Minnesota Vikings Transactions

Sunday, January 15
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith (knee) and running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu (illness) are both active for Sunday's playoff game against the New York Giants. Smith, 33, played in 13 games this regular season, logging 84 tackles, one forced fumble, and five interceptions. Meanwhile, Nwangwu registered a league-leading 35 kick returns for 920 yards (and one touchdown). Both players will look to make an impact in this pivotal win-or-go-home game for Minnesota.
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler (ankle, personal) will be inactive for Sunday's playoff game against the New York Giants. The 24-year-old has played just two games since Week 9 and was absent from practice this past week due to a personal matter. Through 10 total contests, Dantzler logged 50 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Chandon Sullivan and Kris Boyd should see more snaps in his absence.
Sunday, January 08
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) has been activated from injured reserve. Through seven games earlier this season, Smith caught 22 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. However, after Smith landed on IR, Minnesota went out and acquired T.J. Hockenson from the Lions. Thus, Smith will fill a depth role for the Vikings and is not on the fantasy radar in Week 18.
Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith (knee) has been ruled out for the Week 18 matchup against the Chicago Bears. The 33-year-old got in a full week of practice, but began feeling soreness in his knee on Friday. The organization is going to be cautious ahead of the postseason. The Bears aren't playing for anything, but the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. That being said, it sounds like a good idea for the Vikings to give Smith a day off and let him get 100 percent for the postseason.
Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith (knee) and pass rusher Za'Darius Smith (personal) are both inactive for Week 18 against the Chicago Bears. The former had been ruled out ahead of time while the latter was questionable. Harrison Smith finishes the regular season with 84 tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble through 14 games. Meanwhile, Za'Darius Smith registered 44 tackles, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles over the course of 16 contests.
Friday, January 06
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings plan to activate tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) from Injured Reserve, according to a source. Smith last played in Week 8 due to a high-ankle sprain, but he should be active for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Chicago Bears and will be a big boost for the offense as they head into the postseason. The 24-year-old caught 22 of his 33 targets for 168 yards and two touchdowns in seven games before getting injured. Since Smith's injury, Minnesota traded for T.J. Hockenson, and Hockenson should remain the unquestioned top pass-catching tight end for the Vikings heading into the playoffs. Smith should be avoided in DFS and season-long leagues this weekend and throughout the postseason, but he could be a sneaky red-zone weapon for quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Thursday, January 05
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings standout offensive tackle Brian O'Neill (Achilles) was placed on the Injured Reserve on Tuesday after suffering a partially torn Achilles last week, according to sources. He will miss the rest of the season, including playoffs, and is on the road to recovery. It's a big loss for the Vikings offensive line as they wrap up the regular season this weekend and get ready for the playoffs. As of right now, they are the No. 3 seed in the NFC. If they stay there, they'll be hosting the New York Giants in the first round of the postseason. With O'Neill out the rest of the way, the Vikings will be hoping that Oli Udoh can hold down the fort as the starting right tackle.
Saturday, December 31
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari (appendix) doesn't carry an injury designation into the Week 17 game against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings and will play for the first time since having appendicitis. He hasn't played since Week 12. The 31-year-old's return couldn't come at a better time for the Packers in another must-win game against the current No. 2 seed in the NFL. The Vikings won't be resting anyone either, as they're still in play for the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the postseason. While Bakhtiari will be back this weekend, it remains to be seen if he'll be on the field for every offensive snap as quarterback Aaron Rodgers' blind-side protector.
Wednesday, December 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) has been designated to return from injured reserve. The veteran tight end was placed on the injured reserve list after the Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals because of an ankle injury. Smith is averaging only 5.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, scoring 8.8 or fewer fantasy points in all but one contest this season. Meanwhile, the Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson after Smith got hurt. Even if the former second-round pick is placed on the active roster this week, Smith has no fantasy value as long as Hockenson is healthy. Fantasy players can leave for the former Alabama tight end on the waiver wire in all redraft leagues.
Tuesday, December 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent quarterback Josh Rosen to their practice squad on Tuesday. Rosen was a first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals back in 2018, but he hasn't lived up to expectations and lasted only one season before being shipped to the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns. The 25-year-old was most recently cut from Cleveland's practice squad in October. Rosen has played in only 24 games (16 starts) in his career, going 277-for-513 for 2,864 yards, 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He'll be providing more depth at QB behind Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullens to close out the season.
Sunday, December 18
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (rib) sustained a rib contusion during Saturday's win over the Indianapolis Colts but is "feeling good," head coach Kevin O'Connell told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul-Pioneer Press. He'll likely be monitored and evaluated in the coming days, but as of now, the injury does not appear serious. Assuming he's a full-go for Week 16, Jefferson will continue to rank as a high-end WR1.
Friday, December 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) is close to returning from injured reserve. According to Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, Smith is close to returning from an ankle injury. The 24-year-old had been sidelined since Week 8 after suffering a high-ankle sprain in late October. He caught 22 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns before the injury. Smit could participate in drills as soon as next week. With the Vikings acquiring tight end T.J. Hockenson from the Lions in the middle of the season, Smith's fantasy upside is limited and is mainly a stash in dynasty leagues.
Sunday, December 11
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw (concussion) has been ruled out for the Week 14 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The 23-year-old will sit this one out as the Vikings don't want to rush him back too soon because of the concussion. The expectation is that Darrisaw will practice next week and hopefully suit up for Week 15. In the meantime, Blake Brandel should remain at left tackle until Darrisaw is ready to return to the field.
Minnesota Vikings center Garrett Bradbury (back) is inactive for Week 14 versus the Detroit Lions. He had been listed as questionable after practicing in a limited capacity all week long. The Vikings are down two key linemen in Bradbury and tackle Christian Darrisaw (concussion). While this could hurt the fantasy values of Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins, they should still be started in most leagues.
Monday, December 05
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jonathan Bullard (biceps) may not need surgery on a biceps injury that he suffered in the Week 13 win over the New York Jets, according to a source. The hope is that he can return to the field soon. Bullard suffered a biceps injury in the first half on Sunday and never returned to the contest. The 29-year-old has been playing a rotational role along the team's defensive line, but there's a good chance he won't be ready to play in Week 14 against the Detroit Lions. If he misses time moving forward, the Vikings will ask James Lynch and Dalvin Tomlinson to step up. Bullard has 23 tackles (17 solo) and five tackles for loss in 11 games (seven starts) in his first year in Minnesota in 2022.
Tuesday, November 29
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Andrew Booth (knee) will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery on Monday, according to a source. Losing the second-rounder for the rest of the year is a big blow to Minnesota's depth in their beat-up secondary. The good news is that head coach Kevin O'Connell said he's hopeful that Cameron Dantzler (ankle) will come off Injured Reserve soon. Booth started to have a bigger role on defense in Week 10, and he'll finish his first season in the NFL with 12 solo tackles in six games played (one start) for the Vikings. With the 22-year-old out the rest of the way, Kris Boyd is expected to take on a bigger role.
Monday, November 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings rookie second-round cornerback Andrew Booth (knee) is undergoing knee surgery on Monday, according to sources. There is a chance that Booth will miss the rest of the season, but that won't be clear until after the surgery is complete. Booth popped up on last week's injury report and didn't play in the Thursday night win over the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving. The 22-year-old has recorded 12 solo tackles in his first six NFL games. If he's out for the rest of the season, Kris Boyd is expected to see more playing time in Minnesota's secondary.
Sunday, November 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (toe) is dealing with "mild turf toe," according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. The injury limited him during practice this past week but is expected to have no impact on his availability in Week 11 or beyond. Jefferson has yet to miss a game in his career, adding further value to his already elite fantasy stock.
Minnesota Vikings tackle Christian Darrisaw (head) exited Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys and is being evaluated for a concussion. It's a concerning development for the Vikings and their offensive line considering Darrisaw was evaluated for a concussion during last week's game, too. For the time being, Blake Brandel will take over as Minnesota's left tackle.
Saturday, November 19
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings linebacker Za'Darius Smith (knee) is listed as questionable for the Week 11 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. It sounds like the 30-year-old is going to be a game-time decision for this contest. He has been limited to individual workouts this week, which puts his status up in the air. Smith leads the league in pressures and tackles for loss heading into this game. His absence would be a significant loss for this defensive unit. Third-year linebacker D.J. Wonnum would likely be asked to step up and start if Smith is unable to go.
Friday, November 18
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was on the injury report this week with a toe injury, but he's good to go since he doesn't carry an injury designation into Week 11. Minnesota faces the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, who just gave up three touchdowns to rookie Christian Watson. Matchup statistics don't matter when it comes to Jefferson's fantasy outlook, as he's a weekly high-end WR1 play.
Thursday, November 17
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (toe) remained limited during Thursday's practice session. The 23-year-old has now been limited in back-to-back practices. However, Jefferson has mentioned he is fine heading into his Week 11 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. This is likely more injury management than anything else. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned about Jefferson's status heading into Week 11.
Wednesday, November 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (toe) was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice with a toe injury. It's currently unclear how serious the injury is and when it was picked up. Jefferson's first appearance on the injury report this season comes right after a sensational Week 10 performance that earned him NFC offensive player of the week honors. Fantasy managers should monitor practice reports throughout the week in hopes of having the superstar wideout available for a Week 11 bout with the Dallas Cowboys.
Sunday, November 13
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings defensive back Cameron Dantzler (ankle) has been placed on the injured reserve ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. This is a tough blow to the Vikings secondary, but Dantzler is expected to return this season. Before going down, Dantzler recorded 45 tackles, four passes defended, and forced one fumble in eight games. It sounds like the Vikings plan to use rookie Akayleb Evans and fourth-year corner Duke Shelley in the absence of Dantzler. This is a significant hit to a Vikings secondary that has been above average all season long.
Minnesota Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw (head) is being evaluated for a concussion. Minnesota will be without its talented lineman as they try to mount a comeback against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10. Blake Brandel will fill in for Darrisaw, who hasn't missed a snap since the season opener.
Thursday, November 10
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday. He is dealing with an ankle issue but should be fine for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. Wednesday marks the first time the 32-year-old had been limited in practice. He has 38 catches for 418 yards and two touchdowns over eight games in 2022. The veteran has recorded 67 yards per game in back-to-back weeks. Thielen is a borderline WR3 in a tough matchup against a Bills defense that ranks fourth in DVOA versus the opposing team's WR2s.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (knee) was able to practice in full on Thursday. The 32-year-old was limited during Wednesday's practice, but it seems like it was for rest purposes. Thielen played through his knee issue last Sunday, so the assumption is that he'll suit up for Week 10. The expectation is that he'll be removed from the injury report on Friday. He'll be a low-end WR3 for a tough matchup against the Buffalo Bills this week.
Sunday, November 06
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson has worked hard to learn his new team's offense and is expected to play a key role during Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. He notes that the team "plans to get [Hockenson] in there as much as it can." The 25-year-old should be viewed as a solid TE1 option in his Vikings debut.
Thursday, November 03
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. In last Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals, he suffered a knee contusion. The 32-year-old caught six of his seven targets for 67 yards in the Week 8 win. Overall, he has 35 catches for 351 yards and two touchdowns over seven games this season. The veteran was added to Wednesday's injury report but is expected to play against the Cardinals. Thielen is a high-end WR3 against the Commanders in Week 9.
Tuesday, November 01
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings acquired tight end T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick and a 2024 conditional fourth-round pick from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick, according to sources. It's a stunner before Tuesday's deadline. Irv Smith Jr. is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and will miss some time, so Hockenson will immediately jump in as Minnesota's top pass-catching tight end. Hockenson's fantasy upside should increase in a pass-happy Vikings offense, although there are plenty of mouths to feed in Minnesota. Back in Detroit, Brock Wright and rookie James Mitchell will see elevated roles the rest of the year, but the departure of Hockenson will mean more targets for Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond and running backs D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.
The Minnesota Vikings placed tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, which will keep him out for at least the next four games. He's expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the Week 8 win over the Arizona Cardinals. On top of the injury, the Vikings went out and acquired T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, so he'll now step in as the team's top pass-catching tight end with Smith sidelined. The 24-year-old Smith might not play again in 2022, so he's not worth holding in single-year fantasy leagues, especially with Hockenson now in town. Smith missed all of last season due to injury and might finish 2022 with just seven games played for the Vikings.
Monday, October 31
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The initial belief is that Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 8 win over the Arizona Cardinals, according to sources. The Vikings are still sorting out Smith's timetable, but there's a good chance that he'll miss some game action moving forward. High-ankle sprains can sideline players anywhere from two to six weeks, so fantasy managers should expect to be without Smith at least for Week 9 against the Washington Commanders. The 24-year-old caught all four of his targets for 28 yards before leaving on Sunday. Johnny Mundt, who caught his only pass for a touchdown, could become an interesting touchdown-dependent TE2 streamer if Smith misses any time, but Jacob Hollister could be involved as well at the position in Minnesota.
Sunday, October 30
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (knee) suffered a knee contusion during the win over the Cardinals on Sunday. Despite a brief exit due to the ailment, the veteran still caught six of his seven targets for 67 yards, one of his best showings of the year. Thielen has 10 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown over his last two games, so fantasy managers are hoping he's on the verge of turning things around. Assuming he receives the green light for the Week 9 meeting with the Commanders, he'll make a suitable flex option for those in deeper formats.
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (ankle) will need an MRI after injuring his ankle late in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Smith didn't impress in Week 8, amassing only four receptions for 28 yards. Overall, the 24-year-old hasn't done much on the fantasy end this season outside his two touchdown catches. While managers can look to Smith as a desperation fantasy option from week to week based on his small upside, he's easily replaceable if he can't go in Week 9 versus the Commanders.
Sunday, October 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (shoulder) is officially active for Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. He had been listed as questionable, though the expectation was that he would play. The 24-year-old has totaled 94 rushing yards, 58 receiving yards, and two touchdowns while serving as Dalvin Cook's backup. Given his depth role, he should be left on most benches in fantasy football this week.
Saturday, October 15
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (shoulder) is listed as questionable for the team's Week 6 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Mattison was limited in practice sessions all week but is reportedly expected to play. The 24-year-old has seen more usage this season than anticipated with starter Dalvin Cook healthy and his involvement going forward will be worth monitoring. Although Mattison should be rostered in all formats, he can't be played in starting fantasy lineups and should continue to be valued as a high-end handcuff.
Thursday, October 13
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. He is dealing with a shoulder injury and could be limited in practice this week. The 29-year-old has rushed for 94 yards on 29 attempts and one touchdown while catching eight passes for 58 yards and a score over five games in 2022. Mattison will have two more days to log a full session but is expected to suit up in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. Mattison will serve as the Vikings' backup running back to undisputed starter Dalvin Cook but is mainly a starting option in very deep-league formats.
Wednesday, October 12
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings have placed running back Ty Chandler (thumb) on the injured reserve list, meaning he will miss at least the next four games. The 24-year-old has been primarily a special teams player that has yet to play an offensive snap. His absence could prompt the team to consider signing a depth piece to their practice squad, but this will not impact starter Dalvin Cook or even his backup, Alexander Mattison. In a corresponding move, the team did elevate safety Theo Jackson from their practice squad to their 53-player roster. Chandler will be re-evaluated in four weeks to determine if he can return to action.
Monday, October 10
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings rookie running back/special-teamer Ty Chandler (thumb) suffered a broken thumb in the Week 5 win over the Chicago Bears, and a determination is being made whether he can play through it with a cast on. The fifth-rounder will likely have to miss some time after he was active for just his second career NFL game on Sunday against Chicago. In his two games so far with Minnesota, Chandler hasn't played a single offensive snap, so he's well off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues in 2022. He's currently listed as fourth on the running back depth chart for the Vikings behind Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison and Kene Nwangwu.
Sunday, October 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine (leg) was carted off the field after an ugly play during the Week 4 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The rookie safety was put on a backboard and onto a cart before exiting the field. The entire Vikings surrounded Cine in what looked to be a horrendous leg injury. He will be transported to a nearby hospital. The organization should give updates on Cine later in the day. Although, the 22-year-old is likely to miss significant time after that incident.
Minnesota Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine suffered a lower leg fracture during Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints in London. Cine will stay in London and be operated on by the Vikings' medical staff before flying back to the United States. Between injuries and depth at the safety position, Cine has struggled to find playing time in his rookie season. This latest setback is another devastating blow for the 22-year-old.
Thursday, September 29
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) was spotted at practice on Thursday and was listed as a full participant. Cook is dealing with a separated shoulder that he suffered in Week 3 against the Lions, which caused him to be ruled out for the remainder of the game. The good news is this is something he has been able to play through in the past, so all signs point towards him putting on a harness and playing in Week 4 against the Saints. Still, fantasy managers need to have a backup plan in case the stud back is to be held out. If Cook is surprisingly ruled out, Alexander Mattison would enter must-start territory as a borderline RB1 option.
Wednesday, September 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) isn't practicing on Wednesday and is still considered day-to-day for the Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints in London. The Vikings will try to at least get Cook some work in walk-throughs this week before making a decision on whether he will play on Sunday. It sounds like the 27-year-old won't do much this week, setting the stage for him to be a game-time decision early on Sunday. The good news is fantasy managers will know right away with the early start time, but they should have a backup plan in place in case he's inactive. Cook missed a game in 2021 with the same injury. If he can't go, Alexander Mattison will be a plug-and-play fantasy option.
Monday, September 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook dislocated his shoulder in a Week 3 victory over the Detroit Lions. This is reportedly the same shoulder the three-time Pro Bowler dislocated last season that sidelined him for one game. He returned just 11 days after the injury to total 222 yards and two touchdowns while wearing a harness in Week 14. Cook is reportedly expected to wear the harness once again and suit up for a Week 4 showdown with the New Orleans Saints in London. He will remain a high-end RB1 going forward.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said that running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) is day-to-day with the shoulder injury that he suffered in the Week 3 win over the Detroit Lions. Cook dislocated his shoulder on Sunday, an injury that he's dealt with in the past. The 27-year-old is expected to wear a harness and could play in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints in London. However, fantasy managers should consider him questionable for that contest. He carried the ball 17 times for 96 yards and a touchdown in the win over Detroit, but he wasn't targeted in the passing game. Alexander Mattison also had a rushing score and would become a must-start in fantasy lineups if Cook is out in Week 4. Mattison is currently rostered in only 55% of Yahoo leagues.
Sunday, September 25
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. He totaled 17 carries, 97 yards, and one touchdown before exiting while clutching his left arm. If Cook is forced to miss any time, Alexander Mattison will become a must-start in fantasy football.
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) is expected to suit up for the overseas outing against the Saints in London. The 27-year-old had arguably his best game of the season on Sunday in the win over the Lions, finishing with 96 yards and a touchdown off 17 carries. He'll be wearing a brace in Week 4, and there's also a chance he may be limited to some degree. With that said, he should remain in all fantasy starting lineups, unless something happens regarding his condition to suggest otherwise.
Saturday, September 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith (concussion) will be sidelined for the team's Week 3 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Smith suffered a concussion in Week 2's Monday night loss to the Eagles. On a short week, Smith was unable to clear the concussion protocol. The Vikings will hope to have their former All-Pro back for Week 4, but in the meantime, he will be replaced by either Josh Metellus or rookie Lewis Cine. Either way, this is a big loss to Minnesota's secondary and a boost to Jared Goff and his weapons for fantasy this week.
Friday, September 09
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison did not practice Thursday for personal reasons. There has been no report of Mattison potentially missing Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. Friday's injury report will determine if the 24-year-old will suit up for the regular season opener. He had 134 carries for a career-high 491 yards and three rushing touchdowns in 16 games (four starts) for Minnesota in 2021. If Mattison practices on Friday, he will serve as the Vikings' top backup running back to star Dalvin Cook. Kene Nwangwu and rookie Ty Chandler would see an expanded role if Mattison is inactive on Sunday.
Monday, September 05
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Monday that nothing has happened to alter the original timetable on tight end Irv Smith Jr. (thumb) returning for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. "If anything, I feel as confident as ever that we'll have him," O'Connell said. Fantasy managers will have a better idea of Smith's status for this Sunday when the team issues their first injury report on Wednesday. The 24-year-old should be active, though, and he's primed for a big year as the team's top pass-catching tight end after he missed all of 2021 due to injury. Smith is a solid backup tight end in fantasy, and he'll likely have TE1 streaming intrigue in the right matchups in 2022 in what should be a pass-happy Vikings offense.
Sunday, September 04
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Vikings signed quarterback David Blough to its practice squad on Saturday. The Lions recently released him after suiting up for the team sporadically over the last three seasons. He compiled 1,033 yards, seven interceptions, and four touchdowns during that span. Even worse, the 27-year-old completed just 54.3% of his throws. Nevertheless, Blough has a long way to go before he's relevant to fantasy managers, even if he gets promoted to the 53-man roster at some point during the year.
Friday, September 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (thumb) is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season after his Aug. 1 thumb injury, and he said he's returned to catching balls over the last few days. "It feels good. I'm getting back in the groove of things. I've been out a few weeks now, so just getting back into football conditioning," Smith said. The 24-year-old didn't play at all last year after he had surgery for an injured meniscus in his right knee, but he'll be the team's top pass-catching tight end in 2022 and is intriguing as a TE2 with upside in fantasy football. In 13 games played in 2020, Smith had 30 catches on 43 targets for 365 yards and five touchdowns.
Wednesday, August 31
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings acquired wide receiver Jalen Reagor from the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round draft pick and a 2024 conditional fourth-round pick that would become a fifth-rounder if certain statistical marks are not met, according to sources. Reagor, a former first-rounder in 2020, disappointed in his two seasons in Philly, catching 64 of 111 targets for 695 yards and three touchdowns in 28 games (24 starts). He'll join an already crowded Vikings group of pass-catchers in Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn. Minnesota should be a pass-happy offense under new head coach Kevin O'Connell, but unless an injury opens up a bigger role for Reagor, he'll still likely belong on the waiver wire in standard 12-team leagues. Reagor's presence is certainly bad news for Osborn's chances of a third-year breakout.
Tuesday, August 30
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The Minnesota Vikings waived quarterback Kellen Mond on Tuesday, according to a source. Mond was a third-round selection out of Texas A&M last year, but he struggled in the preseason and the Vikings recently traded for veteran Nick Mullens, leaving Mond as the odd-man out in the quarterback room in Minnesota. Behind starter Kirk Cousins, the Vikings also have Sean Mannion. Mond had plenty of people on his side during the pre-draft process, so he'll surely receive interest on the open market and land with another organization as QB depth. However, his fantasy stock in dynasty/keeper leagues has already taken a big hit.
The Minnesota Vikings cut quarterback Sean Mannion on Tuesday, according to a source. Mannion could wind up returning to join the practice squad. The Vikings also cut Kellen Mond on Tuesday, so starter Kirk Cousins and backup Nick Mullens are the only current signal-callers on the 53-man roster. Mannion definitely outperformed Mond in the preseason, but at best, he'll be Minnesota's No. 3 if he returns to the organization. The 30-year-old former third-rounder went 34-for-57 for 315 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in four games (two starts) in his two seasons for the Vikings. Mannion has played in only 14 games (three starts) in the NFL in his six seasons.
Sunday, August 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson (knee) tore his ACL during Saturday's preseason contest against the Denver Broncos. After missing all of last season with the same injury, Johnson will be sidelined for another. The 25-year-old had a decent rookie campaign in 2019, finishing with 31 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns. However, his production dwindled in 2020. With knee ailments keeping Johnson off the field, it wouldn't be surprising if he has already played his final game with the Vikings, although his absence won't impact fantasy managers much.

The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Nick Mullens from the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2024, according to sources. Mullens will now be competing with Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond for the backup job behind starter Kirk Cousins. With Mullens now out of the way in Las Vegas, Jarrett Stidham should be Derek Carr's unquestioned backup in 2022. Mullens, who originally went undrafted out of Southern Mississippi, spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Cleveland Browns in 2021. In 20 career games (17 starts), the 27-year-old signal-caller has completed 64.6 percent of his 630 attempts for 4,861 yards, 26 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.
The Minnesota Vikings have moved on from wide receiver Albert Wilson in an attempt to trim their roster ahead of the regular season. Wilson, despite catching a pair of touchdowns in the team's season opener, faced an uphill battle to make the Vikings' roster with the team's depth at the position. The 30-year-old has spent seven seasons between the Chiefs and Dolphins, having started five games with Miami as recently as last year. Now 30 years old, the undrafted free agent will be looking for a new home ahead of Week 1, with his fantasy prospects set to be held in abeyance until then. The duo of Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen figure to see as many pass-catching opportunities as they can handle, leaving K.J. Osborn as the only other potentially fantasy relevant pass-catcher.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (thumb) is expected to get back on the practice field this week, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. The Vikings appear confident that Smith will be ready to suit up for Week 1. This is great to see considering Smith hasn't played in a game since early January of 2021. He is expected to be the primary tight end once he gets back to playing. However, Smith has very little time under O'Connell's system, so he could come out of the gate slowly. There's some TE1 upside here, but he should be considered a TE2 to begin the season.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Thursday that tight end Irv Smith Jr. (thumb), who had thumb surgery earlier this summer, is on track to play in Week 1 against the division-rival Green Bay Packers. Smith missed all of last season after having surgery to fix the meniscus in his right knee, but he's expected to be ready to go for the start of the regular season. How effective he'll be and how much he'll be on the field is a different story. The fact that he's missed most of training camp to this point isn't a great sign either. In his two seasons played in the NFL, the 24-year-old has 66 catches (90 targets) for 676 yards and seven touchdowns, but he could break out in 2022 if he stays healthy as the team's top pass-catching tight end. Consider Smith a TE2 in fantasy with upside.
Minnesota Vikings rookie running back Ty Chandler (ankle) isn't practicing at training camp on Thursday due to an ankle injury, but the team is hopeful that he can play in the second preseason game on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers. Chandler stood out in the preseason opener with 50 yards rushing as he competes for the No. 3 running back job against Kene Nwangwu and fellow rookie Bryant Koback behind starter Dalvin Cook and backup Alexander Mattison. The fifth-round selection should only be considered as a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues this fall.
