Aroldis Chapman Activated Off Injured List

New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman (leg) has been activated off the IL before their weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Chapman hasn't pitched since August due to a leg infection related to a tattoo. The fireballer threw two innings of scoreless ball in his minor league rehab games, striking out five while allowing three baserunners. Chapman will likely return to a set-up role behind closer Clay Holmes, limiting his fantasy value. He is still useful in save plus holds leagues, but outside of that he can be safely dropped.

Aroldis Chapman Set To Return Friday

New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman (leg) will join the team on Friday and be activated ahead of the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. He tossed a scoreless inning on Sunday for Double-A Somerset, walking one and striking out three. The 35-year-old owns a 4.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and a 35:22 K: BB across 30 2/3 innings in 2022. He has been sidelined since mid-August and is expected to set up closer Clay Holmes once activated from the injured list. Chapman is mainly an option in league formats that reward saves and holds.

Aroldis Chapman Expected To Return Friday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (leg) will rejoin the team in Milwaukee and is expected to be activated from the injured list on Friday for the start of a series against the Brewers, according to skipper Aaron Boone. Chapman has been away from the team since Aug. 19 and landed on the injured list due to a leg infection related to a tattoo. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw looked good in two minor league rehab innings earlier this week, and he's in line to return to a setup role in the Yankees bullpen ahead of closer Clay Holmes this weekend. Without being the team's primary closer, Chapman has lost a ton of fantasy value, and he's struggled to the tune of a 4.70 ERA (4.78 FIP), a 1.43 WHIP, nine saves and 35 strikeouts in 30 2/3 relief innings in 2022.

Aroldis Chapman Fans Three In Rehab Outing

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (leg) tossed a scoreless and hitless inning on Sunday for Double-A Somerset, walking one and striking out three in the process. It was Chapman's first minor league rehab outing, but he's expected to return to the Yankees bullpen early this week, barring any setbacks. The 35-year-old southpaw has been sidelined since late August due to a left leg infection from a tattoo. When he's back in the Bronx, he'll serve as a late-inning setup man in front of closer Clay Holmes. Chapman has struggled in 2022 to the tune of a 4.70 ERA (4.78 FIP), a 1.43 WHIP and 35 strikeouts while saving nine games in 30 2/3 relief innings.

Aroldis Chapman To Begin Rehab Assignment Sunday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (leg) will start a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Sunday. Chapman said he expects to have another rehab outing after that and then expects to be activated from the injured list on the team's upcoming road trip. The 34-year-old left-hander threw a bullpen session on Friday. Barring a setback on Sunday or Monday, Chapman could rejoin the team for the start of their series next Tuesday against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. Chapman has struggled this year to the tune of a 4.70 ERA (4.78 FIP) and a 1.43 WHIP while earning nine saves and striking out 35 in 30 2/3 innings pitched. Clay Holmes is cemented in as the team's closer, so Chapman is likely to return in a setup role when he returns from the injured list.

Aroldis Chapman Expected To Return This Season

The New York Yankees placed left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman (leg) on the 15-day injured list on Saturday due to a left leg infection that stemmed from a new tattoo that he recently got. Skipper Aaron Boone said the last 24 to 36 hours "have been a lot better for Chapman." The Yankees expect Chapman to return this season. Before landing on the injured list last weekend, he hadn't pitched since Aug. 19 and had allowed three earned runs while walking four in one inning pitched in his last two appearances. It's been a tough year for the 34-year-old southpaw, as he has a 4.70 ERA (4.79 FIP) with a 1.43 WHIP, nine saves and 35 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. With Clay Holmes off the injured list, Chapman may not have much use in fantasy the rest of the way.

Aroldis Chapman Lands On IL After Tattoo Infection

New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday after a recent tattoo on his leg developed an infection. It's hard to know how long the 34-year-old will be sidelined after this bizarre occurrence, but it's almost a certainty now that he won't be able to reclaim the ninth inning role with the club by season's end. Between an injury to his ankle and struggling to a 4.70 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 36 appearances, Chapman has proved to be one of the biggest reliever disappointments of the season with this latest incident only adding fuel to the fire.

Aroldis Chapman Not Ready For High-Leverage Work

In the New York Yankees' 4-2 win on Tuesday over the New York Mets, relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman was nowhere to be found. Relievers Clarke Schmidt and Wandy Peralta combined to shut the door in the Bronx. Schmidt tossed the last three innings before loading the bases with two outs in the ninth inning, at which point Peralta came in to earn the one-out save. Chapman had a nine-game stretch from July 26 to Aug. 13 in which he didn't allow a run in 9 1/3 innings in lower-leverage spots, but he's walked four batters in two appearances since, and manager Aaron Boone isn't ready to return him to a high-leverage role just yet. With Clay Holmes and Scott Effross on the injured list, Peralta, Jonathan Loaisiga and Lou Trivino have all closed out games.

Aroldis Chapman, Scott Effross To Share Save Duties

With New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes (back) going on the injured list on Wednesday, the team is expected to use a closer-by-committee approach consisting of relievers Aroldis Chapman and Scott Effross. It's unclear if Holmes, who is expected to return from the 15-day IL when he's eligible, will return to closing duties when he's activated after posting an 8.03 ERA since the start of July. "We'll just kind of put everyone in the best position to be at their best, so it could be a number of guys," manager Aaron Boone said. Chapman has 315 career saves, while Effross, a rookie, has just two, with both coming this year. Lou Trivino has 32 saves since the start of 2021, so he could also be in the mix. It remains to be seen exactly how Boone will handle save chances, but Chapman will likely see most of the opportunities.
