San Francisco 49ers Transactions

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday. McCaffrey has been dealing with a knee issue for several weeks and has been limited at practice in back-to-back weeks. The 26-year-old hasn't missed anytime and is expected to be available for Saturday's wild-card game against the Seattle Seahawks. CMC rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown while catching six passes for 30 yards in his previous game in Week 15 against Seattle. McCaffrey is an expensive but elite DFS option against the Seahawks defense that allowed the league's third most rushing yards (2,554) in 2022.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) has been removed from the injury report ahead of Saturday's Wild-Card game against the Seattle Seahawks. McCaffrey has been dealing with a lingering knee issue, but it doesn't sound like it's going to sideline him for this contest. McCaffrey played well against Seattle during their most recent matchup in Week 15. He'll be an expensive, but elite DFS option for this weekend. Fantasy managers can decide if they want to take the risk, but at least they know he'll be healthy enough to suit up.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) was limited in Tuesday's practice. McCaffrey has been managing a knee issue in recent weeks, but he hasn't missed any time and is fully expected to be on the field to kick off the playoffs this Saturday in a wild-card matchup against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks. The 26-year-old is San Francisco's unquestioned lead back, and he should see plenty of work this weekend. In his lone meeting against the Seahawks in Week 15, CMC had a season-high 26 carries for 108 yards and a touchdown and also caught six of eight targets for 30 yards. He's probably the most expensive fantasy RB in DFS this week, but he might be totally worth it against a Seattle defense that allowed the fourth-most half-PPR points this year to opposing running backs.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers will activate running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) from Injured Reserve on Saturday to the active roster. Mitchell is expected to be active for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals for the first time since Week 12. Because of the long layoff, it's unclear exactly how much Mitchell will play this weekend, and he'll also be battling for backfield touches with Christian McCaffrey and rookie Jordan Mason. After leading San Fran's backfield in 2021, Mitchell has played in only four games this year and has 40 carries for 224 yards and no touchdowns while adding three receptions for seven yards. He'll continue to take a back seat to CMC heading into the postseason.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the plan remains for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) to be available late in the playoffs. Garoppolo is able to put some weight on his still-healing fractured left foot. A return to the NFC Championship game is the most realistic option for the Niners, assuming they are able to make it that deep into the postseason with rookie Brock Purdy under center. If Purdy is able to lead the 49ers to the NFC title game, there's still no guarantee that they'd choose Garoppolo over the rookie, especially since he hasn't played since Week 13. In 11 games (10 starts) before breaking his foot, Jimmy G had a 67.2% completion percentage, 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been officially activated off the injured reserve. This was expected as Mitchell should be back in action for the Week 18 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. However, it's unclear how big of a role Mitchell is going to have during his first game back. The 24-year-old hasn't played since Week 12, so the 49ers might ease him into action. The expectation is that Christian McCaffrey is going to be the lead back and get a bulk of the carries. Mitchell won't be a great option in fantasy formats going forward with McCaffrey healthy.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Thursday. It's actually a downgrade from when he was a full participant on Wednesday, but it's likely the team was just giving him a bit of a break heading into the Week 18 regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals. Samuel hasn't played since Week 14 after suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee and a sprained ankle, but the 26-year-old is trending toward making his return this weekend. The Niners will not push Samuel too hard in his first game back, so fantasy managers should still consider him an extremely risky option for starting lineups in both DFS and season-long leagues.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle) didn't participate in practice on Thursday. The same ankle issue that has been bothering him for around a month has held him out of some practices but hasn't stopped him from playing in a game just yet. He did play 85 percent of the offensive snaps for the Niners against the Raiders in Week 17. They can still grab the first overall seed in the NFC in Week 18, so McCaffrey will likely still start when they take on the Arizona Cardinals.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, ribs) was a limited practice participant Thursday. The 23-year-old initially injured his oblique in the Week 14 win over the Bucs but has to miss a game. The oblique injury hasn't slowed the rookie quarterback down, as he's thrown for 735 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions over the last three games. Purdy is expected to be available for the regular season finale against the Cardinals and remains a borderline QB1 in Week 18.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was designated to return from injured reserve and was back at practice this week. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since Week 12 with an MCL sprain. Christian McCaffrey (ankle, knee) was held out of Thursday's practice for precautionary reasons. Mitchell has rushed for 224 yards on 40 attempts over four games in 2022. Mitchell would serve as McCaffrey's backup and provide the 49ers RB depth, making him a risky fantasy option for the regular season finale.
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said that wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) is expected to play in the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Samuel practiced in full on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday, but he's still expected to make his first appearance since getting injured in Week 14. The 26-year-old is returning from a sprained left MCL and a sprained left ankle, so fantasy managers shouldn't necessarily expect a full workload in his first game back. The Niners will prioritize Samuel's health for the postseason first and foremost. There's a good chance he'll be listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report, but Samuel is expected to be active Sunday. He'll be a risky fantasy play.
The San Francisco 49ers will play it safe with running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle, knee) in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. "If he's not right we won't have him out there. Want him right for playoffs. But if healthy he'll play," general manager John Lynch said. McCaffrey missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday and will most likely be listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report if he's able to practice on Friday. The Niners still need to win this weekend and are still in play for the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC, but they won't ride CMC hard if they don't have to. Their priority will be to come out of this game without any injuries to key players like McCaffrey. There's inherent risk in the regular season finale, but if McCaffrey is active, he needs to be in all season-long lineups.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) has been removed from the Week 18 injury report and is expected to play in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. It will be Samuel's first game action since he sprained his left MCL and sprained his left ankle in Week 14. Because of the long layoff, there's a good chance the Niners take it easy on the 26-year-old and ease him back into the offense to ensure that he's fully healthy entering the postseason. If running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) is limited at all or held out, Samuel's chances for a bigger workload would increase, but he's still a risky fantasy proposition in his first game back in a game the Niners should be able to win easily.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle, knee) returned to practice on Friday and has been cleared to play in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. McCaffrey was held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, leading to some speculation that he may not play this weekend. The 26-year-old will be active against Arizona, but there's not a guarantee that he'll see his normal heavy workload. The Niners still have a shot at the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC with a win and an Eagles loss, but depending on how things are going on Sunday, CMC could be pulled early. He'll also have more competition for backfield touches with the expected return of Elijah Mitchell (knee), who is coming off Injured Reserve.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. The 26-year-old missed the last three games due to a sprained MCL in his left knee and a left ankle sprain he sustained in the Week 14 win over the Buccaneers. He is trending in the right direction and will look to practice the rest of the week. The dual-threat has caught 54 passes for 612 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 228 yards and three scores over 12 games in 2022. Samuel will return to his "wideback" role and is considered a borderline WR2/3 against the Cardinals in Week 18.
Wednesday, January 04
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle) will not take part in practice on Wednesday. McCaffrey has been dealing with an ankle injury for around a month now, but he hasn't missed any games. The 26-year-old carried the ball 19 times for a season-high 121 yards and a touchdown and also caught six passes for 72 yards in the Week 17 overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders on 85 percent of the offensive snaps. The Niners are most likely just taking it easy on CMC heading into their Week 18 game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Niners still have a chance at the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC and a first-round bye (if the Eagles lose), so McCaffrey should at least start Sunday's game.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) participated in the team's practice on Wednesday after being designated to return from Injured Reserve. Mitchell has not suited up since suffering a sprained MCL in Week 12. It's currently unknown if the 24-year-old will be activated in time to play this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but it is a good sign that he will likely make an impact during San Francisco's playoff run. With Christian McCaffrey (ankle) dealing with an ankle injury, the 49ers could use reliable depth in Mitchell alongside Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason.
Tuesday, January 03
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle) is dealing with a mild ankle sprain and is day-to-day, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. McCaffrey appeared to emerge from a Week 17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders without any issues after seeing 25 touches. It is encouraging that the team is calling the sprain mild, but anytime the oft-injured running back pops up with an issue, it is worth monitoring. Keep an eye on his practice reports throughout the week as the 49ers gear up to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18. Rookies Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason would probably share the load if McCaffrey is held out of the regular-season finale.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) and running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) are expected to get some work in at practice this week. Samuel has missed three straight games while Mitchell has been out since Week 12. It remains unknown whether either player will be back for Week 18's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders but expect the 49ers to play it safe as they eye a postseason run. Stay tuned for updates.
Monday, January 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (back) was forced to exit early and didn't return for the Week 17 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The fourth-year linebacker suffered a back injury and will undergo additional testing on Monday. His absence would be a massive loss for this defense heading into the final week of the season and the postseason. Azeez Al-Shaair would likely be more involved going forward, assuming Greenlaw misses more time.
Sunday, January 01
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) underwent a second surgery on his right ankle, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, it was done to remove the "hardware" placed during his initial procedure and isn't expected to "affect his ability to prepare for the 2023 season." The 2021 No. 3 overall selection appeared in only two games in 2022-23, amassing 194 yards and an interception while completing a hideous 48.4% of his throws. He also totaled 67 yards off 16 carries. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign ended abruptly after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the Week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Nevertheless, Lance is anticipated to participate in OTAs. But there are too many unknowns between now and September to say for certain if he'll be ready for Week 1. The fate of Jimmy Garoppolo (foot), who is set for free agency, and the production of Brock Purdy, are all elements that could factor into Lance's future not only on the fantasy end but in the Bay Area as well.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) was able to get in a limited practice session on Thursday. This comes as no shock considering McCaffrey has been banged up for roughly a month. Despite that, McCaffrey has not played fewer than 70% of the offensive snaps. The expectation is that McCaffrey will be fine for the upcoming Week 17 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday for another update, but he should be out there this weekend.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) remained limited during Thursday's practice. This was nothing new for the rookie, who was also limited Wednesday. Mason only played on special teams last week, and his path to meaningful snaps on offense could shrink even further if the 49ers activate Elijah Mitchell (knee) from IR. Go ahead and leave Mason on waivers in all redraft leagues.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) has officially been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday despite returning to the practice field this week. The 26-year-old will miss his third straight game, so fantasy managers won't have him for their championship matchups unless you're playing for a trophy in Week 18. Still, with the Niners wanting him to be healthy for the postseason, there's no guarantee we'll see Samuel again in the regular season. In last week's win over the Washington Commanders, tight end George Kittle had another big game and led San Fran in receiving with six catches, 120 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Aiyuk had five receptions for 81 yards and should remain heavily involved in an excellent matchup against the Raiders this weekend.
Thursday, December 29
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. He picked up a hamstring injury during practice last week. Despite dealing with a hamstring issue, the 23-year-old was active for Week 16 against the Commanders. Mason logged 17 snaps but didn't receive a carry in last Saturday's win over Washington after logging 15 rushing attempts in the previous two games. The Georgia Tech product is expected to back up Christian McCaffrey on Sunday against the Raiders. Mason is a boom-or-bust option in a plus matchup versus a Raiders defense that ranks 20th in rush DVOA.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) was indeed practicing on Thursday. Samuel was seen doing a little dancing and also ran some routes. It doesn't mean he will return this Sunday to face the Las Vegas Raiders, but it's a great sign for his availability in the playoffs. Thursday is Samuel's first day practicing since he suffered knee and ankle injuries in Week 14. The 26-year-old will likely be listed as a limited practice participant on Thursday, but fantasy managers playing for a championship either this week or next shouldn't be holding out any hope that he'll suit up, let alone be productive. Even if Samuel were to play this weekend, the Niners would likely cap his snaps in order to make sure he doesn't suffer a setback.
Wednesday, December 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee, ankle) did not participate in the team's practice on Wednesday but has a chance to return on Thursday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Samuel has not seen the field since he suffered a knee injury in Week 14, but seemingly has a shot to play on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for any updates throughout the week as Samuel would be a worthwhile starting option if given a full allotment of snaps.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, rib) was a full participant in the team's practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 17 bout with the Las Vegas Raiders. Purdy was limited in practice last week with the same ailments but ultimately took the field against the Washington Commanders, and appears to be a full-go for this Sunday's contest. The rookie has performed well in his three starts and gets an excellent matchup this week. He should be viewed as a solid fantasy QB2 in superflex and two-quarterback formats.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) was listed as a limited participant in the team's practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 17 contest against the Las Vegas Raiders. McCaffrey has been dealing with a knee injury for multiple weeks now but has continued to suit up and produce for fantasy purposes despite having his practice reps limited. Assuming he does not suffer any setbacks this week, fantasy managers should have no concerns rolling with McCaffrey as a sure-fire RB1 in an enticing matchup.
Saturday, December 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley is inactive for Saturday's meeting with the Washington Commanders. George Kittle, Tyler Kroft, and Charlie Woerner are all in the lineup in Week 16, so Dwelley's designation is hardly a surprise. Considering he has only three catches and one touchdown this season, he wouldn't have seen much action even if he were in uniform.
Friday, December 23
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Washington Commanders. The 23-year-old was a late addition to the injury report after his hamstring tightened up during Wednesday's practice. Mason has rushed for 120 yards on 15 attempts over the last two games. If Mason cannot suit up, Tyrion Davis-Price or Tevin Coleman will serve as McCaffrey's top backup. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Saturday for Mason's status. If active, the Georgia Tech product is considered a flex play in deep-league formats against the Commanders.
The San Francisco 49ers officially activated defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) from Injured Reserve on Friday, giving an already dominant defensive line even more help heading into the postseason. Kinlaw played the first three games of the season before landing on Injured Reserve. The 25-year-old tore his ACL last season and wasn't quite ready to make his return. Hopefully, he'll be good to go for the final three regular season games and for the postseason. Kinlaw has only played 21 games (19 starts) so far in three NFL seasons, but his presence the rest of this season will surely be a boost for the Niners D. Start San Fran's defensive unit with confidence on Saturday against the Washington Commanders.
Thursday, December 22
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, ribs) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. The 22-year-old sustained oblique and rib injuries in the Week 14 win against the Buccaneers, but he has yet to miss a game. He will have two more chances to log a full practice this week. The 49ers' rookie quarterback has thrown 678 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for a score over six games in 2022. He has played recently and will look to keep things rolling in Week 16's matchup against the Commanders. Purdy is considered a mid-range QB2 against a Washington defense that ranks 15th in pass DVOA this season.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday. The 26-year-old has been limited at practice over the last four weeks with a knee injury but has yet to miss a game. CMC has been producing for fantasy managers in the previous two weeks, rushing for 227 yards on 40 attempts and two touchdowns while catching eight passes for 64 yards and a score. McCaffrey will be limited at practice the rest of the week but will suit up against Commanders in Week 16. Washington ranks fourth in rush DVOA this season. Despite the tough matchup, McCaffrey remains a must-start versus Washington in Week 16.
Washington Commanders pass-rusher Chase Young (knee) is off the final injury report on Friday and is a full-go for the Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Young will be make his season debut after rupturing his patellar tendon and tearing his ACL in 2021. Young was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list back on Nov. 21, but the Commanders have been cautious in bringing the 23-year-old pass-rusher back. Washington will surely ease Young back into the fold this weekend and for the rest of the season, so he probably isn't going to be in must-start territory for fantasy managers in IDP leagues. But Young's return will surely be a boost to an already strong Commanders pass rush.
Tuesday, December 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers designated first-round defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) to return from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, opening his 21-day practice window and for the team to officially activate him from Injured Reserve. If Kinlaw looks good at practice this week, he'll have a shot to make his return in a Week 16 matchup versus the Washington Commanders on Saturday. The 25-year-old had two solo tackles in the first three games of the season before getting hurt and landing on Injured Reserve. One of the best defensive lines in football is about to get another excellent player back. Fantasy managers should continue to start San Fran's defensive unit with plenty of confidence, including this weekend against Washington.
Friday, December 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers placed defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway (pectoral) on Injured Reserve on Thursday and promoted cornerback Janoris Jenkins and wide receiver Willie Snead IV to the active roster from the practice squad for Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Ridgeway strained his pectoral muscle in Week 13 and will now miss the last four games of the regular season, but the 28-year-old could be available for the first round of the postseason as long as he doesn't suffer a setback along the way. The Niners are getting thin on the interior of their defensive line late in the year. T.Y. McGill and Akeem Spence will see more playing time with Ridgeway sidelined for at least four weeks.
Thursday, December 15
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, rib), who is listed as questionable for Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks, is expected to start, according to league sources. Purdy is expected to be able to play without risking further damage to his existing injuries. The 22-year-old probably won't be 100 percent on Thursday, which could affect his performance in just his second career start this week. In the last two games, Purdy has gone 41-for-58 for 395 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception. He has also scored a rushing touchdown. Seattle has been a pretty neutral matchup for opposing QBs this year. Purdy will be without receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) but will still be firmly in the QB2 mix for fantasy managers.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique) is active for the Week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. This is good news as the 22-year-old was questionable heading into this contest. It's unlikely that Purdy is 100 percent healthy, but he's going to make the start on Thursday. In his last two games, Purdy has thrown for nearly 400 yards with four touchdowns and only one interception. He'll be a mid-range QB2 for this Thursday Night matchup with the Seahawks.
Wednesday, December 14
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique/rib) was injured late in their victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday. The 22-year-old is questionable to play on Thursday against Seattle. However, we might not know his status until closer to kickoff, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, whose comments on Tuesday read, "we don't have much time, but we're not going to try to figure that out today or tomorrow." The backup to Purdy is Josh Johnson, who would take over as the starter, which might negatively impact the offense. Fantasy managers relying on Purdy will need to monitor news reports over the next 24 hours to get more clarity.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, ribs) has been limited at practice, but he says he "feels good." He does not have an official injury designation as of Wednesday afternoon ahead of a Thursday night game, and head coach Kyle Shanahan says, "It will probably be on Thursday where we have the best chance to know." After finishing as the QB8 in his first start, the 22-year-old would face the Seattle Seahawks, a slightly below-average pass defense, if healthy. The Seahawks rank No. 18 in passing yards per game allowed, No. 19 in completion percentage and No. 19 in yards per pass attempt allowed. By those metrics, the Seahawks are worse at defending the pass than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, against whom Purdy completed 76.2% of his passes and gained 8.8 yards per attempt. The 49ers will be without receiver Deebo Samuel, who injured his ankle last week, but they have enough weapons that Purdy should still be able to put up low-end QB1 numbers if he is able to go.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, rib) was limited again in practice on Wednesday, and he is officially listed as "questionable" in the final injury report before the 49ers' Thursday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks. Earlier in the day, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he won't know whether Purdy is going to be available until game day. The 49ers did get good news about their backfield. Christian McCaffrey (knee) logged a full practice. Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) had already been ruled out and will miss about three weeks.
Tuesday, December 13
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers veteran defensive back Dontae Johnson (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the Week 14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, according to a source. Johnson's injury occurred in the second half while on special teams. The 31-year-old was injured to begin the season and spent most of the year on the team's practice squad. He'll finish the 2022 campaign with only two games played, recording zero tackles. After a disappointing season, Johnson will now have to undergo a rigorous rehab and won't be ready for the 2023 season.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle) is expected to miss roughly three weeks of action, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 26-year-old suffered an MCL sprain and a sprained ankle during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This current timetable has Samuel on track to return for the regular season finale in Week 18. That being said, fantasy managers in season-long redraft formats are unlikely to get anything else from Samuel the rest of the way. The absence of Samuel should mean increased roles for Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey. Also, fellow wideouts Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud III should have increased receiving responsibilities with Samuel sidelined.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique) was limited during Tuesday's practice session, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The rookie signal caller looks to be questionable for Week 15 after back-to-back limited practice sessions. There is still plenty of time for Purdy to get healthy before Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. His absence would likely result in Josh Johnson drawing the start under center. Fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday for another update on Purdy's status.
Monday, December 12
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle) was injured during Sunday's matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The injury certainly didn't look good, and he had to be carted off the field. However, Jordan Schultz of The Score provided a semi-reassuring update, reporting "early indications" are that the wideout "did not suffer a serious injury." While Samuel will undergo further testing, fantasy managers have a reason to remain optimistic, at least until an official update is released by the team.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle) didn't return to Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Fantasy managers remain on edge, and several updates have poured in since he was carted off the field. Although multiple reports continue to suggest the issue isn't serious, considering how bad things appeared, many are hoping for a more definitive answer on his condition. However, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reported that Samuel "most likely" suffered a high-ankle sprain. While it's positive news that it's not broken, this type of ailment can take time to heal, so there's a good chance he may not suit up in Week 15 in Seattle, possibly longer. If so, everyone already expects George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Aiyuk to get extra targets from Brock Purdy. Yet, guys like Ray-Ray McCloud III, Danny Gray, and Jordan Mason, who had 11 touches for 56 yards versus Tampa, could see additional snaps. Nonetheless, Samuel should continue to undergo further testing, so more news should be coming soon.
San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique) is undergoing an MRI exam on Monday on his injured oblique, according to a source. Purdy was injured on the second drive of the game in the Week 14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he played well after the injury, going 16-for-21 for 185 yards and two touchdown passes while adding a rushing score. Pending further tests, there isn't a whole lot of concern for the seventh-rounder moving forward. However, the Niners have a quick turnaround in Week 15 with a game on Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks. With Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) unlikely to play again this year, if Purdy can't go on Thursday night, Josh Johnson would get the start under center for San Fran.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) suffered a sprained MCL and a sprained ankle in a scary looking injury that he suffered in the Week 14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The good news is that Samuel is expected to return during the regular season. In addition, Samuel was feared to have suffered a high-ankle sprain, but apparently the team believes he'll be ready before the playoffs despite these two injuries. The 26-year-old shouldn't be dropped if you have him rostered, but there's a good chance he won't make much of an impact, if any at all, in the fantasy playoffs. For however long he misses, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey will be heavily utilized, while receivers Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud III and rookie Danny Gray will also have elevated roles in the passing game.
San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy (oblique, rib) and running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) were both listed as limited on the team's estimated practice report on Monday. Purdy is considered day-to-day after getting banged up in the Week 14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His status could be in doubt heading into Thursday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. If the 22-year-old seventh-rounder cannot play, Josh Johnson would get the start for San Francisco. McCaffrey played 70 percent of the offensive snaps on Sunday and had 14 carries for a season-high 119 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 34 yards and another score. As long as he doesn't suffer any type of setback on the short week, he should be a must-start RB1 on Thursday night against Seattle.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (hamstring) is anticipated to suit up for the Week 14 matchup against Tampa Bay, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. There was concern that the 25-year-old wouldn't be out there because of a bum hamstring. Yet, it appears he'll be good to go, presumably barring a significant setback. That said, with the Niners and Bucs meeting late on Sunday and after the 1pm (eastern) lock time, fantasy participants will be taking a gamble by keeping Bosa in the lineup before his official game designation is revealed. However, considering the All-Pro has 14.5 sacks this season, IDP managers may be comfortable with the risk.
San Francisco 49ers pass-rusher Nick Bosa (hamstring) is officially active for Week 14 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The talented 25-year-old has appeared in 11 games this season, amassing 36 tackles, 14.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. He'll look to wreak havoc against Tom Brady and the Bucs on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (leg) is questionable to return to Sunday's meeting with Tampa Bay. The wideout injured his left leg after getting tackled in the second quarter and was transported off the field on a cart. It's a tough blow for the 49ers, especially since the team lost Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) for at least the rest of the regular season. Samuel had been playing well before going down, catching four passes for 43 yards while amassing four carries for 21 yards and a touchdown. Although an official designation hasn't been released, his day is likely over. If that's the case, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk are the favorites to see more looks from Brock Purdy.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle) won't return to Sunday's game against Tampa. The wideout injured his left leg in the second quarter before exiting the field on a cart. His day would end with four catches for 43 yards while amassing four carries for 21 yards and a score. There should be an update on his condition soon. However, judging from how it looked, it's possible Samuel could miss time moving forward.

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday. That means, the veteran back will be available for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This appears to be a move to add extra depth in the backfield before gameday. Star back Christian McCaffrey is expected to handle of bulk of the carries in the backfield. After that, Jordan Mason, Tyrion Davis-Price, and possibly Coleman will be mixed in. However, none of them are going to have reliable value outside of McCaffrey for Sunday's Week 14 matchup.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quadriceps) were both limited in practice again on Thursday while going through individual drills. CMC and Samuel are on track to play in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but they could be questionable on Friday's final injury report. McCaffrey played 81 percent of the snaps in last week's win over Miami and is a no-doubt, must-start RB1 for fantasy managers, even in a tough matchup with a stingy Bucs run defense. Samuel had 63 scrimmage yards in Week 13, but his fantasy stock will take a hit the rest of the way with rookie seventh-round quarterback Brock Purdy taking over the offense.
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Friday that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) won't be placed on Injured Reserve because the team has already used six of their eight activations from Injured Reserve in 2022. The team also has running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) that they hope can return for the playoffs, so they have little wiggle room left with the IR. The 31-year-old Garoppolo suffered a broken left foot in the Week 13 win over the Miami Dolphins and is highly unlikely to be able to return this year, even if the team makes a deep run in the postseason. With Garoppolo sidelined, rookie seventh-round quarterback Brock Purdy will be San Fran's starter under center the rest of the way.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quad) was limited in the team's practice on Wednesday. Samuel was listed as questionable for last week's contest but ultimately took the field and recorded six receptions for 58 yards on 10 targets from quarterback Brock Purdy. It will be important to monitor practice reports throughout the week, but Samuel could certainly carry a questionable tag into the weekend once again. If active, fantasy managers should view Samuel as a fantasy WR2 with upside in a Week 14 bout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (hamstring) is dealing with irritation in his hamstring after Sunday's 33-17 victory over the Dolphins. The 25-year-old is coming off an impressive performance, registering three sacks as part of a dominant day from the 49ers' defense. As the current leader in sacks with 14.5, he's an integral part of their team and one of the most talented players in the NFL at his position. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the injury will be managed throughout the week, meaning it's unlikely he'll miss their Week 14 contest against the Buccaneers.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) isn't dealing with ligament damage to his foot, but he's unlikely to return for a postseason run. "Still going to be a big recovery. There's that way outside chance (of a return) late in the playoffs but just an outside chance. Not real optimistic about it but never rule it out," Shanahan said. Given Garoppolo's injury history, 49ers fans shouldn't expect him to return in the Divisional Round to lead the team to another Super Bowl appearance. With Trey Lance also done for the year, rookie seventh-rounder Brock Purdy will lead the offense moving forward. The good news for Jimmy G is that he doesn't have a Lisfranc injury, so he doesn't need surgery.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) was listed as a limited participant in the team's practice on Wednesday. McCaffrey dealt with the same injury last week but was able to suit up and turn in an excellent performance in a win over the Miami Dolphins. Fantasy managers should monitor practice reports throughout the week, but assuming no setbacks are encountered, McCaffrey will remain a high-end RB1 for a Week 14 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Doctors concluded on Tuesday that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) doesn't need surgery for a Lisfranc injury to his left foot, and if his rehab goes smoothly, he could have a chance to return in seven to eight weeks, according to sources. Garoppolo will now be a potential playoff contributor if the Niners make a deep playoff run. The Divisional Round is seven weeks from the day Garoppolo was injured on Sunday, the Conference Championship game is eight weeks again and the Super Bowl is 10 weeks away. It was previously thought that the 31-year-old would miss the rest of the year, but there's a chance we'll see him again. In the meantime, rookie Brock Purdy will be leading San Fran's offense.
The San Francisco 49ers officially signed free-agent quarterback Josh Johnson on Tuesday to an undisclosed one-year deal. The move comes after starting signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) suffered a serious Lisfranc foot injury in the Week 13 win over the Miami Dolphins. It was initially believed that Jimmy G would be lost for the season, but he will avoid surgery and could be available if the Niners make a deep playoff run. Johnson was signed off the Denver Broncos' practice squad, and it's his fourth stint with San Francisco. Rookie seventh-rounder Brock Purdy will take over the offense with Garoppolo hurt, but if something happens to Purdy as well, Johnson would be forced to make just the 10th NFL start of his career.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) didn't return to Sunday's win over the Dolphins after getting injured in the first quarter, requiring a trip to the locker room on the cart. Unfortunately, the latest update isn't positive, as the signal-caller suffered a broken foot. Even worse, per head coach Kyle Shanahan, he will undergo further testing on Monday and require season-ending surgery. Garoppolo wasn't expected to be on the roster heading into the 2022-23 campaign. However, after Trey Lance (ankle) was lost for the year, the veteran took over under center. A report recently surfaced indicating the 49ers and Garoppolo were open to maintaining their professional relationship next season. But, with the recent development, it's unknown if he'll be back. Nevertheless, rookie Brock Purdy, who finished with 210 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick in Week 13, could remain the No.1 option on the depth chart. At the same time, it's possible the team will explore other options.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (thigh) has made significant progress and now plans to play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Samuel is listed as questionable. He has played in 10 of the 49ers' 11 games this year, catching 44 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns while also maintaining a role in the running game. He ranks as a mid-to-low WR2 this week but could see his value dip even lower if he has limitations or re-injures himself.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be back with the organization next season. It appears both sides are open to the idea of Garoppolo returning to the 49ers in 2023. This is quite a turn around after Garoppolo was on the trade block all offseason long. The organization kept him around after not being able to find a trade partner. Fellow quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) suffered a season-ending injury, which allowed Garoppolo to take over as the starter. The 31-year-old is 6-3 since taking over and the 49ers appear to be playoff bound. The assumption is that Garoppolo will want a multiple year deal after this season. The expectation is that Garoppolo will be out of the 49ers price range, but that remains to be seen. For now, it sounds like the two sides are open to a return.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quad) will play during the Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The star wideout was expected to play, but this report confirms that he'll suit up. The 26-year-old is expected to have his normal workload, so fantasy managers can get him back into their lineups. Fantasy managers should treat Samuel as a mid-range WR2 for this upcoming matchup with Miami.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quad) and tackle Trent Williams (back) are officially active for Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. Samuel has played in 10 of the 49ers' 11 games this year, catching 44 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns while also maintaining a role in the running game. He ranks as a mid-to-low WR2 this week but could see his value dip even lower if he has limitations or re-injures himself. Meanwhile, Williams is considered one of the best linemen in football and should boost the value of all 49ers playmakers on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) is questionable to return to the Week 13 matchup against Miami. The signal-caller completed only two of his four attempts for 56 yards before taking the hit that resulted in a cart ride to the locker room. If he's done for the day, rookie Brock Purdy will remain under center.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) won't return on Sunday versus Miami. The veteran injured his ankle after taking a hit late in the first quarter, resulting in a cart ride to the locker room. Garoppolo finished the day going just 2-for-4 for 56 yards before he was replaced by rookie Brock Purdy, who will be under center for the rest of the game.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been officially placed on the injured reserve. This was expected with it being revealed that Mitchell is likely to miss six-to-eight weeks of action. The 24-year-old will miss at least four games after being placed on the injured reserve. Christian McCaffrey will see an extremely high workload, while Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price pick up the scraps. At this point, it's tough to imagine Mitchell making an impact in the fantasy playoffs. Fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for help with Mitchell out of the picture.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quad) is considered a game-time decision for the Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The star wideout missed Thursday's practice and was limited on Friday. It sounds like Samuel hasn't healed quite as well as the organization was hoping this week. That being said, fantasy managers should make sure to have a backup plan ready in case Samuel does sit out. George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Christian McCaffrey would all see increased workloads if Samuel is out. The 26-year-old should be a strong WR3, assuming he does end up playing on Sunday.
Friday, December 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quadriceps) wasn't seen at practice on Thursday in the portion open to the media. Samuel was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday, so perhaps the Niners are just giving him a veteran's day of rest ahead of their big Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The 26-year-old's status is up in the air, but if he does play this Sunday, he could see more work out of the backfield with running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) out six to eight weeks with another MCL sprain. Samuel hasn't been nearly as productive in fantasy in 2022 as he was last year, but he still checks in as the WR20 in half-point PPR scoring. He'll be facing a Miami defense that has been tough on opposing wideouts in terms of fantasy points in the last three games.
San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Arik Armstead (ankle, foot), who hasn't played since Week 4, told reporters on Thursday that he plans to play in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. In his three games played in 2022, Armstead has five tackles (four solo) and a tackle for loss. The 29-year-old defensive tackle will be an upgrade in the trenches for the Niners, but he could be eased back into the rotation after the long layoff. Armstead put in a limited practice on Thursday. San Fran's defense/special teams unit is typically a top-five fantasy option, but they'll have their work cut out for them against the high-flying offense of the Dolphins this weekend.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) is a must-start if he plays in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. McCaffrey did not practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday. It appears the 49ers are limiting him in order to rest his knee. He is likely to play. His volume had been limited in the past two games, but Elijah Mitchell (knee) is now injured and will miss multiple weeks, so there could be less competition for McCaffrey. Rookie RB Jordan Mason could see some carries, but he is unproven. McCaffrey is such an elite dual-threat playmaker that he can put up big numbers, even on limited volume and even if battling injury. He will have to if the Niners are to compete with the Dolphins.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quadriceps) has a promising matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 13, if he plays. He is officially questionable for Sunday and could be a game-time decision. Samuel missed practice on Thursday but was present for part of practice on Friday. If he plays, it could be a good matchup. Miami has allowed the 11th-most passing yards and the 17th-most total yards per game. They have allowed 100-yard receiving games to five different pass-catchers, including 100 yards on two catches to Jets running back Breece Hall, showing their vulnerability on big plays. Samuel proves his fantasy worth on big plays. He's had four breakaway runs of over 15 yards. In this Week 13 matchup against a high-powered Miami offense, the Niners might try to scheme up some things for Samuel. If he plays, he is a solid start as a WR3.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) was able to get through Thursday's practice session and said he dodged a bullet with his knee issue. CMC said he'll play in full on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. He was able to run at full speed and make catches, so it sounds like the star back is doing well. "I feel great," McCaffrey said. The 49ers are without Elijah Mitchell (knee), so McCaffrey should see a higher usage going forward. It sounds like McCaffrey will suit up this week, so he'll be a must-start for Week 13.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (quad) was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday. The superstar has stayed mostly healthy this season, only missing the Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Samuel was dealing with a hamstring injury in practice last week and appeared to aggravate the injury on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. However, fantasy players shouldn't panic over the receiver's practice status. The fact that he could partake in some part of Wednesday's practice is good news. Unless Samuel earns a did not practice designation tomorrow or Friday, the veteran receiver should be ready to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) will not practice on Wednesday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey "just felt something" in Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints. He added that he's hopeful McCaffrey will be able to play this week against the Miami Dolphins. Given his injury history over the past few years, fantasy players have reason to be concerned with McCaffrey's practice status. However, this could be the 49ers being overly cautious with their superstar running back. If he doesn't practice again tomorrow and Friday, fantasy players should start to worry. With Elijah Mitchell (knee) out the next 6-8 weeks with an MCL sprain, Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason are the next guys up if McCaffrey can't play this week.

The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins to their practice squad on Monday. Jenkins was released by the Tennessee Titans in March and never latched on with another team until now. In 14 games with the Titans in 2021, Jenkins had 54 tackles (38 solo), an interception, six passes defensed and a forced fumble. The 34-year-old will provide veteran depth for the Niners secondary the rest of the season with Jason Verrett (Achilles) and Emmanuel Moseley (knee) done for the year due to injuries. Jenkins was a Pro Bowler in 2016 with the New York Giants, when he had a sack, 49 tackles (44 solo), five tackles for loss, three interceptions, 18 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 15 starts.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) carried the ball seven times for 35 yards in the Niners' 13-0 home win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 12. The 24-year-old also caught two passes for eight yards. He left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury and did not return. While Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said he doesn't think the injury is as bad as the MCL sprain Mitchell suffered in Week 1, any injury brings back bad memories for 49ers fans and fantasy managers. The second-year running back only returned from that injury in Week 10. Monitor Mitchell's status ahead of his Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) didn't return to Sunday's win over the Saints. Fortunately, the 24-year-old may have avoided anything serious, with head coach Kyle Shanahan stating that Mitchell likely sprained his MCL, although it's not the same Knee that forced him to sit out seven games this season. In total, he has missed 15 games throughout his brief career, and it's probable he misses more moving forward. Nonetheless, Mitchell will undergo further testing. However, based on his lack of production during the 2022-23 campaign and the addition of Christian McCaffrey, it won't make much of a difference to fantasy managers if he's not in the lineup.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) suffered an MCL sprain in the Week 12 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and is likely to be out another six to eight weeks. The injury isn't to the same knee that Mitchell sprained in the season opener, but he's still going to miss significant time. The 24-year-old didn't return until Week 9 after his first MCL sprain, and the 49ers think his latest knee injury isn't as severe as the first one. Still, he's droppable in single-year fantasy formats. Christian McCaffrey will remain the team's primary back, with rookies Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price now stepping into bigger roles behind CMC the rest of the way. It's been a disappointing year for Mitchell after he led San Fran's backfield with 963 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 207 carries in his rookie year in 2021.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (knee) is dealing with knee irritation and will be managed during the week. McCaffrey was dealing with knee soreness in the Week 12 win over the New Orleans Saints, when he had 11 carries for 32 yards while catching four of his six targets for 17 yards. Given the 26-year-old's extensive history with lower-body injuries, it makes sense for the Niners to play it safe with him heading into their Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday. With Elijah Mitchell (knee) out six to eight weeks, CMC could see a larger share of the backfield workload moving forward as long as his knee doesn't get in the way. Rookies Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price will battle for backup duties the rest of the way. McCaffrey remains a must-start RB1 in fantasy.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is expected to play against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter. He had been listed as questionable. The 26-year-old continues to be a major threat in the passing and running game. Thus, despite playing in an offense with a plethora of mouths to feed, Samuel should be started in all fantasy leagues.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is officially active for Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints. He had been listed as questionable. The 26-year-old continues to be a major threat in the passing and running game. Thus, despite playing in an offense with a plethora of mouths to feed, Samuel should be started in all fantasy leagues.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against New Orleans because of a knee injury. Mitchell had seven carries for a team-high 35 yards and two catches for eight yards, so he's been relatively productive despite Christian McCaffrey's presence. However, injuries aren't anything new for the 24-year-old, making it possible he could miss time moving ahead.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) won't return to Sunday's game against the Saints. The 24-year-old finished Week 12 with seven carries for 35 yards and two receptions for eight yards, so he was more involved than most had expected. There should be an update on Mitchell's condition soon. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he misses time considering his history.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) remains questionable ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Saints. The wideout didn't play in the Week 8 win over the Rams because of a hamstring injury, leading most to assume he's still dealing with the lingering effects. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update, reporting that Samuel's current hamstring issue is "something different," although he didn't elaborate further. The 26-year-old finished the 2021-22 campaign with 14 total touchdowns. Yet, he only has four in nine games this season. That said, fantasy managers should continue to monitor Samuel's status while remaining optimistic his health doesn't take a turn for the worse. But if he isn't available in Week 12, Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle should remain featured on the offensive end. At the same time, Jauan Jennings, the team's fourth most productive receiving option, could be more involved.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. It's an injury that caused Samuel to sit out in Week 8, so it bears watching heading into Sunday's contest against New Orleans. The 26-year-old was limited in practice this week, so he should be on the right side of questionable, but fantasy managers will have to check back on Samuel before Sunday's inactives are released. Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud II and rookie Danny Gray would be asked to step up behind Brandon Aiyuk and tight end George Kittle if Samuel doesn't get the green light. Samuel caught seven of nine targets for 57 yards and carried the ball three times for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Week 11 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He'll be a strong WR2 for fantasy managers if he plays.
Thursday, November 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he thinks that quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) is "right on schedule with everything" in his recovery from a broken right ankle he suffered in Week 2. However, the Niners don't expect him back for the playoffs. San Francisco was expected to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this year after naming Lance the starter going into the 2022 campaign, but they ended up keeping Jimmy G, so the Niners could have a tough decision heading into next year with Garoppolo set for free agency and Lance going into his third year. Lance, a first-rounder in 2021, has ditched crutches and a walking boot and should be ready for the start of next season, but it remains to be seen if the 49ers are fully committed to him.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) was limited during Thursday's practice. The 26-year-old was also limited on Wednesday, so fantasy managers should monitor his status during Friday's practice. Fantasy managers should expect Samuel to suit up for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. He should be considered low-end WR1 for this upcoming matchup. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday to see if his status changes.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been activated from injured reserve. He is expected to be active Sunday, serving as Christian McCaffrey's backup. The 24-year-old rushed six times for 41 yards back in Week 1 before exiting due to injury. Although he won't be the featured back in San Francisco's offense, Mitchell will likely be used in a change-of-pace role, making him an RB4 in fantasy football.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) will be activated from Injured Reserve before the Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. Mitchell led the Niners in rushing in 2021 as a rookie and entered the 2022 campaign as their lead back, but it didn't last long after he was injured in the season opener. Now with Christian McCaffrey as San Fran's leading rusher out of the backfield, Mitchell will be returning to a change-of-pace role, which will give him a very low fantasy ceiling and floor on a weekly basis. The 24-year-old went from being a must-start fantasy RB in Week 1 to basically only a handcuff option for CMC now. He shouldn't be trusted in starting lineups this weekend.
Friday, November 11
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett (Achilles) suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in practice on Wednesday and is out for the rest of the season. The former first-rounder in 2014 by the Chargers has had the worst injury luck. He was a Pro Bowler in his second year in the league in 2015, but he's played in double-digit games in just two seasons and he had yet to take the field in 2022 after tearing his right ACL in Week 1 of last year. The 31-year-old has played in just 15 games for the 49ers since joining them in 2019. It's been one serious injury after another for Verrett in his career, and he'll be looking for a new home after he rehabs his torn Achilles in 2023. The 49ers secondary has also lost Emmanuel Mosley (knee) for the year.
San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Jauan Jennings (hamstring) and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger) were all removed from the final Week 10 injury report and will play on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers. The 49ers were able to get healthy during their Week 9 bye. Samuel was unable to play in Week 8, but he'll return for a nice matchup against the porous Chargers defense. The 26-year-old remains a must-start WR2 in fantasy, but running back Christian McCaffrey's presence and the return of RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) this weekend could hurt Samuel's chances for a high target share. In his seven games in 2022, Samuel has 56 touches for 515 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Jauan Jennings (hamstring) and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger) all practiced in full on Wednesday. Samuel missed Week 8 but had the bye to heal up in Week 9, so he appears to be on track to play in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. We probably won't see much more of the 26-year-old as a runner out of the backfield with Christian McCaffrey now in town, but Samuel should still be an enticing WR2 with perhaps more touchdown potential in an improved offense. The Sunday night game could make Samuel a bit sketchy if he's listed as questionable this week, but the full practice on Wednesday is a good sign for his availability.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) returned to practice on Monday after missing his team's last game back in Week 8. Samuel appears to be over the hamstring issue that kept him out of action two weeks ago, aided by a bye in Week 9. He will look to get back in on the action against the Los Angeles Chargers at home in Week 10. The Chargers are allowing the 20th-most fantasy points per game to the wide receiver position in 2022, setting up a neutral matchup for Samuel. The veteran receiver checks in as a midrange WR2 in fantasy and is a must-start, provided that he does suit up for Week 10.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) was seen on the practice field on Monday. Samuel was held out of the Week 8 game due to his hamstring, but he had the Week 8 bye to rest up. We'll have a better idea of his status heading into Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers once the official practice report surfaces on Wednesday, but it's a good sign that he's doing something early this week. The 26-year-old was the best fantasy wideout not named Cooper Kupp in 2021, but he has disappointed so far in 2022 with 32 catches (54 targets) for 387 yards and two touchdowns in seven games. The addition of do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey probably isn't great news for Samuel's fantasy outlook the rest of the way, either.

The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent wide receiver Tajae Sharpe to their practice squad on Monday, according to a source. The six-year veteran worked out for the 49ers last week and had 25 catches on 37 targets for 230 yards and no touchdowns in 15 games (seven starts) for the Atlanta Falcons last year. In his five years in the NFL, Sharpe has 117 receptions on 205 targets for 1,397 yards and eight touchdowns in 66 games played. The 27-year-old can continue to be left on the waiver wire in all leagues as he serves as receiving depth for the Niners behind Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud III and rookie Danny Gray.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) hasn't played since Week 1, but the team has designated him to return from injured reserve, so his return to the field will come soon. However, Christian McCaffrey has been added to the backfield mix, so Mitchell's rest-of-season outlook is likely a mere flex play with a low floor. He'll be involved in the offense, but his receiving upside is low and it's tough to pencil him in for goal line touches. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, but if McCaffrey stays healthy, Mitchell will be far from a workhorse back and far from an RB1 in fantasy football.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch didn't shoot down the idea of pursuing free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (knee), who continues to rehab from a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl in February. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has long been an admirer of Beckham, who is hoping to sign with a team once he's healthy at some point in December. "Look, we never say no," Lynch said. "We're always looking to get better. And it's a rarity when you have a player of that ilk and some other names out there that still might be available. And we always will look." The Niners are on bye in Week 9 but resume their season next weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers. Beckham showed last year that he can help carry a team in the postseason, but it remains to be seen how effective he'll be in 2022 coming off a serious knee injury.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. He had been a solid contributor for the first seven weeks, amassing 14 catches and 180 yards. With both Jennings and Deebo Samuel (hamstring) sidelined, Brandon Aiyuk and Ray-Ray McCloud rank as the Niners' top wide receivers. However, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey will also get involved in the passing game.
Saturday, October 29
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly receiving calls inquiring about the availability of running back Jeff Wilson Jr. The 49ers acquired superstar Christian McCaffrey ahead of Week 7, and with Elijah Mitchell (knee) expected to return within the next few weeks, Wilson is likely to be the odd man out in San Francisco. Wilson has proven to be effective when healthy, so it does not come as a surprise that teams around the league are interested in his services. Fantasy managers should try to hold on to Wilson through the league's November first deadline as a trade could greatly improve his rest-of-season outlook.
Friday, October 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger) have been ruled out for the Week 8 game against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hamstring) is also questionable, so San Fran's receiving corps could be very thin against a tough opponent on Sunday. Samuel didn't practice all week and will have next week's bye to heal up before attempting to return in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Brandon Aiyuk, Ray-Ray McCloud III and rookie Danny Gray could be the team's top three receivers if Jennings is also inactive. Tight end George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey will probably soak up more targets as well.
Thursday, October 27
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Jauan Jennings (hamstring) were both not seen at practice on Thursday for the second straight day this week. It's bad news for both receivers, unless they are able to at least get in a limited form of practice on Friday. If neither Samuel nor Jennings are cleared to face the division-rival Los Angeles Rams in Week 8, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Ray-Ray McCloud III and rookie Danny Gray would all have elevated roles in the Niners' passing game this weekend. While Samuel remains a must-start fantasy commodity every time he's on the field, the addition of pass-catching running back Christian McCaffrey could hurt his overall upside the rest of the season.
Wednesday, October 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday after picking up a hamstring injury in the Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He's currently being listed as day-to-day after playing 86 percent of the offensive snaps in Sunday's blowout loss. We should have a better idea of the 26-year-old's status later in the week, but if he's unable to play this weekend against the Los Angeles Rams, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud III would be the team's top three pass-catchers, alongside tight end George Kittle. Running back Christian McCaffrey will surely be more involved in the passing game after being limited in his debut with the team last week.
Tuesday, October 25
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger) had surgery on his broken right finger on Monday and is expected to miss the Week 8 contest versus the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. Juszczyk suffered the broken finger in the Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he was able to finish out the game. He'll likely miss this weekend's game, but then the Niners have their bye in Week 9, so there's a chance that the fullback will be ready to play in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The absence of Juszczyk will be a slight downgrade for running backs Christian McCaffrey and Jeff Wilson Jr. in Week 8 in a tough matchup against the Rams D. The 31-year-old Juszczyk isn't fantasy relevant with 11 catches on 15 targets for 153 yards and no touchdowns through seven games.
San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman was released by the organization on Tuesday. This shouldn't come as a surprise after the recent addition of Christian McCaffrey. Coleman had 12 rushing attempts for 26 yards and one touchdown in four games with the 49ers. The 29-year-old has put together some fairly productive seasons in the past. Coleman should be able to find himself another landing spot. However, his fantasy value will depend on his role, which likely won't be significant.
Monday, October 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is being considered day-to-day after suffering a hamstring strain in the Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Samuel played 86 percent of the offensive snaps on Sunday but caught just five passes for 42 yards on seven targets in the blowout loss. We'll have to monitor Samuel's practice status this week before determining if he'll be available in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams. The 26-year-old's fantasy value probably takes a hit with running back Christian McCaffrey now in town, but the main focus for fantasy managers right now is on his health. If Samuel needs more time to heal up and can't play this weekend, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud III and perhaps even rookie Danny Gray would have bigger roles in the passing attack.
Saturday, October 22
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (groin) isn't listed on the team's latest injury report heading into the Week 7 matchup versus the Chiefs, meaning he will suit up. The 24-year-old didn't play in the Niners' previous game against the Atlanta Falcons, a tough blow for IDP managers, especially considering he's already amassed six sacks this season. San Fran will also get offensive tackle Trent Williams (ankle) back after he missed three games because of a high-ankle sprain, which is certainly good news for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Friday, October 21
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) thinks he will play in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Williams has returned to practice this week after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 3. The 34-year-old veteran is trending in the right direction, but he's still not a lock to return this Sunday to protect quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's blind side against the Chiefs. If Williams returns this weekend, it will be great news for the Niners offense as a whole, especially for Garoppolo as they look to rebound from a loss last week to the Atlanta Falcons.
The San Francisco 49ers acquired Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night in exchange for undisclosed draft picks, according to sources. McCaffrey will return to the Bay Area, where he played at Stanford in college. McCaffrey will take over as the lead back in San Francisco, basically rendering Jeff Wilson Jr. useless for fantasy purposes moving forward. CMC will join a better offense and should become more attractive in fantasy. He entered Week 7 as the No. 4 RB in half-point PPR leagues with 85 carries for 393 yards and two touchdowns while adding 33 catches for 277 yards and another score. Back in Carolina, D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard should split backfield duties for a rebuilding Panthers team.
Thursday, October 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (groin) returned to practice on Wednesday and was listed as a limited participant. Bosa missed the Week 6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but the fact that he was back at practice on a Wednesday is a good sign that he'll have a chance to return to action this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 24-year-old All-Pro pass-rusher said himself that he's optimistic about playing in Week 7. Fantasy managers in IDP leagues need to have a backup plan in place, but if Bosa is active, he's a must-start defensive lineman. Through five games this year, he has 15 tackles (12 solo), six tackles for loss, 16 QB hits and six sacks.
Sunday, October 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (groin) and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (calf) have been ruled out for the remainder of Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. Ward has amassed 28 tackles and one pick this season while McGlinchey has played a key role in protecting Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers' skill players.
Friday, October 14
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (groin) did not practice on Thursday for the second day in a row. The 24-year-old hasn't practiced since injuring his groin in last Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers. He will have one more chance to practice to have a shot at suiting up for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. Bosa has 15 tackles and six sacks over five weeks in 2022. Charles Omenihu would see an uptick in snaps if Bosa is inactive against the Falcons.
San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould is not on the team's injury report for the Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons, so he'll be starting just a week after suffering a knee contusion. Sam Sloman was brought in just in case, but Gould can be inserted into fantasy lineups in a game in which the 49ers should have plenty of scoring opportunities.
Thursday, October 13
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould (knee) was able to fully practice on Thursday. The 39-year-old missed Wednesday's practice, but it sounds like he is making progress now. The 49ers did bring in Sam Sloman as insurance in case Gould is unable to play in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. The team might take the cautious approach here and rest Gould, but fantasy managers will have to wait and see. Gould could very well return this week, assuming he has another good practice session on Friday.
Wednesday, October 12
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman has been promoted to the active roster. In a corresponding move, the team also re-signed Marlon Mack to their practice squad. The veteran running back recently spent time on the team's practice squad but found himself active for last week's 37-15 win over the Carolina Panthers. Coleman took advantage of the opportunity, rushing for 23 yards on eight attempts and found the end zone twice. With Elijah Mitchell (knee) out for another few weeks, the 49ers wisely added Coleman to their active roster. The veteran running back is worth adding in deeper leagues, especially given Jeff Wilson Jr.'s injury history.
San Francisco 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) took part in practice on Wednesday for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain in the 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. When he suffered the injury, reports were that Davis-Price would miss 4-6 weeks, so it's no surprise the rookie is back at practice. However, he has only 14 rushing attempts for 33 yards this season, and his status for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons is still to be determined. However, Davis-Price has a chance to carve out a role in the San Francisco backfield, with Elijah Mitchell (knee) expected to miss another few weeks.
Tuesday, October 11
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould (knee) is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Wednesday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 39-year-old exited Sunday's game with a knee contusion after making a tackle on a kickoff. It sounds like the team plans to workout kickers on Tuesday. Gould is unlikely going to be ready for Week 6, so the organization is planning ahead of time. Fantasy managers should know more about Gould's status later in the week.
The San Francisco 49ers released running back Marlon Mack on Tuesday and signed defensive tackle T.Y. McGill to their practice squad in a corresponding move. Mack began the year with the Houston Texans but landed with San Francisco after being waived. He was active in just two games for the Niners but only played five special teams snaps before being released on Tuesday. There's a chance that he could return to the team on the practice squad if he doesn't attract any interest on the open market. Jeff Wilson Jr. remains the team's lead back, with Jordan Mason backing him up. Rookie Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) could return to practice this week and could join the backfield mix as soon as Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.
The San Francisco 49ers have added kicker Samuel Sloman to their practice squad. This doesn't come as a shock with Robbie Gould (knee) uncertain for Week 6. The 49ers want to add insurance in case Gould is unable to go. Sloman hasn't played this season but knocked down 11 of 13 field-goal attempts for the Rams and Titans last season. The 25-year-old could have some streaming appeal for fantasy managers in need of a kicker this week if Gould cannot go. However, they should double check later in the week to make sure Gould is out before committing to Sloman.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (knee) is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in the team's Week 5 victory over the Carolina Panthers. The 26-year-old had an excellent game before going down late in the fourth quarter. He returned an interception off Baker Mayfield for a 41-yard touchdown that gave San Francisco a 17-3 lead heading into halftime. Tests on Monday will confirm the severity of Moseley's injury, but this is likely a devastating loss for a 49ers defense that also saw Nick Bosa (groin) and Jimmie Ward (hand) exit early on Sunday.
An MRI exam confirmed that San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (knee) suffered a torn left ACL in the Week 5 win over the Carolina Panthers. He'll have season-ending surgery on his knee, according to a source. The 26-year-old was using crutches after the game on Sunday and wasn't able to put any weight on his leg. In his five games played with San Francisco this year, Moseley had 21 tackles (18 solo), an interception returned for a touchdown and five passes defensed for the Niners secondary.
Sunday, October 09
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (groin) will not return to Sunday's game versus the Carolina Panthers. Bosa's ailment was a mystery for a bit, as the veteran was seen on the sideline without his helmet while visibly frustrated. The 24-year-old, who had six sacks entering Week 5, finished his day with one total tackle. Hopefully, for IDP managers, Bosa's injury won't keep him out for the Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould (knee) won't return to Sunday's matchup against the Carolina Panthers. It's unknown how severe his current knee issue is, although it is apparently bad enough for the team to rely on punter Mitch Wishnowsky for the remainder of Week 5. Before going down, Gould made his only kick, a 25-yarder in the third quarter while connecting on an extra-point attempt. Fantasy managers should monitor the veteran's status ahead of the Week 6 showdown against Atlanta. However, managers are urged to begin planning now in case Gould can't give it a go.
Saturday, October 08
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) has been ruled out for the team's Week 5 bout with the Carolina Panthers. The rookie suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 2 and will be sidelined for a third consecutive contest. In his absence, Jordan Mason will continue to backup Jeff Wilson Jr., but is only a handcuff with Wilson dominating snaps and touches out of San Francisco's backfield.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) has been ruled out ahead of the team's Week 5 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Kroft sustained a sprained MCL in Week 2 and has not played since. George Kittle will continue to get the bulk of the tight end snaps and targets with Ross Dwelley operating in a backup role.
The San Francisco 49ers activated defensive back Jimmie Ward to their active roster ahead of a Week 5 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. The 31-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in August and was placed on Injured Reserve, forcing him to miss the first four games of the season. Ward has finished top-three on the 49ers in tackles in each of the past three seasons and led the team in interceptions with two in 2021. He figures to be a great addition to what has already been a stout defense to begin the 2022 campaign.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) suffered a sprained MCL in Monday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams. McKivitz had been filling in for Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams, who has a high-ankle sprain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that McKivitz is going to be "out a while" following the injury. The 49ers are now down to their third left tackle of the season, Jaylon Moore, who will be asked to cover quarterabck Jimmy Garoppolo's blind side, starting in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.
Tuesday, October 04
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers left tackle Colton McKivitz (knee), who was filling in for All-Pro Trent Williams (ankle), is out for the rest of the Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury. Jaylon Moore is now filling in, with Blake Hance on deck. When Moore was forced to enter last Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, the Broncos defense destroyed the Niners' offensive line and came after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. San Francisco might have to devote some more help to Moore on Garoppolo's blind side for the rest of this Week 4 game to avoid something similar happening against the Rams strong defense.
San Francisco 49ers star defensive lineman Arik Armstead (foot), who came into the Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams questionable with his foot injury, aggravated his foot injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game in the fourth quarter. The 28-year-old has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot, and on a short week heading into Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers, Armstead might have a tough time getting cleared to play. With Armstead and Javon Kinlaw (knee) injured on the interior of the 49ers defensive line, backups Kevin Givens and Hassan Ridgeway have been pressed into more playing time on Monday against LA.
Monday, October 03
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Danny Gray (hip) and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) are both officially inactive on Monday night against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. The Niners also placed linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) on Injured Reserve. Tight end Ross Dwelley (rib) and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot), who were questionable, are officially active. Gray wasn't able to practice all week and came into this one doubtful to play. Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk will continue to work as the team's top pass-catchers, as well as tight end George Kittle. Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud will battle for scraps against a tough Rams defense Monday night.
The San Francisco 49ers promoted wide receivers Willie Snead IV and Malik Turner and running back Tevin Coleman from the practice squad to the active roster for Monday night's game against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. Snead and Turner will be battling for a depth role among the likes of Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk on Monday night. Meanwhile, Coleman will provide depth to a banged-up Niners backfield with Elijah Mitchell (knee) on Injured Reserve and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) out for another week. Jeff Wilson Jr. will remain the team's primary back against the Rams, with rookie Jordan Mason and Marlon Mack behind him.
Sunday, October 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) won't play on Monday night against the Rams. The 29-year-old has been plagued by an MCL sprain, an injury that held him out of the Week 3 meeting with the Broncos. With Ross Dwelley (rib) questionable, George Kittle and Charlie Woerner may be the only healthy tight ends on the roster. Of course, the former will do most of the heavy lifting in Week 4, regardless of who else is active behind him on the depth chart.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley (rib) is questionable for the Monday Night Football showdown against the Rams. Tyler Kroft (knee) has already been ruled out with an MCL sprain, his second consecutive absence. As a result, the Niners may be down to George Kittle and Charlie Woerner to handle things at the tight end position. With that said, no matter who is available, Kittle is by far the No. 1 guy for fantasy purposes.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Danny Gray (hip) is doubtful for the Monday night divisional meeting with the Los Angeles Rams. The 2022 third-round pick hasn't practiced all week as he tends to a hip issue. With that said, Gray has only been targeted twice in his two games this season, so even if he's active, he's not someone who should be in any fantasy lineup.
San Francisco 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) has been ruled out for the Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. This marks his second game in a row that he's forced to miss due to a high-ankle sprain. The expectation is that Jeff Wilson Jr. will continue being the lead back in San Francisco. He played 73% of the offensive snaps during Week 3. Wilson should be considered a low-end RB2 for this upcoming matchup. Jordan Mason is expected to back him up, but won't have much value with Wilson playing over 70% of the snaps.
Tuesday, September 27
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 3 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night and will be out "some time," according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The head coach said it could be four to six weeks, but the team won't know for sure until the swelling goes down in his ankle. The 34-year-old's injury is a huge blow for San Fran's offensive line and their offense as a whole, as Denver's D wrecked the game for the Niners late in the second half once Williams departed the contest. Colton McKivitz is expected to get the start in Week 4 against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could see a ton of pressure in that one.
Monday, September 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the Sunday night contest against the Denver Broncos due to an ankle injury that he suffered in the third quarter. The 34-year-old had his leg rolled up on, but the good news is he refused a cart and walked off the field under his own power. It's bad news for the 49ers offense the rest of this game and moving forward if Williams misses any time. Jaylon Moore initially took over at left tackle after Williams was injured, but then Colton McKivitz entered the game. We should know more about the severity of Williams' injury on Monday.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) likely suffered a high-ankle sprain when he was injured in the second half of the team's 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. Williams refused to be taken off the field on a cart and limped off the field instead. If he indeed has a high-ankle sprain, he will miss some time as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's blind-side protector. Williams is regarded as the best left tackle in the NFL, and the Broncos defense smothered Garoppolo with pressure with the game on the line late in the fourth quarter with Williams out of the game. Jimmy G could be running for his life more often moving forward without Williams, starting in a Week 4 divisional matchup with the Super Bowl-champion Los Angeles Rams.
Sunday, September 25
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) has a timetable of four to six months after he broke his fibula and tore the deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle. The expectation is that Lance won't return this season. However, the 49ers remain committed to Lance as the future of the team under center. At the moment, Jimmy Garoppolo will start under center and is a capable option for this offense. The upside is certainly there with Lance. Dynasty fantasy managers should ride this out because it could pay off in the end. However, fantasy managers in re-draft leagues can probably safely drop Lance for an active quarterback.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) won't play on Sunday night against the Broncos. The 29-year-old is dealing with a sprained MCL, although he has done little for fantasy managers this season, compiling only one catch for nine yards. George Kittle (groin) will finally suit up for the first time this year, so Kroft wasn't projected to contribute, anyway.
San Francisco 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) is officially inactive for Sunday's meeting with the Broncos. The rookie has a high-ankle sprain, which he suffered in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. This specific injury can keep a player out for weeks, and with Elijah Mitchell (knee) also out of the mix, expect Jeff Wilson Jr. to be the primary ball-carrier for the foreseeable future. Deebo Samuel may also get additional work out of the backfield, while Jordan Mason should be viewed as a desperation play for needy fantasy managers in deep formats.
Friday, September 23
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) got in another limited practice on Thursday. Kittle was looking much better at the end of last week before missing his second straight game to open up the season, but he's been limited so far this week and is trending in the right direction to make his 2022 season debut on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos. The 28-year-old will still be a shaky fantasy play this weekend if he's truly questionable for Sunday night, but we should have a better idea on whether he'll actually play in the next few days. Tyler Kroft (knee) is set to miss a few weeks with a sprained MCL, so if Kittle misses a third straight game, it will be Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner stepping into bigger roles at the position.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) was removed from the injury report this week and will make his season debut on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos in Week 3, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Kittle was limited the first two days of the week before being a full-go on Friday. The last time he faced Denver, Kittle had seven catches for 210 yards and a touchdown in 2018. The 28-year-old will be working with old friend Jimmy Garoppolo, who is now back as the team's starter after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending broken ankle last week. Kittle might need to shake off some rust on Sunday night, but fantasy managers that have him rostered should slide him back into their starting lineups.
Wednesday, September 21
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran running back Tevin Coleman to their practice squad. Coleman, who was most recently a member of the New York Jets, previously played for head coach Kyle Shanahan on both the 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator. The team also elevated Marlon Mack to its active roster on Tuesday, so Coleman is likely just a depth signing given the injuries sustained by San Francisco's running back room. Jeff Wilson Jr. and Jordan Mason are expected to handle the majority of the work until Elijah Mitchell (knee) and Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) return.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) was listed as a limited participant in the team's practice on Wednesday. Kittle has been unable to take the field yet this season, but was "close to playing" in Week 2 according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers are reportedly optimistic that they will have their star tight end back for their Week 3 matchup with the Denver Broncos. If he is able to progress throughout the week and suits up on Sunday night, he will be a high-end TE1 and must be started in fantasy lineups.
Tuesday, September 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. He was injured mid-way through the Week 2 contest against the Seattle Seahawks. The organization is calling the injury a sprained MCL, so Kroft is likely going to miss some time. Luckily, George Kittle (groin) is making solid progress, so hopefully he can return soon. Possibly, Kittle is able to suit up for Week 3, but that remains to be seen. Otherwise, Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley will handle the tight end duties in San Francisco.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) missed his second consecutive game to open the season on Sunday against the Seahawks. While this is not how anyone hoped he would begin the year, it sounds like he may be nearing a return. Head coach Kyle Shanahan described him as "close to playing" on Sunday, emphasizing that the decision to rest him will get him healthier for Week 3 against the Broncos. The 49ers had to switch to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday because of the season-ending injury that Trey Lance (ankle) suffered. The change of signal-callers should generate more passing attempts, which could mean more fantasy points available for Kittle and Co. if he can suit up this Sunday against the Broncos. We'll monitor practice reports again this week, but the 28-year-old will be a must-start for fantasy football if he's active.
Monday, September 19
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers and linebacker Dre Greenlaw have agreed on a two-year contract extension on Sunday. Greenlaw was set to enter unrestricted free agency next offseason but instead will stay in San Francisco after posting 13 total tackles through the first two weeks of the new season. Greenlaw was drafted by the 49ers in 2019 and immediately became a pivotal member of their defense. The team will hope that he can stay healthy, as he struggled with injuries in 2020 and 2021, but he has been very productive when on the field.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) had successful surgery on Monday morning for a fractured and dislocated ankle, according to a source. The good news is he avoided a compound fracture like Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's a few years ago. Lance will still miss the rest of the 2022 season after getting injured early in the Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The 22-year-old officially suffered a fractured fibula and ligament disruption to his right ankle. The Niners are confident that he'll recover and be ready for the 2023 campaign. In the meantime, San Francisco is happy they ended up hanging onto Jimmy Garoppolo, as he'll return to starting duties the rest of the way. Fantasy managers in need of a QB upgrade in two-QB leagues should absolutely look at picking Jimmy G up off waivers this week.
San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) will be out a few weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in the Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks. In the first game without Elijah Mitchell (knee), Davis-Price played 39 percent of the offensive snaps behind starter Jeff Wilson Jr. and carried the ball 14 times for 33 yards in his NFL debut. It makes his injury all the more frustrating for fantasy managers that had picked him up off the waiver wire after Mitchell's injury in the season opener. Fellow rookie Jordan Mason didn't see any touches on Sunday, but he should move up to the No. 2 back for a Week 3 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. Wilson should continue to be the Niners' undisputed lead back until Mitchell returns.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) suffered a sprained MCL in the Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks and will miss a few weeks. Kroft started the first two games of the season for the Niners with starter George Kittle (groin) inactive, but he produced just one catch on two targets for nine yards in the first two games. He wasn't targeted at all on Sunday. San Francisco will be hoping that Kittle can play in Week 3 on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos. If not, they'll be forced to use Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner at the tight end position. For what it's worth, Dwelley caught his only target against Seattle for a 38-yard touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is not expected to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. Although Kittle was listed as questionable and reportedly looked great at practice on Friday, his season debut will have to wait one more week. The 49ers will proceed with some combination of Tyler Kroft, Ross Dwelley, and Charlie Woerner, none of whom are worth rostering in fantasy football. Look beyond the 49ers' offense if you are in need of a streaming tight end this week.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is officially inactive for Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. Although Kittle was listed as questionable and reportedly looked great at practice on Friday, his season debut will have to wait one more week. Tyler Kroft, Ross Dwelley, and Charlie Woerner will see increased snaps in his absence, but none of them are worth rostering in fantasy football this week.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) will not return to Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The signal-caller suffered an ankle injury early in the contest, requiring his leg to be placed in an air cast before leaving the field on a cart. Although there could be a positive update regarding Lance's condition, things aren't looking good, so fantasy managers should prepare for the worst. With that said, Jimmy Garoppolo is in under center and will likely remain the team's starter while Lance is out.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Tyler Kroft (knee) won't return to Sunday's contest versus the Seattle Seahawks. The team was already down Trey Lance (ankle), who was carted off the field in the first quarter. Now, the Niners could be without one of its blockers moving ahead, although it won't mean much for fantasy managers if Kroft misses time.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) was carted off the field early during the Week 2 matchup against Seattle due to an ankle injury. Most were hoping for good news. However, the update isn't good, with NFL insider Adam Schefter reporting the team believes the signal-caller suffered a "significant ankle injury." As a result, Lance is expected to undergo surgery, likely ending his season. The 22-year-old was named the Niners' starter in the offseason and was projected to take a step forward in his progression. Yet, now that he's presumably done for the year, the team will likely turn to a familiar face in Jimmy Garoppolo, who may be under center for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is officially questionable to play in Week 2 against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Kittle looked "awesome" in his return to practice on Friday. Kittle was officially limited on Friday after missing both Wednesday and Thursday. The 28-year-old didn't practice at all last week before he was inactive in the season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears. He'll still be a game-time decision in the later slate of games on Sunday, so fantasy managers must have a backup plan in place in case he's inactive for the second straight game. Tyler Kroft saw the most playing time of the team's tight ends with Kittle out last week, but he's not a realistic streamer if Kittle misses another game.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is not expected to play in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. He has been unable to practice this week and is expected to miss his second straight game due to a groin injury. "Hopefully, we'll have better luck this week," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Kittle. "Made a lot of progress." The 28-year-old hasn't officially been ruled out, but fantasy managers with Kittle should look for a streaming option in Week 2. Tyler Kroft and Ross Dwelley should continue to see an increase in snaps with Kittle sidelined, but neither tight end is a good fantasy option against the Seahawks.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is expected to be a game-time decision in Week 2 against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. "With a player like George, you wait right up until game time. . . . We'll hold out hope that George is ready," general manager John Lynch. Kittle suffered a groin injury last Monday and hasn't practiced since while also sitting out the Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears. Fantasy managers should have already made plans to be without the 28-year-old for the second straight week. Tyler Kroft played 55 percent of the snaps last week in Kittle's absence, but he only caught one pass for nine yards. Making things more difficult for Kittle's managers is the fact that the Niners don't play an early game on Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Willie Snead to their practice squad on Wednesday. Snead will return to the team's practice squad after he was released by the team at the beginning of August. The 29-year-old veteran pass-catcher played in nine games with the Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, catching only four of eight targets for 38 scoreless yards. Snead will merely be serving as wideout depth in San Francisco behind Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, rookie Danny Gray and Ray-Ray McCloud III. He's well off the fantasy radar.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice for the second straight day this week. Kittle injured his groin last Monday and hasn't practiced or played since. The 28-year-old will almost certainly have to get back on the practice field on Friday in order to have any shot at making his 2022 regular season debut in Week 2 against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. With Kittle out in the Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, Tyler Kroft saw 55 percent of the offensive snaps but caught just one of his two targets for a nine-yard gain. Ross Dwelley played just 27.9 percent of the team's 68 snaps. If Kittle misses his second straight game, fantasy managers should look to avoid the TE situation in San Fran.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the team on Tuesday. Mitchell sprained his MCL during Week 1's loss to the Chicago Bears and is expected to need at least eight weeks to recover from the injury. Look for the 49ers to lean on veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. while also getting rookies Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price involved. Wilson becomes the back to roster in San Francisco while Mitchell is out.
The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent running back Marlon Mack to their practice squad on Monday. Mack was released by the Houston Texans last week and will now provide some depth for a 49ers team that lost Elijah Mitchell to injury for at least two months. Mack will start out behind Jeff Wilson Jr., Jordan Mason, and Tyrion Davis-Price, who are all on the active roster, but he could be elevated from the practice squad if there's another injury ahead of him. Mack is worth monitoring in fantasy moving forward but he can stay on waivers for now.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) was sidelined in practice on Wednesday after missing Week 1 with a groin injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said "hopefully, we'll have better luck this week" in regards to Kittle's availability to play on Sunday. Fantasy managers should closely monitor practice reports on Thursday and Friday, as Kittle should have a shot to suit up if he becomes a limited or full participant. Still, it would be wise to have an alternative option prepared in case he is unable to play in Week 2's divisional showdown against the Seattle Seahawks.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) missed Sunday's game against the Bears. The team seemed optimistic that the 28-year-old would suit up, further evidenced by head coach Kyle Shanahan's comment about his availability, "that's why he made the trip." Although he did not play in Week 1, there is hope for a Week 2 return, beginning with practice on Wednesday. Shanahan again discussed his outlook, "I hope he's ready to go (practice) Wednesday, but we're not sure yet." The former All-Pro is a focal point of the 49ers' offense, contributing in all facets of the game. Fantasy managers are wise to have an alternative option for Kittle again in Week 2, with more information expected after practice on Wednesday.
The San Francisco 49ers are in search of more depth at the running back position. They recently lost Elijah Mitchell (knee) who is expected to miss roughly two months of action. That being said, the 49ers want to add some depth behind Jeff Wilson Jr. on their roster. On Tuesday, they worked out Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Nate McCrary, Abram Smith, La'Mical Perine, Godwin Igwebuike, and Marlon Mack. Whoever does win the job could have some low-end value while Mitchell recovers. Fantasy managers will have to check back after the 49ers decide which back they want to sign.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) was seen wearing a "substantial" right leg brace after suffering an injury in Week 1. Fortunately, he was not on crutches, and head coach Kyle Shanahan initially said that there was hope Mitchell could have returned on Sunday. Either way, Mitchell struggled with injuries as a rookie and only played in 11 games, so it is not a good sign that he went down so early in 2022. Fantasy managers should pay close attention and wait to hear the severity of his injury, but Jeff Wilson Jr. appears to be the next man up if Mitchell is forced to miss time.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell will undergo an MRI on his knee to determine the extent of his injury, but he's expected to miss at least a few games moving forward. The obvious waiver wire pickup is Jeff Wilson Jr., who will lead the 49ers' backfield. Behind Wilson, Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason are the next two guys on the depth chart. However, Deebo Samuel may take a lot of the rushing work, so this could be a tricky backfield to figure out in the wake of Mitchell's injury. Both Davis-Price and Mason are worth taking a flyer on in deep leagues. Wilson is the top waiver priority for Week 2 heading into a matchup with Seattle, who will be on a short week.
Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) is expected to be sidelined for around two months with the sprained MCL that he suffered in the Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, according to league sources. Well, that didn't take long. After leading the Niners in rushing as a rookie in 2021, the 24-year-old will now miss significant time to open the 2022 campaign. He should be stashed everywhere. Rookie Jordan Mason has no touches and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price was a healthy scratch on Sunday, but they're both worth speculative waiver claims if you have Mitchell rostered or are in need of another RB. Quarterback Trey Lance led the team with 13 carries in Week 1, while receiver Deebo Samuel was second with eight. Jeff Wilson Jr. entered the year as the primary backup to Mitchell, so he should become their No. 1 moving forward. Prioritize Wilson, who is rostered in only 16% of Yahoo leagues, over Davis-Price or Mason on the waiver wire.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) will miss roughly eight weeks with an MCL sprain that he suffered in the second quarter of the Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears. Mitchell won't need surgery, but he was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday. Jeff Wilson Jr. becomes the team's top back, while rookies Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason will compete in practices for the No. 2 role. Mason had the edge in the season opener with Davis-Price being a healthy inactive, but that could change in the coming weeks. For now, Wilson should become a priority waiver-wire add in all fantasy leagues. He's currently rostered in only 17 percent of Yahoo leagues.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is expected to miss the Week 1 opener versus the Bears. The veteran was hoping to be out there on Sunday, so he has been riding a questionable tag. However, the ailment is severe enough to keep him off the field. Nevertheless, the team has Charlie Woerner, Tyler Kroft, and Ross Dwelley on the depth chart. But it's anyone's guess who will benefit from the trio. With the Niners next hosting the Seahawks in Week 2, Kittle may be back, although managers should start planning for a replacement well in advance.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) has been officially ruled out for the Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. He suffered a groin injury in practice and it sounds like it's going to cost him time. Hopefully, Kittle will be able to play next week, but that will be determined later in the week. For now, Tyler Kroft is expected to be the primary tight end in San Francisco. There won't be much streaming appeal here, so fantasy managers can look for a better streaming option.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's season opener against the Chicago Bears. He rushed six times for 41 yards before exiting. Jeff Wilson and Jordan Mason will round out the backfield for the remainder of the contest, but Deebo Samuel should also continue to play a major role in the rushing game.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) is officially listed as questionable for the Week 1 season opener against the Chicago Bears. Kittle injured his calf on Monday and hasn't practiced since, so he's clearly trending towards either missing the game entirely or being limited to kick off the season. Fantasy managers who were planning on rolling with Kittle in Week 1 now need to have a backup plan in place. The good news is we'll know early Sunday whether the 28-year-old is active. But he's shaping up as a risky low-end TE1/high-end TE2 this weekend. It remains to be seen who will be the best pass-catching option at the position in San Francisco if Kittle doesn't play. The Niners have Ross Dwelley, Tyler Kroft and Charlie Woerner as options.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) wasn't listed on the team's injury report on Wednesday. He was dealing with a bone bruise behind his knee and returned to practice on Monday with no limitations. The 26-year-old will be all systems go against the Chicago Bears in Week 1. He broke out last season under "the wide back" role with 77 catches, 1,405 yards, and six touchdowns while rushing for 365 yards on 59 attempts and eight scores across 16 games. Samuel is a borderline WR1 and should be started in all league formats for the season opener against Chicago.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) wasn't listed on the 49ers' injury report Wednesday. He missed the entire preseason due to a hamstring issue. The 24-year-old practiced with no limitations and will suit up in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. He rushed for 963 yards on 207 attempts and five touchdowns while catching 19 passes for 137 yards and a score in 11 games in 2021. With the hamstring issue behind him, Mitchell is San Francisco's lead back and is a mid-range RB2 in Week 1's matchup against the Bears.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle's groin injury is "not good," and contingency plans are in place in case he's ruled out for Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, according to sources. One source characterized Kittle's injury as serious enough that it would be best for him to miss a game. The 28-year-old missed practice on Wednesday and should be considered very questionable or the season opener. Fantasy managers will need to have a backup plan in place, but the good news is the Niners play early on Sunday. If Kittle is active, he's a must-start in fantasy. We'll hopefully have a better idea of whether he can play later this week. If Kittle is forced to sit out, Tyler Kroft would serve as the top pass-catching tight end for the 49ers, while wideouts Deebo Samuel Brandon Aiyuk should be targeted heavily.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) won't practice on Wednesday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is calling it a day-to-day issue after Kittle did a little work on Monday. It puts Kittle's availability for Week 1's game against the Chicago Bears in question. It's not what Kittle's fantasy managers wanted to see entering the regular season, but it also doesn't sound like a very serious injury. If the 28-year-old is able to return to practice later this week, he should be able to suit up this Sunday in Chicago. As long as Kittle is active in Week 1, he should be in all starting fantasy lineups as a top-five player at his position. Stay tuned for updates on his status later this week.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward (hamstring) was placed on the injured reserve list on Wednesday. As a result, he will miss at least four games, although he could be out longer. The veteran has played his entire career with the Niners, accumulating 401 total tackles (303 solo), 39 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, four picks, and three sacks. With that said, Ward hasn't been a serviceable fantasy option throughout the years, so managers aren't likely to lose any sleep over the latest update.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) practiced with the team on Thursday for the first time all summer. The Niners kept Garoppolo away from the team all summer because they were prepared to trade him all along and didn't want to create any distractions at training camp. Garoppolo was also rehabbing on his own from offseason shoulder surgery in March. The 30-year-old is returning on a restructured one-year deal to be Trey Lance's back, though, so he has rejoined the team as Week 1 of the regular season quickly approaches. There's a chance that Jimmy G is trade midseason, but until that possibility arises, he'll serve as the backup to Lance, leaving him with basically no fantasy value.

The San Francisco 49ers waived running back Trey Sermon on Wednesday. There had been mixed reports on Sermon during training camp and the preseason, with some suggesting that he was on the roster bubble. The 23-year-old third-round pick in 2021 will surely be scooped up off waivers by a running back-needy team, and it could give Sermon more fantasy appeal in deeper leagues, depending on his landing spot. With JaMycal Hasty also waived on Tuesday, San Francisco will enter the 2022 regular season with a RB depth chart of Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson Jr. and rookies Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason. Sermon had 41 carries for 167 yards and one touchdown in nine regular season games in his rookie campaign last year.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers waived running back JaMycal Hasty on Tuesday, according to a source. Hasty served as the team's primary third-down back in 2021 and finished with 16 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown while adding 23 receptions (29 targets) for 157 additional yards in 11 regular season games (zero starts). In his two seasons with the Niners, he tallied 55 carries for 216 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and two touchdowns, adding 30 catches for 190 yards on 37 targets in 19 games (zero starts). There's a chance Hasty returns to the Niners practice squad if he isn't claimed off waivers. San Francisco will move forward with Elijah Mitchell as their starter, with Jeff Wilson Jr., Trey Sermon and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price behind him.
The San Francisco 49ers released veteran safety Tashaun Gipson on Tuesday, according to a source. Gipson signed a one-year deal with the Niners just a week ago, but he won't make it onto the initial 53-man roster. The 32-year-old operated as a starter for the Chicago Bears the last two years, putting up 81 solo tackles, one sack, four interceptions, 10 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries in 28 games started. He was a Pro Bowler back in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns, and Gipson has recorded a healthy 563 tackles (408 solo), 27 interceptions (three for touchdowns) and 57 passes defensed in his 10 NFL seasons with four different teams. There's a good chance he'll latch on elsewhere as secondary depth.
Monday, August 29
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a restructured one-year deal on Monday to keep him with the team this year, according to sources. The contract contains no-trade and no-tag clauses, assuring that he'll remain with the 49ers in 2022 and have the freedom to leave in 2023. The Niners made it abundantly clear that second-year QB Trey Lance is their starter, but no trade partners emerged for Garoppolo this offseason while he recovered from shoulder surgery. The 30-year-old's base salary will be lowered to $6.5 million fully guaranteed this year, but he'll have a chance to make $10 million more in incentives. Garoppolo will be a high-end backup for Lance this year, and he'd be in play as a QB2 in superflex leagues if Lance misses time with an injury.
Sunday, August 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) sat out of practice on Sunday. The stud wideout is reportedly dealing with a minor knee contusion. He only played 10 snaps during their preseason finale against the Houston Texans. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned with the regular season two weeks away. Samuel has plenty of time to rest and recover before the season begins. He should be considered a low WR1/high WR2 for fantasy purposes.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) was able to get back on the practice field on Sunday. It appears that Mitchell is back to being healthy after dealing with a lingering hamstring issue. He was force to miss all three of the preseason contests, but that shouldn't be a concern to fantasy managers. He still has two weeks of practice before the regular season begins. Fantasy managers should expect Mitchell to be healthy and ready to go in Week 1.
Friday, August 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward (hamstring) is expected to land on short-term injured reserve, according to general manager John Lynch. The 31-year-old has played his entire eight-year career with the Niners, accumulating 401 total tackles (303 solo), 39 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, four interceptions, and three sacks. He is anticipated to miss at least four games, although fantasy managers could be without him longer.
Tuesday, August 23
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday that running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) is on track to return in Week 1 of the regular season against the Chicago Bears. Mitchell is unlikely to play in the preseason finale on Thursday against the Houston Texans. Regardless, the 24-year-old second-year back should open the 2022 regular season as the team's go-to running back behind quarterback Trey Lance. Mitchell led the team in rushing in his first NFL season in 2021 with 963 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 207 attempts over 11 regular season games. Trusting a Shanahan RB is a scary thought in fantasy, especially given all of the options behind Mitchell, but he's the most attractive 49ers RB in fantasy as a low-end RB2.
The San Francisco 49ers placed defensive back Jason Verrett (knee) on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the regular season. The oft-injured Verrett is still trying to recover from surgery to fix a torn ACL in his knee. The former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2014 has never played in more than 14 games in a season, and he's played in double-digit games in a single season just twice in seven NFL campaigns. Until Verrett returns to the team's active roster, Ambry Thomas will have a bigger role in the 49ers secondary as depth.
Monday, August 22
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran free-agent safety Tashaun Gipson to an undisclosed deal on Monday, according to a source. Gipson will join the Niners after starting 12 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021, recording 47 tackles (33 solo), one sack, two interceptions, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery. The 32-year-old was a Pro Bowler back in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns, and he has 563 career tackles (408 solo), one sack, 14 tackles for loss, five QB hits, 27 interceptions (three for touchdowns), 57 passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries in 140 games (132 starts) with the Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Bears. He'll provide secondary depth in San Francisco.
