotation, and it remains to be seen if the Mets will be able to bring back perennial Cy Young candidate deGrom into the fold.

  New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) will return from the injured list to start Sunday against the Washington Nationals. He threw a bullpen session and simulated game last week but will return to action without a rehab outing. The 35-year-old could be on a pitch count in his first start back. He owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 124:33 K: BB across 126 1/3 innings in 2022. The veteran right-hander is expected to replace David Peterson in the starting rotation.   Carlos Carrasco Could Return Soon

  New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) could return by the end of the week. The right-hander was able to throw a 55-pitch simulated game without any issues on Monday. That being said, it sounds like the Mets are going to allow Carrasco to skip a minor league rehab assignment. The right-hander has been sidelined since August 15 due to a left oblique strain. He was expected to miss roughly a month, but should return much sooner than that. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more information this week.

  New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) will throw a simulated game Monday. He had been sidelined since August 16 with a low-grade left oblique strain. Barring any setbacks with Monday's simulated game, the Mets right-hander is expected to begin a rehab assignment shortly after. He owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 124:33 K: BB across 126 1/3 innings in 2022. The 35-year-old threw a bullpen session earlier in the week and is on track to join the Mets rotation sometime next week. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot should continue to stash Carrasco in all league formats.

  Carlos Carrasco To Return Next Weekend

  New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) is on track to rejoin the team's starting rotation next weekend. Carrasco felt much better after throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday after he landed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique last week. Oblique injuries typically require a longer recovery period, but the 35-year-old right-hander doesn't appear to be dealing with a serious strain. He will throw another bullpen session on Friday, but it's unclear if he'll make any minor league rehab starts before rejoining the Mets.   Carlos Carrasco Throws Bullpen Session

  New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) said he felt "much, much better" after throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday. He's now scheduled to throw another bullpen on Friday. Carrasco was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique last week, but he appears to be making good progress. He was initially expected to miss three to four weeks, so it remains to be seen if he'll be sent on a minor league rehab assignment after he completes a couple bullpen sessions.
