TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and pitcher Elieser Hernandez agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million deal to avoid salary arbitration. Hernandez will begin a new chapter with the Mets in 2023 after spending five seasons in Miami. The 27-year-old split his 2022 season as a starter and middle-inning reliever. He posted a 6.35 ERA across 62 1/3 innings and 60 punchouts. Hernandez was not the most effective pitcher in 2022, although we have seen success in previous years. With a change of scenery in Citi Field, Hernandez may have an opportunity to turn the tables. However, he is mainly on the fantasy radar in deep-league league formats.
The New York Mets and reliever Drew Smith avoided arbitration after agreeing to a one-year, $1.3 million deal. The 29-year-old has effectively contributed to Buck Showalter's bullpen despite missing some time in 2022. He suffered a back and finger injury and hasn't been too healthy since joining the pros in 2018. Although Smith still commenced 44 appearances and posted a 3.33 ERA with 53 punchouts. He compiled a 28.3% strikeout rate while holding opponents to a .221 average. Smith is primarily used in middle-inning situations and collected 14 holds across 46 innings. He should be on the radar for leagues that account for holds.

The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso agreed to a one-year, $14.5 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration. Alonso made his second All-Star team in 2022 and finished the regular season with 40 long balls, a league-high 131 RBI, 95 runs scored, five stolen bases, a .271/.352/.518 slash line and an .869 OPS in 685 plate appearances and 160 games. The former National League Rookie of the Year in 2019 is one of the best power hitters in baseball and resides in one of the better lineups in baseball, which makes him a top-25 fantasy target, regardless of position, early in drafts. Alonso has mashed 146 home runs and driven in 380 runs in his first four major-league seasons.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets signed free-agent outfielder Tim Locastro to a minor-league deal on Monday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, according to sources. Locastro will stay in the Big Apple after playing in 38 games for the New York Yankees in 2022. In those 38 games, he hit .186/.239/.349 with a .588 OPS, two home runs, four RBI, 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 46 plate appearances. The 30-year-old speedster will give the Mets some outfield depth, but he's not much to look at from an offensive standpoint and won't have any fantasy appeal entering the 2023 season. In six major-league seasons, Locastro has a .227/.325/.331 slash line with seven long balls, 35 RBI, 87 runs scored and 39 stolen bases.

When the San Francisco Giants flagged shortstop Carlos Correa's physical, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen immediately put out an offer. Correa and the Mets agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract last week. Although it appears that the Mets are also concerned about Correa's 2014 apparent ankle injury, which occurred in his minor-league days. A few days ago, the Mets flew Correa to New York to conduct a physical examination. The two parties agreed to separate for the holidays, but both sides are eager to work things out. The 28-year-old has been relatively healthy over the past two seasons and has only missed 30 games. The Mets clearly believe that his value on the field is worth all of the commotion. Correa is projected to be the Mets every day third baseman once the contract is finalized.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and left-hander Joey Lucchesi avoided salary arbitration on Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million deal, according to a source. It's the exact same salary he made in 2022 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Lucchesi went on a minor-league rehab assignment in September but didn't pitch at all in the big leagues in 2022. If healthy in 2023, he could have a significant role for New York as a swing man. The 29-year-old southpaw went 1-4 with a 4.46 ERA (3.40 FIP), a 1.17 WHIP and a 26.1 percent strikeout rate in 38 1/3 innings over 11 appearances (eight starts) for the Mets in 2021. In his four years in the majors (three with San Diego), Lucchesi has a 4.24 ERA (4.12 FIP), a 1.27 WHIP, 349 strikeouts and 112 walks in 337 2/3 frames over 70 outings (66 starts).

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and free-agent infielder Danny Mendick agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 29-year-old was non-tendered by the Chicago White Sox after he hit a strong .289/.343/.443 in 106 plate appearances and 31 games for them in 2022. The Mets will get four years of control with Mendick, who underwent surgery on his right knee in June to fix a torn ACL. The 29-year-old may not be ready for the start of the 2023 season, but he'll provide the Mets with a strong utility infield bat once he's ready to return. In his four major-league seasons (all with the White Sox), Mendick has hit .251/.309/.366 with a .675 OPS, 10 home runs, 45 RBI, 53 runs scored and a stolen base in 151 games played.

Shortstop Carlos Correa signed a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets after his previous deal with the Giants fell through. According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, the deal with the Giants hit a snag due to an unspecified issue that arose during his physical. He initially agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the Giants on December 13th. San Francisco postponed Correa's press conference, and the Mets swooped in and signed the All-Star shortstop to a deal. The 28-year-old slashed .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs, 47 extra-base hits, 64 RBI, and 70 runs across 136 games for the Twins in 2022. He will be the Mets' everyday third baseman in a loaded lineup that includes Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. Correa's move to New York shouldn't limit his fantasy value, and he will be a top-10 shortstop with third-base eligibility heading into drafts in 2023.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
According to a tweet from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday, relief pitcher Adam Ottavino and the New York Mets have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal. Per Rosenthal, the deal includes an opt-out after the first season, and he'll receive $14.5 million. Ottavino made 66 appearances for the Mets last season, logging 65 2/3 innings while pitching to a 2.06 ERA and a 2.85 FIP in the process. He also added 79 strikeouts compared to just 16 walks while registering 18 holds and three saves. The National League East club's current high-leverage setup relievers include David Robertson, Brooks Raley and Drew Smith in front of closer Edwin Diaz.
The San Francisco Giants postponed a Tuesday press conference to introduce shortstop Carlos Correa after a medical concern arose during the All-Star's physical, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation. The Giants haven't publicly announced any details regarding Correa's 13-year, $350 million deal. The two sides agreed on Dec. 13, subject to a successful physical. It's possible that this turns into a non-story quickly, as one person confirmed Tuesday's press conference was put on hold because the sides were awaiting the results of Correa's physical. The 28-year-old has been on the injured list seven times in his eight-year career, so there's also the possibility the Giants have found something that concerns them. If the deal goes through, Correa will push long-time shortstop Brandon Crawford to either second or third base.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets signed outfielder Abraham Almonte, right-handers Tommy Hunter and Jimmy Yacabonis and infielder Jose Peraza to minor-league deals on Friday that include invitations to major-league spring training. Right-hander Sean Reid-Foley was also signed to a minor-league deal. Almonte opened the 2022 season with the Milwaukee Brewers and was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox. The 33-year-old Dominican only played in 15 major-league games for the Red Sox, going 9-for-35 with a homer, two RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base. Almonte will be organizational outfield depth for the Mets. He has a career .235/.302/.374 slash line with a .676 OPS, 24 home runs and 118 RBI in 455 games over 10 big-league seasons.
Friday, December 16
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and free-agent catcher Omar Narvaez agreed to a one-year deal worth $8 million on Thursday that includes a $7 million player option for the 2024 season. Narvaez comes to Queens after serving as the Milwaukee Brewers' primary catcher over the last three years. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2021, but he took a big step back in 2022 by slashing just .206/.292/.305 with four home runs, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored in 296 plate appearances and 84 games played. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter will join a Mets roster that already includes backstops Francisco Alvarez (a top prospect), James McCann and Tomas Nido. Alvarez is eventually expected to become the primary catcher, so playing time might be hard to come by for Narvaez in his new digs.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets agreed to re-sign outfielder Brandon Nimmo to an eight-year, $162 million deal on Thursday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The Mets keep their on-base machine of a center fielder, and the biggest payroll in baseball only gets bigger. The former first-rounder will remain the team's leadoff man with a career .385 on-base percentage in his seven major-league seasons with the Mets. Nimmo doesn't have a ton of pop (career-high 17 home runs in 2018), but he's an excellent table-setter and is a great target in OBP and runs scored in fantasy. In a career-high 151 games in 2022, the 29-year-old hit .274/.367/.433 with an .800 OPS, 16 homers, a league-high seven triples, 64 RBI, 102 runs scored and three stolen bases.
The New York Mets agreed with relief pitcher David Robertson on a one-year, $10 million deal on Thursday, according to a source familiar with the contract. The Met got significantly better on Thursday evening, also re-signing center fielder Brandon Nimmo to a monster eight-year, $162 million deal. The 2022 season with the Philadelphia Phillies was his first full year since having Tommy John surgery in 2021. The 37-year-old veteran reliever with 157 career saves had a combined 2.40 ERA (3.58 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP, 20 saves and 81 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings for the Phillies and Chicago Cubs. Edwin Diaz is cemented in the Mets' closer role, but Robertson will be a strong setup option with plenty of high-leverage experience. He will have plenty of value in holds leagues.
Wednesday, December 07
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and left-hander Jose Quintana agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Jacob deGrom left the Mets for a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers, but New York has moved quickly to replace him with American League Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and Quintana. The 33-year-old southpaw turned heads in 2022, recording a 2.93 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 137 strikeouts and 47 walks in 165 2/3 innings over 32 starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals. He was even better in 12 starts with St. Louis with a 2.01 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Quintana isn't much of a strikeout artist for fantasy purposes, but he should be serviceable as the team's No. 3 starter behind Verlander and Max Scherzer.
The New York Mets have reportedly acquired relief pitcher Brooks Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, according to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman. Heyman tweeted on Wednesday: "Mets acquire Brooks Raley from the Rays for Keyshawn Askew." Raley made 60 appearances for the Rays last season, logging 53 2/3 innings and posting a 2.68 ERA and a 2.74 FIP. He also turned in six saves, six holds and a win while striking out 61 batters and walking just 15 hitters. He'll give the Mets another late-inning, high-leverage option in manager Buck Showalter's bullpen.
Tuesday, December 06
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz was named the 2022 recipient of the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award on Tuesday. Diaz won the American League version of the away back in 2018 with the Seattle Mariners, and he joins Craig Kimbrel as the only players to win the award in each league. The hard-throwing right-hander had a ridiculous 118 strikeouts in just 62 innings last season, resulting in an average of 17.1 strikeouts per nine innings. It's the highest single-season rate by any pitcher in major-league history with at least 60 innings pitched. The Mets should be one of the better teams in baseball again in 2023, making Diaz an elite fantasy closer.
Monday, December 05
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets signed right-hander Justin Verlander on Monday to a two-year, $86 million deal. The deal includes a vesting option for a third year at $35 million. Verlander will make $43.3 million per year and will also have a full no-trade clause in his move to the National League. His 2025 option vests as a player option if he pitches 140 innings in 2024. The Mets lost Jacob deGrom to the Texas Rangers in free agency and replace him with the 2022 American League Cy Young winner. Verlander will turn 40 in February, but even after missing all of 2021 after having Tommy John surgery, he seemed to be better than ever and finished 2022 by going 18-4 with a league-best 1.75 ERA (2.49 FIP), a league-best 0.83 WHIP, 185 strikeouts and 29 walks in 175 innings over 28 starts for the Houston Astros. Despite his age, he'll be a highly coveted fantasy ace in 2023.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets signed right-hander Denyi Reyes to a minor-league deal this week. The deal includes a non-roster invite to spring training next year. The 26-year-old Dominican spent the 2022 season in the Baltimore Orioles organization, going 1-7 with a rough 6.60 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, one save, 61 strikeouts and nine walks in 60 innings pitched over 17 appearances (12 starts) for Single-A Delmarva, High-A Aberdeen and Triple-A Norfolk. Reyes also ended up making his major-league debut for the Orioles last season, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three in 7 2/3 frames over three outings (one start).
Saturday, November 19
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets have struck a deal with the Miami Marlins for two right-handed pitchers, Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham, just days after each was designated for assignment. The Marlins receive minor league pitcher Franklin Sanchez in return. Hernandez is the more prominent name of the two, as he made 90 appearances including 48 starts over five seasons in Miami, recording a 5.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 277 strikeouts in 287 1/3 innings. Both will serve as depth for the Mets, who have seen most of their pitching staff enter free agency.
Tuesday, November 15
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets have claimed pitcher Stephen Ridings off waivers from the New York Yankees, the Mets announced in a tweet on Tuesday. Ridings, a 27-year-old right-hander, last appeared in the Majors during the 2021 campaign, allowing four hits, two walks, and an earned run in five innings while striking out seven batters. He'll provide the Mets with some depth on the 40-man roster heading into spring training and the 2023 regular season. As of now, New York's current bullpen options include the likes of Jose Butto, John Curtiss, Yoan Lopez, Bryce Montes De Oca, Stephen Nogosek, Taylor Saucedo, Drew Smith, and closer Edwin Diaz among others.
Thursday, November 10
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets are picking up starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco's $14 million option for the 2023 season, according to general manager Billy Eppler. The Mets need all the starting pitching help they can with Jacob deGrom, Chris Bassitt and Taijuan Walker all hitting free agency this offseason. Carrasco, 35, finished his second full season in New York by going 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA (3.53 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP and a 152:41 K:BB in 152 innings pitched over his 29 starts. As of right now, Carrasco and Max Scherzer headline the Mets' starting rotation, and it remains to be seen if the Mets will be able to bring back perennial Cy Young candidate deGrom into the fold.
Monday, November 07
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets and closer Edwin Diaz agreed to a five-year, $102 million deal on Sunday, pending a physical. His $102 million deal is a new record for a relief pitcher, beating Aroldis Chapman's $86 million deal with the New York Yankees. Diaz will receive a $12 million signing bonus and an opt-out clause after three years of the deal. The contract also includes a full no-trade clause through the opt-out year. The 28-year-old hard-throwing right-hander is deserving of the deal, as he was one of the most dominant relief pitchers in 2022, posting a career-low 1.31 ERA (0.90 FIP), a 0.84 WHIP, 32 saves and 118 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched. On a Mets team that should be very good again in 2023, Diaz will be a high-end fantasy closer in 2023 yet again.
The New York Mets are planning to pick up first baseman Daniel Vogelbach's $1.5 million team option for the 2023 season, as expected. Vogelbach began the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates but spent the second half with the Mets after being traded, hitting .255/.393/.436 with an .830 OPS, six home runs, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored in 183 plate appearances. Overall in 130 games this year, the 29-year-old left-handed slugger slashed .238/.360/.433 with 18 long balls, 59 RBI and 47 runs scored. Vogelbach won't be a regular starter at first base with Pete Alonso the regular there, but he'll be a power bat off the bench for the Mets and an option for the designated hitter spot against right-handed pitching.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (core) underwent surgery on Tuesday to fix a core muscle injury "sustained in the second half of the season," according to the team. Marte is expected to be "without restriction" in spring training next year. He's expected to be recovered in around eight weeks and can then begin his offseason preparations for next year. The 34-year-old also fractured a finger in early September, and although he made it back for the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres, he was still visibly in pain when swinging the bat. Marte made his second career All-Star squad in his first year in the Big Apple in 2022 by slashing a strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 regular season games.
Friday, October 07
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) is on the team's Wild-Card Series roster against the San Diego Padres this weekend. The Mets have also included rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez and outfielder/first baseman Darin Ruf (neck), while third baseman Mark Vientos was left off the roster. The 33-year-old Marte has been out for a month due to a fractured middle finger on his right hand, so it remains to be seen how much he'll actually play for the Mets in this series. Marte would be a huge boost for the offense if he's fully healthy, as he slashed a strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 466 at-bats before his injury last month.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) is set to return to the Mets lineup for Game 1 of their series against the San Diego Padres. Marte is batting sixth and playing right field for New York. The 33-year-old has been dealing with a fractured finger that held him out for a month. This is obviously a massive boost for the Mets, as a fully healthy Marte bolsters their offensive firepower. The dynamic outfielder posted a .292/.347/.468 slash line while adding 76 runs, 63 RBI, 16 homers and 18 steals over 466 at-bats.
Thursday, October 06
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder and first baseman Darin Ruf (neck) could return this weekend for the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres. He had been sidelined for about a week with a neck strain. Ruf "is an option for this weekend," said Mets manager Buck Showalter. The 36-year-old slashed .204/.307/.338 with 11 home runs, 45 RBI, 52 runs and two stolen bases across 388 plate appearances in 2022 with the Giants and Mets. If he's added to the playoff roster, Ruf could be an option for the Mets this weekend.
New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list for an undisclosed reason Wednesday. The 27-year-old was placed on the IL for undisclosed reasons; he may be on the COVID-19 injured list. He will have to clear the league's protocols ahead of the upcoming NL Wild Card Series Game 1, which starts on Friday. Megill owners a 5.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and a 51:13 K: BB across 47 1/3 innings in 2022. Mychal Givens was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move.
Wednesday, October 05
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter isn't ruling out outfielder Starling Marte (finger) for the wild-card playoff series against the San Diego Padres this weekend. "I'll never say never," Showalter said. Marte will attempt more baseball activities on Wednesday, which will give the team a better idea of his availability for the first series of the postseason. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder has been out since Sept. 6, so even if he's somehow able to make the club's wild-card series roster, it remains to be seen if he'll actually crack the starting lineup, especially with Brandon Nimmo playing really well in center field to close out the regular season. But the Mets certainly would love to have Marte available for the playoffs after he hit .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 homers, 63 RBI, 76 runs and 18 steals in 466 at-bats in 2022.
Tuesday, October 04
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter said that right-hander Jacob deGrom (finger) will be available to pitch in Game 162 of the regular season on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals if it matters in the standings for the American League East. "He's available to pitch tomorrow and potentially could. It's one of the many options," Showalter said. A blister forced the 34-year-old from his start early last Friday against the Atlanta Braves, but it's not a serious issue and won't keep him from starting either Wednesday or for the start of a wild-card or NL Division Series to begin the playoffs. Injuries have limited deGrom to just 11 starts this year, but he's been his usual strong self with a 3.08 ERA (2.13 FIP), a 0.75 WHIP and 102 strikeouts to just eight walks in 64 1/3 innings in those starts.
Monday, October 03
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) still has no clear timetable for a return, and it could be probable that he will miss the final three games of the regular season this week and attempt to rejoin the team for the playoffs. Marte had a CT scan on Sept. 25 that "showed improved healing" in his finger, but his finger remained immobilized in a splint three days later. Manager Buck Showalter said on Oct. 1 that some of Marte's soreness has subsided, but not enough for him to grip a bat or ball yet. With the Mets now looking likely to play in the wild-card round that begins on Friday, Oct. 7, Marte might not even be ready for that weekend series. The 33-year-old veteran last played for the Mets on Sept. 6.
New York Mets right-hander Tommy Hunter (back) is eligible to return from the injured list on the final day of the regular season, but it's unlikely the Mets would activate him for a single game. Instead, he'll receive regular treatment on his back and stay in shape in case the Mets want him for their playoff roster. Hunter pitched in a simulated game before the team's Oct. 1 game against the Atlanta Braves, throwing one inning against members of the team's taxi squad. The 36-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues since Sept. 14, but he was effective during the regular season in just 22 1/3 innings pitched, posting a 2.42 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in his 18 relief appearances.
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) has been cleared for baseball activities and has been hitting flips. He's scheduled to progress to hitting off a machine soon, and this Thursday marks five weeks since his right thumb surgery to fix a torn UCL. The 22-year-old will not be able to make it back for the final three games of the regular season, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to rejoin the team for their postseason run. He had played in just 11 major-league games before his injury, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. Veteran Eduardo Escobar has been manning the hot corner for the Mets with Baty injured, but Baty could be a nice power option for the Mets in the playoffs if he can avoid any setbacks.
New York Mets manager Buck Showalter said that outfielder Starling Marte (finger) won't return before Friday, which is the start of the wild-card series. "A little progress but not enough to think something is imminent," Showalter said. Newsday's Laura Albanese reports that Marte swung off a tee with both hands today, according to a team spokesman. "I don't think that got a real good return," Showalter said. Marte's current focus is pain/swelling management, and it still remains to be seen if he'll even be able to play in what will likely be the wild-card series for the Mets this weekend. Brandon Nimmo will continue to start in center field and serve as the team's leadoff hitter with Marte sidelined.
Sunday, October 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (finger) isn't concerned about a blister that forced an early exit in Friday's start against the Atlanta Braves. "This will be fine," said deGrom. The 34-year-old is scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Washington Nationals but could miss this start if there is no playoff seeding on the line. deGrom owns a 6.00 ERA with a 39:4 K: BB over his last four starts. Overall, the right-hander is 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 102 strikeouts across 64 1/3 innings. It is unclear if deGrom will make Wednesday's start, and fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status early next week.
Friday, September 30
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets are calling up top catching prospect Francisco Alvarez ahead of their weekend series versus the Braves, which starts Friday. The report is that he would receive at-bats as the designated hitter against left-handers as a tune-up before the team enters the postseason. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the top hitting prospects in all of baseball, and he slashed .260/.374/.511 with 27 homers in 112 games split between Double-A and Triple-A this season. It will be intriguing to see if Alvarez will get the nod Friday night with lefty Max Fried on the bump in a pivotal series in Atlanta, but it's too late for him to make any sort of impact in redraft leagues.
Wednesday, September 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte's fractured right middle finger remains immobilized and in a splint, and the Mets are still waiting for the swelling and discomfort to subside. Skipper Buck Showalter said, "not really," when asked if there was a target date for Marte's return. The 33-year-old veteran has been on the injured list for three weeks and is looking unlikely to return for fantasy managers before the end of the regular season. At this point, they're probably just trying to get ready for their postseason run. It's been a tough break for fantasy managers, as Marte had been providing numbers across the board with a .292/.347/.468 slash line, an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs and 18 stolen bases in 466 at-bats for the Mets.
Monday, September 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) underwent a CT scan Sunday, which showed improved healing in the non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger. He will continue baseball activities as "tolerated." The CT scan brought positive news, and Marte hopes to rejoin the team sometime this weekend. Marte will need to ramp up his baseball activities to improve his chances of being activated from the injured list. The 33-year-old is slashing .292/.347/.468 with 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored, and 18 stolen bases in 466 at-bats in 2022. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Marte in all league formats.
Saturday, September 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (quadriceps) is back in center field and batting leadoff on Friday against the Oakland Athletics and left-hander Cole Irvin. Nimmo won't end up missing much time after he left the game early on Wednesday with left quadriceps tightness, and he's back in the starting lineup after Thursday's off day. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter should be returned to starting lineups in single-year formats on Friday. Against lefty pitchers, Nimmo has been solid, hitting .262 (49-for-187) with five of his 14 home runs against them. In the month of September, he's gone 18-for-72 (.250) with two home runs, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases in 20 games played.

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (quad) will undergo an MRI on Thursday. The left-handed outfielder was pulled from Wednesday's game due to a quad issue. The team took Nimmo out of the game in the first inning as a precaution. The Mets are downplaying the severity of the injury, but want to get an MRI done as a precaution. Fantasy managers should get more information after the results come back after Thursday's exam.

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) hopes to attempt to hit and throw again as early as Wednesday, and he's optimistic that he can return at least in time for the team's big three-game series against the Atlanta Braves next weekend. Marte is recovering from a fractured right middle finger. He tried to do baseball activities last week, but his finger was still too sore. The Mets would love to get the 33-year-old veteran back as they attempt to lock up the National League East division heading into the postseason. Marte had been productive across the board in his first season with the Mets before his injury, hitting .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 466 at-bats.
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (quadriceps) left the game early on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers with left quadriceps tightness. Nimmo went 1-for-1 and stole a base in the first inning before leaving the game, so perhaps he injured his leg on his stolen base. Until we know more on the severity of his injury, consider him day-to-day. The 29-year-old entered the day with a .263/.359/.417 slash line, 14 home runs, a league-leading seven triples, 56 RBI, 93 runs scored and two stolen bases in 633 plate appearances and 141 games. The Mets surely don't want to lose their regular leadoff hitter and center fielder as they attempt to win the National League East division in the final two weeks of the regular season.
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (quadriceps) said he thinks he caught his quadriceps injury on Wednesday early enough to avoid a major issue. Nimmo is hopeful that he won't need to miss much time, if any. The 29-year-old singled and a stole a base in the first inning on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers before being pulled with left quadriceps tightness. With a scheduled off day on Thursday, he could return on Friday for the start of a series against the Oakland Athletics. Nimmo has been strong for the Mets and his fantasy managers in 2022, hitting .263/.359/.417 with 14 round-trippers, 56 RBI, 93 runs scored and two stolen bases in his 544 at-bats.

The New York Mets activated right-hander Max Scherzer (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Monday. The Mets also activated right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) from the injured list and optioned right-hander Stephen Nogosek and left-hander Alex Claudio to Triple-A Syracuse in corresponding moves. Scherzer is starting on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 38-year-old ace struck out seven in just 3 2/3 innings in his minor league rehab start for Syracuse last Wednesday, but he threw only 59 pitches, so he could be slightly limited from a pitch-count perspective in his return to New York's rotation on Monday. However, it's still hard to recommend benching the three-time Cy Young winner in fantasy.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, according to the team. The three-time Cy Young winner missed his last scheduled start due to discomfort in his left oblique after being sidelined more than a month earlier this year with a left oblique injury. Barring any setbacks in his outing on Wednesday, the 38-year-old right-hander should return to the Mets starting rotation next week. When healthy, Scherzer continues to be lights-out, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA in 20 starts in his first season with the Mets in 2022. When he returns next week, he'll be a must-start for fantasy managers, likely against the Milwaukee Brewers.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will either throw a simulated game at Citi Field on Wednesday or make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse. In either scenario, the Mets plan to activate him from the injured list as soon as he's eligible on Sept. 19. "That's the hope," said skipper Buck Showalter. Scherzer was placed on the injured list last week with left oblique soreness, but it looks like he's doing well and is ready to finish the 2022 regular season in New York's rotation. The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer continues to be a must-start for fantasy managers every time he toes the rubber. He's gone 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.54 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and only 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts in his first year in the Big Apple.
Saturday, September 10
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw a scoreless inning and didn't allow a hit while striking out one and walking none in his latest minor league rehab outing on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse. Megill hasn't allowed a single run in four relief innings on his rehab assignment, striking out eight in the process. When the Mets deem that he's ready to return from the injured list, he'll return in a relief role to close out the regular season. As a result, he can be left to the waiver wire to close out the 2022 campaign. Before his injury, the 27-year-old was 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA (3.60 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 47 strikeouts and 11 walks in 41 1/3 innings over nine starts in his second major league season.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) never attempted baseball activities before Friday's game, according to skipper Buck Showalter. Marte will try again on Saturday, with an injured list stint still a strong possibility. The 33-year-old veteran suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger after he was hit by a pitch on Tuesday, and the Mets initially listed him as day-to-day. If he can't get going this weekend, it seems likely they'll put him on the injured list to let him heal further. While time is running out for fantasy managers, Marte needs to remain stashed everywhere. He's currently hitting .292 with 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. The left-handed hitting Tyler Naquin has started in right field for the Mets since Marte suffered the injury on Tuesday.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a partial non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger. It is unfortunate timing for the 33-year-old, who will miss at least the next week after landing on the IL. Fantasy managers will miss his .292/.347/.468 slash line, 16 homers, and 18 swipes while he's gone. He still should be held onto wherever possible, but in some cases he can be dropped if the roster spot is needed in order to win a playoff matchup. In a corresponding move, corner infielder Mark Vientos was recalled from Triple-A.
New York Mets corner infield prospect Mark Vientos was called up to the big leagues on Saturday. The Mets' number seven ranked prospect (according to MLB Pipeline) enjoyed a solid season with Triple-A Syracuse, slashing .280/.358/.519 with 24 homers in 427 plate appearances. He does strike out a fair amount, and he won't contribute any steals, but he is certainly a hitter to watch for the rest of the season. He shouldn't be added yet outside of very deep leagues, especially considering he might not play every day.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets right-hander Taijuan Walker (finger) will start Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. He dealt with a blister on his right index finger in his last start Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 30-year-old owns a 10-4 record, a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 96:40 K:BB across 127 2/3 innings in 2022. The right-hander won't miss a turn in the rotation and will start Sunday's game. Fantasy managers can use Walker as a streamer in all league formats, but he has allowed 11 earned runs over his last five appearances.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Surprisingly, Marte wasn't placed on the injured list after suffering a partial non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger, but he'll miss his third straight game. For now, he'll continue to be listed as day-to-day, but it remains to be seen when he'll have a chance to play again. Tyler Naquin is getting another start in right field and is hitting fifth on Friday against Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera. Naquin will be a low-cost DFS sleeper play on Friday. He's hitting .267 (55-for-206) with nine of his 11 home runs this season against right-handed pitching.

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) sustained a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger and is considered day-to-day. The 33-year-old sat out both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was removed from Tuesday's contest against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the right hand. The veteran appears to have avoided a significant injury, but it's unclear if the finger issue will require a trip to the injured list. Marte's next chance to return will be Friday against the Miami Marlins. Stay tuned.
Wednesday, September 07
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marte was hit by a pitch on his right hand on Tuesday and is undergoing tests, but skipper Buck Showalter said, "so far, so good." It appears that the 33-year-old has avoided any structural damage to his hand, but don't be surprised if he misses both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday. For now, fantasy managers should consider Marte to be day-to-day. With Marte sidelined, Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pirates right-hander Duane Underwood Jr. Naquin has been much better against righties in 2022 and has 10 home runs in 84 games while hitting .240 on the year. He'll be a deep DFS sleeper on Wednesday.
New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) is going on the 15-day injured list and won't make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Scherzer had to be pulled early from his last start on Saturday with what manager Buck Showalter called fatigue in his left side. The good news is that Scherzer isn't very concerned and expects to be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Lefty David Peterson is likely to re-enter the rotation with Scherzer temporarily sidelined. The 38-year-old Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in New York, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) left the stadium on Wednesday to undergo further testing on his right hand after he was hit by a pitch on Tuesday. The Mets want a more clear picture that initial images didn't provide, but he will miss another contest in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "We're waiting with bated breath that things come back clean," manager Buck Showalter said. Fantasy managers should consider the 33-year-old veteran to be day-to-day for now, but prepare for the worst just in case. Marte made the All-Star team for the second time in his career this year, and he's slashing a very strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 games. The Mets and fantasy managers are crossing their fingers that they'll have Marte to close out the season.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
The New York Mets are still in the process of deciding whether starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins or get pushed back a start. Scherzer left his previous outing early with oblique fatigue. The Mets don't want to push the 38-year-old right-hander and cause him to miss the final stretch of the regular season, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if he skips a start this week. As usual, Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in Queens, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and only 23 walks in 127 2/3 frames over his 20 starts in 2022. We'll probably know for sure whether he'll make his start on Friday by Wednesday.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) has been removed from Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 33-year-old was hit by a pitch in the right hand during the first inning. Marte did stay in the game, but ultimately came out in the bottom of the second inning. Tyler Naquin replaced Marte in the outfield and could see more playing time, assuming Marte does miss time. The expectation is that Marte is going to need X-rays on his hand. Fantasy managers should get an update on Marte after the contest.

New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer was removed from Saturday's start after just 67 pitches in Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals. He allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five across five innings. The 38-year-old was "feeling fatigued on his left side" and removed from Saturday's start for precautionary reasons. He is considered day-to-day and questionable for his next start Friday against the Miami Marlins. Scherzer owns a 2.26 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 153:23 K: BB across 127 2/3 innings in 2022.
Friday, September 02
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) will return from the injured list to start Sunday against the Washington Nationals. He threw a bullpen session and simulated game last week but will return to action without a rehab outing. The 35-year-old could be on a pitch count in his first start back. He owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 124:33 K: BB across 126 1/3 innings in 2022. The veteran right-hander is expected to replace David Peterson in the starting rotation. Fantasy managers can stream Carrasco in most league formats in a plus matchup against the Nationals on Sunday.
New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) struck out the side after entering in relief during a rehab outing with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday. With Carlos Carrasco (oblique) expected to return to the rotation on Sunday, Megill is expected to pitch out of the bullpen when he rejoins the Mets. The 27-year-old had been sidelined since mid-June with a strained right shoulder. Megill owns a 5.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts across 41 1/3 innings in 2022. The right-hander could be used in high-leverage situations and provide the Mets another arm out of the bullpen this season.

TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets catching prospect Francisco Alvarez (ankle), the top prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline, has been diagnosed with a loose body in his right ankle, according to the team. The tentative plan is for Alvarez to resume baseball activities in three to four days. His return to play will be determined by his response to an injection and baseball activities. The good news is that it looks like he'll avoid surgery, at least for now. The 20-year-old hasn't played at Triple-A Syracuse since Aug. 23, but there's still a chance he can return for Syracuse before the end of the season. Fantasy managers in single-year leagues can pretty much abandon hope that he'll contribute down the stretch in the majors, especially since he's hit just .180 (20-for-111) with six homers and 21 RBI in 32 games for Syracuse since his promotion.
Wednesday, August 31
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) was unavailable to pinch hit in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers due to a minor thumb injury he sustained over the weekend, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The injury also explains his absence from the starting lineup, but it sounds as though he is merely day-to-day. The 22-year-old prospect has gotten off to a slow start since his call-up, slashing .184/.244/.342 with two home runs and five RBI in 42 plate appearances. He may not offer a ton of fantasy value right now in redraft leagues, but he is still worth plenty of attention down the stretch for fantasy managers in dynasty leagues.
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Baty also missed Tuesday's contest with a thumb injury. Fantasy managers should consider the 22-year-old day-to-day for now. The left-handed slugger has gotten off to a slow start in his first 11 major league contests, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two homers, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts, but he'll continue to be relevant in deep mixed leagues the rest of the way, as long as he continues to play regularly. Eduardo Escobar is starting at the hot corner and batting eighth against Dodgers left-hander Tyler Anderson. Escobar will be a deep DFS sleeper. He's hitting .242 (31-for-128) with six of his 12 home runs this year against lefties.
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is dealing with a UCL tear in his right thumb and will undergo surgery on Thursday that will likely end most, if not all, of the rest of his 2022 season. It's a tough break for the Mets and the 22-year-old after he was recently called up to the big leagues for the first time. He struggled at the plate in his first 11 games, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts. Baty was the team's No. 2 prospect this year, per MLB Pipeline, and he has a bright future ahead of him in Queens. Eduardo Escobar should see the majority of playing time at the hot corner for the Mets with Baty out of the picture, at least until Luis Guillorme returns from a left groin strain.
Tuesday, August 30
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) could return by the end of the week. The right-hander was able to throw a 55-pitch simulated game without any issues on Monday. That being said, it sounds like the Mets are going to allow Carrasco to skip a minor league rehab assignment. The right-hander has been sidelined since August 15 due to a left oblique strain. He was expected to miss roughly a month, but should return much sooner than that. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more information this week.
Sunday, August 28
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) will throw a simulated game Monday. He had been sidelined since August 16 with a low-grade left oblique strain. Barring any setbacks with Monday's simulated game, the Mets right-hander is expected to begin a rehab assignment shortly after. He owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 124:33 K: BB across 126 1/3 innings in 2022. The 35-year-old threw a bullpen session earlier in the week and is on track to join the Mets rotation sometime next week. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot should continue to stash Carrasco in all league formats.
Saturday, August 27
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar (oblique) has been activated off the IL and will start at third and bat eighth against Kyle Freeland and the Colorado Rockies. Escobar missed just over a week after suffering a left oblique strain. The 33-year-old veteran has struggled this year, but has managed a .250/.286/.500 slash line against lefties, making him an intriguing option in DFS. It is likely that he will form a platoon with rookie Brett Baty, limiting both of their fantasy upsides. Yolmer Sanchez was sent to Triple-A to make room for Escobar.
Friday, August 26
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) is on track to rejoin the team's starting rotation next weekend. Carrasco felt much better after throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday after he landed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique last week. Oblique injuries typically require a longer recovery period, but the 35-year-old right-hander doesn't appear to be dealing with a serious strain. He will throw another bullpen session on Friday, but it's unclear if he'll make any minor league rehab starts before rejoining the Mets. It's good news for fantasy managers, although he'll be a bit more risky in his first start back, especially if he doesn't make a rehab start. Carrasco is 13-5 for the Mets in 2022 with a 3.92 ERA (3.65 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP and a 124:33 K:BB in 126 1/3 innings over 23 starts.
Wednesday, August 24
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (oblique) said he felt "much, much better" after throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday. He's now scheduled to throw another bullpen on Friday. Carrasco was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique last week, but he appears to be making good progress. He was initially expected to miss three to four weeks, so it remains to be seen if he'll be sent on a minor league rehab assignment after he completes a couple bullpen sessions. Before landing on the injured list, the 35-year-old veteran right-hander had gone 13-5 with a 3.92 ERA (3.65 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP and a 124:33 K:BB in 126 1/3 innings over 23 starts in his second year with the Mets.
Monday, August 22
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets manager Buck Showalter said that starting pitcher Taijuan Walker (back) will start on Tuesday against the New York Yankees. Walker wasn't able to make his scheduled start on Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies after he was forced from his previous start early last Tuesday with back spasms, but he'll instead return this week in a tough matchup against the Bronx Bombers. With Walker returning, the Yankees will avoid facing right-hander Jacob deGrom in this series. Walker has gone 10-3 with a 3.36 ERA (3.67 FIP), 1.20 WHIP, 85 strikeouts and 33 walks in 112 1/3 innings over his 21 starts for the Mets, but he'll be extra risky this week against the Yanks. In three starts this month, the 30-year-old has allowed 10 earned runs on 13 hits in just nine innings.
Sunday, August 21
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets pitcher Jose Butto will start Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He is the Mets' 15th-ranked prospect and was recently promoted to Triple-A Syracuse after spending most of this season in Double-A Binghamton. The 24-year-old posted a 4.00 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 108.35 K: BB across 92 1/3 innings in 2022. Butto's turn in the rotation could be short as the team might send him back to Triple-A after Sunday's start. Butto can be used as a streamer in deep-league formats but is mainly a stash in dynasty league formats for now.
Saturday, August 20
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson has been called up as the 27th man on Saturday for the team's doubleheader against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. Peterson will make the start in Game 2. The 26-year-old southpaw has been solid in 18 appearances for New York this year, going 6-2 with a 3.30 ERA (4.01 FIP), a 1.28 WHIP and a 91:38 K:BB in 79 innings pitched. Fourteen of his 18 outings have been starts for the Mets, with his last spot start coming on Aug. 6 against the Atlanta Braves when he allowed no earned runs on three hits while walking three and fanning five in 5 1/3 frames. Peterson isn't a bad fantasy streamer on Saturday.
New York Mets starting pitcher Taijuan Walker (back) will not make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, but he's "doing well," according to skipper Buck Showalter. Walker will avoid a trip to the injured list for now. The Mets were optimistic earlier this week that the 30-year-old right-hander would be able to make his start on Sunday after leaving his last start on Tuesday early with back spasms. An MRI exam on Wednesday showed no structural damage in his back, so fantasy managers are hoping he'll end up missing just the one start. Walker allowed eight runs in just one innings on Aug. 5 against the Atlanta Braves, but he's given up two earned runs in eight innings since in two other starts in the month. He should remain rostered in all fantasy leagues, although he'll be a bit more shaky his next time out due to the injury.
Thursday, August 18
TEAMPLAYERTRANSACTION
There is increased optimism that New York Mets right-hander Taijuan Walker (back), whose MRI results showed a slight disc bulge in his lower back, can make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. Walker called it "the worst pain I ever felt" and said he's "shocked" he's feeling this good two days later. The 30-year-old left his last start on Tuesday after just two innings, but his MRI exam didn't show any structural damage. It's great news for the Mets that the injury wasn't more serious, but he'll be a pretty risky fantasy play if he makes his next start on Sunday. In 21 starts in 2022, Walker has gone 10-3 with a strong 3.36 ERA (3.66 FIP), 1.20 WHIP, 85 strikeouts and 33 walks in 112 1/3 innings pitched.
