Astros "Finalizing A Deal For" Jose Abreu

According to a tweet from USA Today's Bob Nightengale on Monday, the Houston Astros are reportedly "finalizing a deal for" Jose Abreu. According to the Houston Chronicle's Chandler Rome, the deal is expected to be for three years and around $20 million per year. Nightengale tweeted the following on Monday morning: "The Houston #Astros are finalizing a deal for free-agent first baseman Jose Abreu." The slugger hit .304 last season in 679 plate appearances for the Chicago White Sox, adding 15 home runs and a strong .378 on-base percentage in those 679 plate appearances. He'll give the Astros yet another quality lineup option alongside the likes of Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Jose Altuve, and Jeremy Pena.

Jose Abreu Not Likely To Return To White Sox In 2023

The Chicago White Sox are likely not going to pursue re-signing free agent first baseman Jose Abreu, per Chicago Sun Times' Daryl Van Schouwen. Abreu has spent his entire nine-season career with the White Sox and had another productive season, slashing .304/.378/.446 with 15 home runs and 75 RBI. However, the White Sox are likely going to give the everyday first base opportunity to 24-year-old Andrew Vaughn, who played outfield for most of this season and slashed .271/.321/.429 with 17 HR and 76 RBI. Abreu has been a higher-end fantasy option for his career, but he will be 36 entering the 2023 season and had a career-low HR count and slugging percentage. It will be interesting to see where he lands for next season, which will help determine his potential fantasy value.

Jose Abreu, Eloy Jimenez Will Sit In Season Finale

Chicago White Sox acting manager Miguel Cairo said that first baseman Jose Abreu and outfielders Eloy Jimenez and AJ Pollock will get the season finale off on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. Abreu will finish his 2022 season with a strong .304/.378/.446 slash line with an .824 OPS, 15 homers, 75 RBI and 85 runs scored in 601 at-bats. Jimenez only managed to play in 84 games, but he was solid when on the field with a .295/.358/.500 slash line with an .858 OPS, 16 homers, 54 RBI and 40 runs scored. And finally, Pollock hit a pedestrian .245/.292/.389 with 14 home runs, 56 RBI, 61 runs scored and three stolen bases in 527 plate appearances over 138 games in his first year in Chicago.
